service employees international union

Service Employees International Union

Union previously run by the deeply Obama-linked Andy Stern. Many of their members are illegal aliens and they very strongly support illegal immigration. They certainly have a financial interest in supporting illegal immigration: some portion of the dues they receive are from the wages of illegal aliens, i.e., money that was earned illegally.

Their support for illegal immigration has gone as far as paying someone linked to the Mexican government to organize immigration marches. They paid the base salary for Artemio Arreola - a member of the Mexican government's Institute for Mexicans Abroad advisory council - for six months while he organized immigration marches and the like. (Organizing the new movement)

One of the organizers of May 1 Chicago march. Barack Obama spoke at the May 1 event.

A sponsor of the September 1 Chicago march (organized by Jorge Mujica, an official with Mexico's PRD party).

Member of the We Are America Alliance. One other member group is the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR) headed by Juan Salgado, also a member of the Mexican government's Institute for Mexicans Abroad advisory council. Another member group, Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles (CHIRLA) has allegedly collaborated with the Mexican government.

Representatives appeared at the National Immigrant Rights Strategy Convention.

Jaime Contreras, president of the National Capital Immigrant Coalition is District Chair and Supervisor of SEIU Local 32BJ.

With other unions, member of the Change to Win group.

With CHIRLA and ICIRR, a member of the Coalition for Comprehensive Immigration Reform.

Unions join with bosses in reckless disregard of workers (Chamber of Commerce, SEIU, AFL-CIO, Trumka) - 01/16/13

For years now, unions - caring more about gaining power than helping American workers - have joined with business groups to support massive and illegal immigration. So, while this might be news to some, it's more just a recent, ratcheted-up version of something that's been happening for a while:

NCLR, SEIU, LULAC, NALEO flex their racial power and threaten Congress in new amnesty push - 12/12/12

When is ethnic nationalism and a completely race-based attitude to everything OK? When is the raw pursuit of racial power OK? When is it OK to make borderline threats against Members of Congress? When Hispanics do it, of course. From "Latino Groups Warn Congress to Fix Immigration, or Else" by Julia Preston of the New York Times ( peekURL.com/zxs7JY2 ):

What if Stand Up Florida were smart? (interrupts Marco Rubio at RNC convention; SEIU) - 08/28/12

The video below shows the SEIU-linked group "Stand Up Florida" ("SUF") [1] engaging in dumb behavior during a Marco Rubio speech at the GOP Convention [2]. Five protesters from that group stand up and start shouting assertions, which Rubio deftly handles.

What "Young Invincibles" dare not tell you (youth joblessness, Campaign for Young America, Rory O’Sullivan, Alistair Johnston) - 07/10/12

It's an indisputable fact that hundreds of thousands or millions of illegal aliens are doing jobs that unemployed young people could be doing. So, it's a bit curious that a new report on youth joblessness by the "Young Invincibles" (part of the left-leaning Campaign for Young Americans, "CYA") doesn't mention that. We're talking about hundreds of thousands or millions of potential jobs, yet there's only one brief mention of immigration in their report.

Occupy CPAC is incredibly dumb and might be fake (Occupy Wall Street, OWS) - 02/07/12

The latest plan from the Occupy Wall Street folks is called "Occupy CPAC" (CPAC is the annual "Conservative Political Action Conference"). OccupyCPAC will consist of, per this, "[creating] as much non-violent resistance as possible, and make this a conference the attendees will never forget".

ACLU, SEIU, SPLC, NILC, MALDEF, PRLDEF sue South Carolina over new immigration law - 10/12/11

Just as they have in other states, a coalition of far-left, illegal immigration-supporting groups have sued South Carolina over that state's new Arizona-style immigration law. The groups involved in this case are:

Dozens of pro-illegal immigration groups were invited to Obama's mini-amnesty rollout and you weren't - 08/25/11

On August 18, Barack Obama's Department of Homeland Security announced an administrative amnesty that could cover 300,000 or more illegal aliens.

Ask SPLC to denounce racism involving ACLU's Georgia immigration suit (Workers United, SEIU) - 06/04/11

The Southern Poverty Law Center is one of the groups suing Georgia over that state's new immigration law; see the link for the details. A leader of one of the SPLC's compatriots in the suit has made a racist (and ageist) statement about the suit. Let's try to get the SPLC to denounce his comments, despite the fact that he's on their side.

Mexico-linked groups, ACLU, NILC, SPLC, SEIU sue Georgia over Arizona-style immigration law (+ADL, Mexico join) - 06/03/11

A group of far-left, pro-illegal immigration groups are suing Georgia over that state's new Arizona-style immigration law. And, at least three of the groups have direct links to the Mexican government.

Supreme Court upholds 2007 Arizona immigration enforcement law; eVerify; losing: US Chamber, DOJ, Berman, NCLR, ADL, SPLC, AILA, SEIU, LULAC - 05/26/11

In a major victory for states that want to reduce illegal immigration, the US Supreme Court has upheld Arizona's 2007 "Legal Arizona Workers Act" employer enforcement law that requires the use of eVerify and that allows Arizona to pull the business licenses of companies that knowingly hire illegal aliens. Note that the 2007 law and the decision have no relation to Arizona's more recent immigration law. A Los Angeles Times article is here, and links to legal documents are here. Sonia Sotomayor voted in dissent; see her name's link. Those who opposed Arizona's law in court and who lost today...

Press release: ACLU, NILC, Munger Tolles Olsen suit - 05/03/11

The following is the press release from the American Civil Liberties Union and the National Immigration Law Center about their suit against Utah. Click here for what you can do about the ACLU suing Utah.

ACLU, NILC sue Utah over immigration enforcement bill (HB 497, Cecillia Wang) - 05/03/11

The American Civil Liberties Union and the National Immigration Law Center today filed a suit against Utah over that state's new Arizona-style immigration law House Bill 497. Utah governor Gary Herbert signed that bill at the same time as he signed their guest workers bill. Excerpts from an April 21 article in which ACLU attorney Cecillia Wang telegraphed the suit are at [1]. As for what you can do about this: * Recall that David Koch of the Koch family joined with George Soros to give the ACLU $10 million to fight the Patriot Act. Without Koch's money, the ACLU might not have the resources...

NCLR congratulates SEIU on 90th anniversary (Janet Murguia, Eliseo Medina) - 04/29/11

Janet Murguia of the National Council of La Raza has written a letter to the Service Employees International Union congratulating them on their 90th anniversary. In it she gives a shout-out to their International Secretary Treasurer Eliseo Medina and commends them for their work on comprehensive immigration reform, aka amnesty. (Note: see all those links for background information). She also references how the SEIU "recognized early on that their membership was changing and growing more diverse". In other words, the SEIU realized that all those illegal aliens could be organized to form a...

WSJ and SEIU complain about immigration audits, show no concern for American workers (Miriam Jordan, Harvard Maintenance, Minnesota) - 03/15/11

As an alternative to the showy immigration raids conducted during the George W Bush administration, the Barack Obama administration has been conducting "paper raids" (see this for an example with the downsides noted; the guidelines were discussed here). Needless to say, any form of immigration enforcement doesn't sit well with those who seek to profit or enable others to profit from cheap illegal labor. Thus, Miriam Jordan of the Wall Street Journal offers "Immigration Audit Takes Toll/Janitorial Firm Harvard Maintenance to Lose Over Half of Minnesota Work Force" (link). It features the WSJ...

Is the SEIU campaigning with foreign money and money from illegal aliens? - 10/28/10

The Service Employees International Union might be funneling money from foreign citizens and illegal aliens in the U.S. into U.S. elections. According to this, the SEIU claims to have spent several million dollars more in the 2008 campaign cycle than their political organization - Committee on Political Education ("COPE") - announced as expenditures: In May 2009, the Wall Street Journal reported that SEIU officials bragged they had spent $85 million during the 2008 campaign season, making them the the single biggest contributor to either party in the last election cycle. Yet according to the...

Possible massive voter fraud in Arizona and Colorado (SEIU link) (update: state denies it) - 10/25/10

A group linked to the Service Employees International Union might be involved in massive voter registration fraud in Arizona and Colorado. From Russell Pearce (link): There has been an accusation that 65% of 5000 voter registration forms, submitted by Mi Familia Vota and One Vote Arizona, in Yuma County on the last day of filling are invalid due to the registrant not being a citizen, wrong/invalid address, false signature, etc. I also understand that these 2 groups have signed up 20,000 states wide and they have requested that 45,000 be put on the permanent early ballot. If 65% of these last...

United Food and Commercial Workers Union calls off Arizona boycott - 09/24/10

The United Food and Commercial Workers Union - UFCW - had been part of the movement to boycott Arizona over their new immigration law. They've now withdrawn from that movement (link), with a Local president saying: "I hope Ms. Brewer joins the call to 'tone it down' and help create solutions for both border security and immigration reform... It is now time for calm, reasoned discussion that can move forward to first secure our borders, while designing a workable, humane plan to finally reform our nation’s immigration laws." The "call to 'tone it down'" followed Jan Brewer pointing out that...

SEIU funding lies about Arizona immigration law ("Stops in Arizona", "Travel Advisory Hotline") - 05/28/10

The Service Employees International Union is running web ads for a "Travel Advisory Hotline" (1-800-958-5068). When you call it you're treated to the SEIU lying, misleading, and playing the race card on the new Arizona immigration law. And, when you click the web ad you're taken to action.seiu.org/page/s/travelingtoaz, complete with the (since corrected) text on the attached graphic.

ACLU, SEIU, MALDEF, NAACP, UFCW, NILC sue to block Arizona immigration law (two Mexico links) - 05/17/10

A group of far-left illegal immigration supporters - including the American Civil Liberties Union, a group that's directly collaborating with the Mexican government - filed a suit today to block the Arizona immigration law from going into effect.

SEIU, NCLR release incredibly deceptive immigration poll (Andrea Nill, Arizona) - 05/15/10

The Service Employees International Union and the National Council of La Raza have released a new immigration poll of likely voters in Arizona [1], specifically asking about that state's new law and about

NCLR, LULAC, SEIU, UFCW, etc. launch boycott of Arizona over immigration law (+Al Sharpton) - 05/06/10

A whole host of far-left illegal immigration profiteers today launched an organized boycott of Arizona over that state's new immigration law (nclr.org/content/news/detail/63211). See the last link for our extensive coverage of that law, and see each of the following links for our coverage of the groups. Those participating include:

Craig Becker, now of NLRB, admits SEIU represents illegal aliens, opposes "punitive sanctions" against employers - 03/28/10

Craig Becker - associate general counsel for the Service Employees International Union - was appointed by Barack Obama to serve on the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). Congress blocked the appointment (with the help of a couple of Democrats), so Obama responded by making Becker a recess appointment. That means that he'll serve on the board until the end of 2011. The backstory is discussed here. On the audio available at this or at peekURL.com/vx6516r Becker comments on immigration matters. The audio is from NakedEmperorNews, so approach with some caution [1]. It's also from January 8,...

NumbersUSA harassed at immigration march by far-left, open borders fascists - 03/22/10

Roy Beck of Numbers USA attended yesterday's pro-illegal immigration march, and you can watch the reception he received on the video at peekURL.com/v41a4yc which is also attached right or below. On the video, persons dressed as mimes surrounded him as he attempted to speak to the camera and blew whistles at him in an attempt to shut him up. Not only that, but from their posting about the day's events (link): After threatening Roy, the mimes were ordered by Park Police to remain between 7th and 14th streets. Then they huddled and one ran to Park Police claiming one of Roy's African American...

Xavier Becerra laughs about saying Pledge of Allegiance at RI4A/CHIRLA/SEIU meeting - 02/23/10

The attached video shows Rep. Xavier Becerra and others laughing after it was suggested at a meeting that they say the Pledge of Allegiance. And, this was at a meeting in support of comprehensive immigration reform [1]. The congressman has released a statement; I'll let you determine whether his explanation washes: "On the morning of February 20th, I was invited to address some 500 people gathered to discuss the human tragedy of a broken immigration system and the need to fix it. At some point during that meeting, a political operative for a congressional campaign asked if we could recite the...

March for America: illegal immigration rally, March 21, 2010 Washington DC - 02/12/10

On March 21, 2010, yet another pro-illegal immigration march will be held in Washington DC, this sponsored ultimately by the far-left National Council of Churches [1]. The next day they'll apparently be conducting a lobbying effort, sending attendees to speak to their representatives (presumably illegal aliens will take a pass on that event). The march is associated with Ecumenical Advocacy Days, a mini-convention focusing this year on the topic of "Migration". One of the speakers will be Frank Sharry. More on EAD at advocacydays.org/about, and more on the march as it develops. Other groups...

Groups have "unprecedented amounts of money" to push amnesty; Dobbs leaving was "critical victory" - 01/11/10

The Washington Times article "Pro-immigration groups ready to fight/Take united front to push for reform" from Stephen Dinan (link) includes this quote from Tamar Jacoby: "Especially on the left-of-center side, [groups that will push for amnesty] had unprecedented amounts of money in the past year, and they're organizing the field, coordinating among themselves, they're unrecognizable almost from what they were in 2006 and 2007... The business side hasn't had as much money pumped in and hasn't transformed as much, but it's also at a different level of the game." And this quote from Eliseo...

Read about CIR ASAP: "Comprehensive Immigration Reform for America's Security and Prosperity Act of 2009" (Luis Gutierrez) - 12/11/09

[A DISCUSSION OF SOME OF THE PROVISIONS IS HERE, AND MORE UPDATES ARE BELOW] On Tuesday, December 15, 2009 Rep. Luis Gutierrez will introduce an amnesty bill called the "Comprehensive Immigration Reform for America's Security and Prosperity Act of 2009". His announcement (luisgutierrez.house.gov/PRArticle.aspx?NewsID=1406) provides no details, however: 1. Details on the bill will be provided here when it becomes available; expect it to be a bit on the far-left side and expect it to not go very far, except perhaps if it's watered down. In the latter case it might present a problem. 2. The way...

Fiscal Policy Institute, NY Daily News mislead about benefits of massive immigration - 11/30/09

The Fiscal Policy Institute has released a new report called "Contribution of Immigrant Workers to the Country's 25 Largest Metropolitan Areas"; it was sponsored by the Carnegie Corporation and a Service Employees International Union local and you can get the PDF at fiscalpolicy.org/immigration.html.

Obama state dinner guests incl. Couric, Brian Williams, GE chairman, DreamWorks, NYT and WaPo reporters... - 11/24/09

A full list of those invited to tonight's White House state dinner - the one featuring arugula (no, really) - is here. In addition to a large number of Indian names that I don't recognize, here are some that seem more than a bit interesting:

Toothless Obama admin immigration enforcement: 100s janitors fired, not deported (+how many SEIU members are illegal aliens?) - 11/09/09

In Minneapolis, Minnesota earlier this year, the Department of Homeland Security sent no match letters or a variant to around 1200 janitors employed by the major corporation ABM informing those employees that there was a mismatch between their Social Security numbers and other information. They were required to provide documentation by October, and when all or almost all didn't, ABM fired them; presumably all or virtually all are illegal aliens (link). However, rather than trying to deport them, DHS simply concentrated on the company. Needless to say, that makes it easy for a fired illegal...

The Tides Foundation has announced the recipients of their "Jane Bagley Lehman Awards for Excellence in Public Advocacy"; see the press release here. Each of the three winners will get $7500; one of them is linked to the Mexican government and another's organization allegedly has collaborated with that government:

NILC, ACLU, AILA, NCLR, Schey, hundreds more demand Obama ends 287g program - 08/27/09

Continuing their campaign against the 287g program, the American Civil Liberties Union - a group that is/was directly collaborating with the Mexican government - informs us that they and about 500 other groups have sent a letter to

David Axelrod conflict-of-interest? Getting $2 million from former company that's now pushing Obamacare (PhRMA) - 08/18/09

Obama administration official David Axelrod is due to receive $2 million starting next year from his former company, AKPD Message and Media (he was the sole shareholder and he sold his interest after Obama won). And, per this, AKPD is now receiving "huge fees" "from Healthy Economy Now, a coalition that includes the Washington-based Pharmaceutical Research & Manufacturers of America, known as PhRMA". And, H.E.N. is pushing for healthcare reform. Is that a conflict of interest? Only someone who specializes in these issues can answer that, but FWIW Robert Gibbs, when asked about this, didn'...

George Soros gives $5 million to push Obamacare (HCAN, NCLR, ACORN, SEIU, etc...) - 08/11/09

George Soros has contributed $5 million to the group Health Care For America Now (healthcareforamericanow.org) so that they can push Obamacare. That's dwarfed by the $35 million he's giving to help/"help" children in New York (in partnership with the federal government, [1]). As discussed here, HCAN is considered a bit on the wimpy side by the far-left, such as Jane Hamsher. That's despite HCAN including some true "liberal" stalwarts. Their steering committee includes the following: * ACORN * AFL CIO * American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) * Campaign for...

Weren't violent confrontations at healthcare townhalls part of the plan? - 08/08/09

Recently there's been a series of angry mobs at townhalls designed to promote Obama healthcare (link), and some have devolved into violence. That wasn't difficult to foresee and, while I have no proof, it might have been by design. But, first of all, if I had my way those who oppose the Democrats health care proposals would have followed through on my two-and-a-half year old question authority plan. If they'd done that, instead of angry rants, the flaws in the Democrats' plan - and the inability of those pushing their plan to plan for contingencies - would have become obvious to millions of...

"Reform Immigration For America": business, labor, CAP, NCLR, CHIRLA begin new push; summit, townhall meeting; John Quigley - 06/01/09

A new group called "Reform Immigration For America" recently launched in order to push for comprehensive immigration reform, aka amnesty. They're a coalition of business, labor, and far-left/racial power groups; see their slick site here: reformimmigrationforamerica.org.

Mike Kingsbury /SEIU offers bad economics, bad logic (legalization as a "wage floor") - 05/04/09

Mike Kingsbury of the Service Employees International Union offers the exclamation point-rich blog post "What a week for immigration reform!" (seiu.org/2009/05/what-a-week-for-immigration-reform.php). He's so excited he forgot to think things through, saying this about the recent immigration marches: Why we as citizens don't do this more often, I don't know. I do know that putting a floor under the most vulnerable workers in this country will help maintain a standard of living for all of us. And this year's May Day theme emphasizing America's immigrant history - immigrant roots, immigrant...

4/30/09: Chuck Schumer holding immigration "reform" hearing (Alan Greenspan, Joel Hunter, Doris Meissner) - 04/28/09

On April 30, Chuck Schumer and the Senate Judiciary Committee/Subcommittee on Immigration, Border Security and Citizenship will be holding a hearing called "Comprehensive Immigration Reform in 2009, Can We Do It and How?" (judiciary.senate.gov/hearings/hearing.cfm?id=3793) It would be a tough debate about the issue if not for the fact that all five witnesses are on the same basic side: * Alan Greenspan

College Board comes out for anti-American DREAM Act, depriving U.S. citizens of college educations (Gaston Caperton, Thomas Rudin, Roberto Gonzales) - 04/21/09

The College Board - the group of over 5600 educational institutions that administers the SAT - has released a report advocating for the anti-American DREAM Act; that would let the illegal aliens covered under the bill take college educations away from U.S. citizens. See that link for the details and a question you're urged to ask those politicians who support the bill in order to discredit them. No matter how they want to evade the truth, the bottom line is that what the College Board supports would cause some U.S. citizens to not be able to go to college. The report was authored by Roberto...
