"National Council for a New America": new GOP, same old amnesty? (Jeb, McCain, Romney) - 04/29/09

On Thursday, a group of putatively moderate Republicans will announce a new effort called "National Council for a New America". While they claim that they're non-partisan, it's clearly a GOP effort. And, the list of those involved that CNN has obtained (link) includes several supporters of comprehensive immigration reform.

April, 2009: Mitt Romney now wants immigration "reform" - 04/05/09

Last year, it was difficult to tell where Mitt Romney stood on immigration matters because he crafted his various statements in an ambiguous fashion and - of course - neither MSM journalists nor citizen journalists tried to find out exactly what he supported. Now, he's let us know where he stands (for now at least). From this: Romney believes that one way to attract more minorities to the GOP is to pass immigration reform before the next election, saying the issue becomes demagogued by both parties on the campaign trail. "We have a natural affinity with Hispanic-American voters, Asian-...

Mitt Romney joins Marriott International (hotels) board; NYT misleads to support illegal activity - 01/08/09

Mitt Romney has joined the board of Marriott International of hotels fame. Their chairman Bill Marriott is a strong supporter of comprehensive immigration reform, and, due to media corruption, Romney's exact position on that was never cleared up however he was generally against some forms of amnesty. The New York Times editorial board takes note of this in "Mitt Romney in the Amnesty Hotel" (link): Mr. Romney distinguished himself in the Republican primaries for the vapidity and hypocrisy of his stance on immigration. He proudly professed a rigid hostility to comprehensive immigration reform...

Dueling sockpuppets: were some anti-Palin, anti-McCain comments from the Romney campaign? - 11/05/08

Barack Obama's chief strategist David Axelrod owns an astroturfing company. And, during the campaign the comments at many major sites (WaPo, Politico, Digg, etc.) were chock full of sockpuppets posting lame jokes, comments insulting McCain and/or Palin, and comments extolling the virtues of The One. Could those two things have something to do with each other?

Henry Fernandez lies about Jim Oberweis to support illegal immigration (libel?) - 03/10/08

Henry Fernandez - a Senior Fellow at the Center For American Progress Action Fund who's also part of the Mexican government's "extended network" - offers "Anti-Immigrant Zealots Lose Hastert's Seat For Conservatives" (thinkprogress.org/2008/03/10/oberweis-immigration) about the recent Illinois House race in which Jim Oberweis lost to Bill Foster. The article contains this paragraph that strongly appears to libel both Oberweis and Mitt Romney: Oberweis, a wealthy owner of dairy stores, was targeted by grassroots supporters of comprehensive immigration reform. They found he had the same problem...

Mitt Romney's giant, amorphous guest worker scheme? - 02/01/08

As pointed out a few times, it's difficult to find out exactly what Mitt Romney's immigration policy is. In the past, he's hinted at attrition, but as far as I know he's never come out explicitly for it and defined it in the depth that Fred Thompson did.

New York Times editorial mind reads the "immigrant vote", gets it wrong - 01/19/08

Earlier today, the New York Times offered "The Immigrant Vote" [1], promising wrath and ruin upon those who dare stand in the way of corrupt businesses profiting from illegal activity: Nevada is the first state on the election calendar with a sizable Hispanic vote, and among them will be a substantial number of immigrants. We don't know who they'll choose, but we do know they are anxious. They have endured the racially tinged rhetoric used to sink immigration reform; they have witnessed Republican candidates exploiting the xenophobic nastiness. Families have been torn apart as illegal...

Scared New York Times tries scare-mongering attrition - 01/18/08

Apparently "attrition" - the plan to enforce our immigration laws and thereby encourage many or most illegal aliens to go home and discourage future illegal immigration - has the New York Times scared, namely because they think it would work.

Illegal aliens and social security - 01/07/08

John McCain has recently complained that a Mitt Romney ad was misleading about his record in regards to illegal aliens receiving Social Security benefits. From the ad, as discussed on Fox News Sunday (link): McCain pushed to let every illegal immigrant stay here permanently. He even voted to allow illegals to collect Social Security. As Chris Wallace points out, that's misleading.

Jay Newton-Small/Time misleads about immigration (Huckabee, Tancredo, INS) - 12/22/07

A minor example of how Time magazine and the rest of the MSM mislead and/or don't understand immigration issues is presented in "Tancredo's Single-Issue Victory" (link):

Fifth grader asks Barack Obama tougher question on immigration & terrorism than MSM; Sunlen Miller/Teddy Davis/Nancy Flores/ABC News spin - 12/14/07

An Iowa fifth-grader asked Barack Obama a raw version of a tough question about immigration and terrorism.

Joseph Berger/NYT promotes DREAM Act, largely ignores impact - 12/12/07

Joseph Berger of the New York Times offers "Debates Persist Over Subsidies for Immigrant College Students". It's in their "On Education" section, which is apparently exempt from their "tough" journalistic standards and thus the fact that it's basically an editorial in favor of the anti-American DREAM Act isn't that much of a concern. While not a PIIPP, it does come close in that it profiles two sympathetic students, both of whom - surprise! - are high achievers. The most noteworthy aspect is that he doesn't explore the downsides of the bill, which would include letting illegal aliens take...

Huge warning sign: George P. Bush joins Fred Thompson team - 12/11/07

George P. Bush ("George Prescott Bush") has (earnedmedia.org/fred1210.htm) joined the Fred Thompson as the National Chair of his "Young Professionals for Fred Thompson" group. This is at least the second link he has to the Bush family.

Lawrence O'Donnell smears entire Mormon religion, all members - 12/08/07

Speaking on the John McLaughlin Group, Lawrence O'Donnell (Senior Political Analyst at MSNBC) smeared the entire Mormon religion and all adherents including Mitt Romney, calling it racist and pro-slavery in a lengthy tirade. This post will be updated if video of his meltdown becomes available. UPDATE: You can watch his comments here: youtube.com/watch?v=AYgp-JszZ1w There might be some more on the previous segment: youtube.com/watch?v=W0xlS5O8kXk There's a discussion here: newsbusters.org/blogs/mark-finkelstein/2007/12/08/ larry-odonnells-anti-mormon-rant-demented-racist-pro-slavery-crazy

Sarah Weaton/NYT misleads about Huckabee in-state tuition, shows misplaced MSM priorities - 12/08/07

Sarah Weaton of the New York Times offers "Huckabee Immigration Plan Emphasizes Security". Most of it consists of a summary of that scheme and, since the plan itself is almost as short as the article, why not just read the source? She also misleads about this: Mr.

David Broder wants McCain-Huckabee ticket (because of immigration; retransmits Huck lie?) - 12/02/07

David Broder offers the completely clueless "Republicans would be wise to tab McCain and Huckabee" (link). He wants that ticket explicitly due to their immigration stances. And, Broder not only fails to do his job but he may be spreading Huckabee misinformation and he's being misleading about a program Huckabee supported: What sets McCain and Huckabee apart is most evident in the way they treat the contentious issue of illegal immigration.

CNN/Youtube Debate Debacle: 11/28/07 GOP version, Part 2 - 11/29/07

Part 1 is here. At last night's debate, CNN gave Mike Huckabee so much time to demagogue college discounts for illegal aliens that they didn't give Mitt Romney enough time to make the essential point that what Huckabee supported would have deprived U.S. citizens of college discounts. They also failed to do their research and realize that there's already an existing federal law (Title 8, Chapter 14, Sec.

David Brooks pines for Rudy Giuliani's illegal immigration supporting days - 11/23/07

David Brooks offers "The Real Rudy" (link), most of which consists of a series of now-infamous Rudy Giuliani pro-illegal immigration quotes. I half-expected him to try to explain them away, but I wasn't too surprised that he explicitly supports that side of Rudy, calling someone who supported illegal activity "moderate".

CNN, the most Soviet name in "news" (plants at Democratic debate) - 11/17/07

Thursday's CNN Democratic debate featured more than wimpy questions and a CNN-approved lie. Some of the audience members who asked questions weren't just regular Joes and Janes. And, CNN failed to disclose those links. From the transcript: [Wolf Blitzer:] you're going to be hearing directly from voters here in Nevada. They're going to have a chance to ask these Democratic presidential candidates questions...

Mitt Romney supports attrition by illegal aliens? - 10/13/07

A blogger tried to ask Mitt Romney about his immigration positions: ...he did not address the question of the fate of the 12-20 million illegals in residence here... I tried to get near enough to ask about it. A flack intercepted me and said Mitt was not answering anymore questions, then asked me what I was going to ask. When I said it was about the illegals already here, the flack said they would just self deport... At least he tried.

Mitt Romney releases immigration policy document (er, kinda) - 09/19/07

Mitt Romney has released a momentous 70-page tome called "Strategy for a Stronger America" (link). It consists of ten sections about his various proposals. In rather large print, with lots of pictures. No footnotes for him! The immigration section includes the following quote:

Ana Marie Cox: Mitt Romney not a Christian - 08/31/07

Ana Marie Cox (aka Wonkette) can be seen on the Keith Olbermann Show here saying the following: "I know Mitt Romney is not himself Christian.... or, that's a point of debate..."

Mitt Romney: Strong Man, for a Strong Country - 08/30/07

Watch the following video, I dare you! Do you now doubt that Mitt Romney is not best choice for Leader? What is the matter with you if you have doubts? Remember: Mitt Romney is the only candidate who bent the iron bar at the Algoronok Festival! It was not Rudy Giuliani (spit!) who slew the dragon that was menacing villagers in the Forest of Maglrnka! It was Mitt Romney! Of his virility, have no doubts: he has sired no less than five sons, all of whom stand ready to join in the defense of the Homeland against the Knablors!

Bush doesn't deny North American Union - 08/22/07

From this: President Bush today sidestepped a direct question about whether he'd be willing to categorically deny there is a plan to create the North American Union. Instead, he ridiculed those who believe that is taking place as conspiracy theorists. Here's that portion of Bush's thoughts: "We represent three great nations. We each respect each other's sovereignty.

The video that could make Mitt Romney president - 08/13/07

I don't want Mitt Romney to be president, but if I did I'd work night and day to get as much attention as possible to this NSFW video: [below]. Once again: the end of it is NSFW. Now that's a smear! And, sleazy too, and one that only a small percentage of the population would not be disgusted by. So, if you have a DailyKos account, or want to send it to Crooks & Liars or even democrats.org, feel free. Let's get the word out about this Romney fellow! 12/28/11 UPDATE: I embedded the video ("Does Mitt Romney Wear Magic Underpants") below.

Rudy Giuliani, Mitt Romney know nothing about NAFTA Superhighway. Nothing! - 08/13/07

On July 30, Michael Luo of the New York Times offered the blog post "Rumors of a Superhighway", refering to the NAFTA variety. Apparently the candidates for president are being asked about it, but, as with other questions they're being asked the questions are too general and allow the candidates to play semantic games. There's a video outtake at the link where Mitt Romney claims to know nothing about it and supports U.S. sovereignty.

Tancredo places fourth in Ames straw poll; will MSM cover immigration? - 08/11/07

Can mainstream media hacks like Tavis Smiley or George Stephanapolous be dragged kicking and screaming into covering immigration matters now that Tom Tancredo has placed fourth in the Ames, Iowa straw poll? Note that he did that despite being the victim of a hoax the day before (link).

Youtube/CNN Republican debate questions (I've had it edition) - 08/10/07

I give up. Well, not really, but that's how I feel after watching some of the submissions for the Youtube/CNN Republican debate (to be held at some unknown future date). As with the Democratic version, expect CNN to pick the worst of the worst in order to a) not make the candidates uncomfortable, and b) not make CNN's standard questions look as weak as they are. While Dr.

Mitt Romney opposes "special" pathway to citizenship, emphasis on "special" - 07/31/07

Mitt Romney is a real slippery eel when it comes to immigration, and neither professional "journalists" nor the citizen kind have so far been willing to find out what he actually supports.

Shocker: politicians are scared of citizen questions - 07/27/07

Mitt Romney is apparently going to pull out of the next CNN/Youtube "debate" because he doesn't want to answer questions like those from snowmen. Rudy Giuliani is likewise unsure. Hugh Hewitt thinks it will turn into a chance for CNN to ask a series of leftwing questions, and is suggesting against taking part. A look at the questions for the debate submitted so far shows that they have little to fear. Unless, of course, they're afraid of asking a question from a hot dog (link).

Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama speak to extremist-funding National Council of La Raza - 07/22/07

From this: Two top Democratic contenders in the presidential race are in South Florida to address the National Council of La Raza, the nation's largest Hispanic civil rights group. Sunday morning, New York Senator Hillary Clinton told the gathering at the Miami Beach Convention Center, she would prefer to pass a comprehensive immigration bill that would provide a path to legalization for immigrants in the United States. But, s

Joe Klein/Time Magazine: just a sleazy liar - 05/31/07

In his latest column, Joe Klein of Time Magazine discusses Mitt Romney, and says: [Romney] has flipped on immigration, to better suit the Mexican-fearing tendencies of a segment of the Republican base. That's a sleazy statement which tries to give the impression that opposition to massive illegal activity and massive public and private corruption is due to xenophobia and racism. Now for an example of Joe Klien lying.

Texas State Rep. Roberto Alonzo lies in Democratic radio address (immigration "reform") - 05/22/07

Oddly enough, the Democratic Party doesn't seem to be crowing about Teddy Kennedy's massively successful Senate immigration amnesty bill.

1994: Rudy Giuliani explicitly welcomed illegal aliens to New York City - 05/15/07

The unremarkable and as-could-be-expected-biased "Top GOP Hopefuls Keep Distance on Immigration" by Michael Shear discusses how John McCain, Mitt Romney, and Rudy Giuliani are backing off from "comprehensive immigration reform", aka amnesty. However, it does contain this: [Frank Sharry, executive director of the National Immigration Forum] remembers watching in

Rudy Giuliani is braindead on immigration - 05/01/07

Rudy Giuliani has laid out his immigration plan to something called the "Latino Coalition". Assuming the article is correct, it's clear to me that he and/or his advisors aren't able to figure things out, and he is simply unqualified to be president: Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R) told members of the Latino Coalition on Tuesday that U.S.

Alert: May 3 presidential debate questions needed - 04/24/07

On May 3, the GOP presidential candidates will be debating live on MSNBC and it will be streamed live at Politico.com. The latter site is looking for user-submitted questions for the candidates. You need to sign up, but that's free. You can also vote up questions.

Democrats think supporting border fence is a weakness? (Bill Richardson) - 04/23/07

The usually better Stephen Dinan offers "United on immigration, Democrats divide voters": In New Hampshire, Iowa and South Carolina, the questions about immigration arise repeatedly -- and Democratic presidential candidates say they know they are alienating some of their strongest supporters by calling for legalization of illegal aliens. While some of the top Republican candidates have begun to change their positions to appeal to conservative voters, Democratic candidates remain firmly behin

MoveOn.org to pester Barack Obama, John Edwards, Hillary Clinton, others on April 10 - 04/02/07

Received via email: Do you mind if we invite Barack Obama, John Edwards, and Hillary Clinton to talk with MoveOn members about Iraq in your living room? (OK, they'll be in about 1,000 other living rooms at the same time, but it's still unlike any other political gathering that's ever happened before). It's the first ever MoveOn Virtual Town Hall Meeting. Those candidates and others [1] will connect to living room around the country through an interactive webcast (or by speakerphone).

Scratch Mitt Romney off your list (Jeb Bush possible VP) - 03/30/07

As previously discussed, the Mitt Romney campaign includes a few people linked to Jeb Bush. Now, Romney says his list of potential vice-presidential candidates includes Newt Gingrich, South Carolina governor Mark Sanford and SC Senator Jim DeMint, and...

White House TWP illegal alien amnesty PowerPoint presentation - 03/29/07

U.S. News has uploaded a PowerPoint presentation the White House has regarding their new illegal alien amnesty scheme in this PDF file. Even by the abysmally low standard of other Bush administration plans, this is idiotic. Most of the provisions in there would not appeal to even the most cravenly corrupt Democrat, so this isn't a good bargaining ploy. And, it allows the far-left illegal immigration supporters (see the Kevin Appleby quote below) and racial power groups to portray the Bush administration as a bunch of meanies, which doesn't seem to square with their supposed play for the "...
