Gil Cedillo: "One Bill Gil"

Gil Cedillo is a California state Assemblyman who frequently acts more like an agent of the Mexican government. He's often referred to as "One Bill Gil" for his continual attempts to pass a bill giving drivers licenses to illegal aliens.

Also:

* He's a former member of the radical racial separatist group MEChA (other former members include Rep. Raul Grijalva, Antonio Villaraigosa, and Cruz Bustamante).

* Of illegal aliens, he said "they were here first". No matter how you parse it, that's a reconquista, MECha-style statement.

* Another bill he pushes is the California version of the DREAM Act, which in various forms allows illegal aliens to take college slots or college discounts away from U.S. citizens. Barack Obama endorsed the 2007 version of the bill, and an Obama ad highlighted that Cedillo had endorsed him.

* He wanted to create an "Office of Immigrant Affairs".

* He wanted California to boycott Arizona over that state's anti-illegal immigration law.

* He proposed an "Unconstitutional Towing and Driver's License Resolution" that was approved by the National Latino Congreso.

* In 2006, he (together with Kent Wong, Judy Chu, UNITE HERE, and We Are America Alliance) led illegal aliens in a civil disobedience photo op.

* He was on Migrant March II, together with Peter Schey, Nativo Lopez, and many others.

* He admitted that "Latinos have displaced other work communities - clothing, hotel, and restaurant industries that used to be done by blacks and anglos" and then said, "since Latinos are now central to union revitalization, through immigration and high birth rates unions can be partisan for full Latino empowerment."

* He compared amnesty to ending U.S. slavery, giving women the right to vote, and ending Japanese internment in a speech supporting an immigration march. He co-authored a resolution in support of that march.

* In 2008, he spoke at an immigration march; another speaker was a Mexican politician.

2006: Gil Cedillo supports illegal immigration boycott, shills for cheap labor employers - 09/18/11

The video below has a 2006 speech from California state Assemblyman Gil Cedillo in support of a resolution supporting the "Great American Boycott" immigration march.

Gil Cedillo pushes California boycott of Arizona over immigration law - 06/21/10

California state senator Gil Cedillo - someone who occasionally acts more like an agent of the Mexican government than a U.S. official - is pushing a non-binding resolution in support of a boycott of Arizona over their new immigration law (link):

Some 40 state lawmakers, including members of the Latino Legislative Caucus, plan to introduce a resolution this week that urges the state to "cease California investments in Arizona" and calls for Major League Baseball to reconsider its decision to allow Arizona to host the 2011 All-Star Game.

The non-binding resolution also includes a "travel advisory," warning there is a risk of being picked up by Arizona authorities, according to Sen. Gil Cedillo (D-Los Angeles), the main author of the measure.

Needless to say, this will cause those of a tea parties mindset to play tit-for-tat, supporting a boycott of California. In other words, they'd turn their backs on millions of American citizens in this state because of what a small number of far-left legislators with divided loyalties did.

The much smarter, more patriotic way to deal with this is to help discredit those like Cedillo (or those who have even more power).

Corrupt Arnold Schwarzenegger praises illegal aliens, "happy" they get services, says only have small role in California's problems; Cedillo pleased - 06/06/09

This is corruption in action:

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Friday disputed claims that illegal immigrants caused California's $24.3 billion deficit, while he praised their economic contributions and said he is "happy" they have access to services.

...In response to dozens of questions from readers who say the state ought to wipe out the deficit by eliminating services for illegal immigrants, the governor said it is a "myth" that those immigrants are to blame.

He said the cost of services to illegal immigrants, which has been estimated at $4 billion to $5 billion annually, is a "small percentage" of the deficit California faces.

"Yes, it is something that ought to be dealt with, but the fact of the matter is, I think it's an easy scapegoat for people to point the finger and say, 'Our budget is out of whack because of illegal immigrants.' "

While illegal aliens aren't to blame for everything, they do play a large role. Massive illegal immigration doesn't just increase spending. It also gives more power to the far-left Democrats in the California legislature; they use that expanded power base to push for more spending. It also fosters a climate of corruption, with leading politicians - such as Arnold - not only turning a blind eye to massive illegal activity but actually promoting it:

"You know something, as far as I'm concerned, I'm happy that they can get the services.. Because I would like to have the services if I'm somewhere in another country … if I have an accident with a motorcycle and I go to an emergency room, I don't want someone to say, is he here legally? ...Everything we eat today is picked and created by undocumented immigrants, to a large extent... And every time we go to a restaurant and every time we go and move into a building, a lot of those buildings are built by undocumented immigrants' hands."

The first part of that is a false choice: no one is talking about cutting off emergency services to illegal aliens. The debate is about cutting off non-emergency services, services that serve as an inducement to come here. No one wants kids to be uneducated, they just want them to be educated in their own countries. And, given that California's unemployment rate is at 10%, Arnold shouldn't be promoting illegal aliens having construction jobs at the same time as millions of those he was elected to represent are out of work.

To show just how much Arnold is on the wrong track, Gil Cedillo praised him for his comments and had this to say:

"Our economy is very, very dependent on the immigrant work force... They're a very disciplined, very stable, very productive work force. Our economy would collapse without them."

John McCain, Barack Obama to appear at National Latino Congress? - 06/21/08

According to a Mexican newspaper [1], both John McCain and Barack Obama may be appearing at this year's National Latino Congress/National Latino Congreso (latinocongreso.org), something I have a bit of trouble believing.

Illegal immigration marches: May 1, 2008 - 05/01/08

This year's marches for "immigrant rights" - i.e., to give rights to illegal aliens to which they aren't entitled - were much less attended and made much less of an impact than those in 2006.

A Dream Deferred: Robert Greenwald/Brave New Films supports anti-American DREAM Act - 03/28/08

Earlier I noted that Robert Greenwald's Brave New Films was going to start producing immigration documentaries. Their first is a video (link) and site (adreamdeferred.org) supporting the DREAM Act, one of the most anti-American pieces of legislation ever devised. It would let illegal aliens take college discounts and slot from U.S.

Barack Obama reiterates support for driver's licenses for illegal aliens (Carolyn Lochhead) - 01/28/08

Carolyn Lochhead of the San Francisco Chronicle offers this:
Sen. Barack Obama easily won the African American vote in South Carolina, but to woo California Latinos, where he is running 3-to-1 behind rival Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, he is taking a giant risk: spotlighting his support for the red-hot issue of granting driver's licenses to illegal immigrants.

It's a huge issue for Latinos, who want them. It's also a huge issue for the general electorate, which most vehemently does not. Obama's stand could come back to haunt him not only in a general election, but with other voters in California, where driver's licenses for illegal immigrants helped undo former Gov. Gray Davis.
She's actually right about most of that, but she forgot to include New York governor Eliot Spitzer in her list of casualties. It also isn't clear from her article who exactly is renewing Obama's support for those who've broken our laws; no quotes from Obama or an official spokesman are provided.

It's also not entirely true that "Latinos... want them". Latinos who are here legally can already get them. As for those who put their race ahead of the best interests of their country, see page 14 of the 2007 Pew Hispanic Survey (pewhispanic.org/files/reports/84.pdf). Respondents were asked whether there should be a check for immigration status before granting a license. 85% of non-Hispanics said yes, as did 40% of all Hispanics. A majority of native-born Hispanics (56%) said yes, but a majority of foreign-born Hispanics (66%) said no. Whether any of the latter included illegal aliens isn't clear.

So, just as long as Obama goes for the foreign-born Hispanics (perhaps including illegal aliens), he's got it made. It's only the other 75%+ of American citizens he needs to worry about.

The article also quotes Gil Cedillo and former Clinton administration official Federico Pena, who's now a supporter of Obama. In 2006 he led a group that tried to thwart a Proposition 187-style measure in Colorado and the spokeswoman for that group was the vile Polly Baca, meaning that Pena is linked at least tangentially linked into the Western Union gravy train.

More on Obama's immigration issues here.

Is Barack Obama a Muslim who practices Islam and who attended a madrassa? - 01/27/08

Is Barack Obama a Muslim who practices Islam and who attended a madrassa (madrasa) in Indonesia? Despite whatever emails you might have received, it appears that the answer to that is no. According to him, he's a "committed Christian" (link). His church is the Trinity United Church of Christ, whose pastor has made some rather questionable statements.

One Bill Gil Cedillo brings back illegal aliens driver's licenses (January 2008 edition) - 01/12/08

From this:
Saying Friday's release of final regulations in the U.S. REAL ID Act clears the way, a Los Angeles Democrat said he will move ahead with a bill that would let illegal immigrants obtain driver's licenses.

State Sen. Gil Cedillo has previously proposed such legislation, but it has been vetoed repeatedly by Republican Gov.

Barack Obama endorses California DREAM Act; help discredit him - 10/10/07

Barack Obama wants Arnold Schwarzenegger to sign Gil Cedillo's "California DREAM Act". From a statement (link):

The Los Angeles Times offers an editorial called "Make the Dream reality/Legislation to help undocumented California college students benefits everyone" (link) about Gil Cedillo's "California DREAM Act".

National Latino Congreso: "No Human Being is Illegal", Nativo Lopez, Gil Cedillo, Kucinich, Cuban Five, Fairness Doctrine, and more! - 10/07/07

The 2nd annual "National Latino Congreso" - a meeting of hundreds of "Latino organizational leaders, elected officials, and activists at all levels" is currently underway in Los Angeles (latinocongreso.org). Yesterday, Anna Gorman of the Los Angeles Times offered a whitewashed report here. Let's take a look at the groups involved and some of the loony resolutions that were passed. Expect the MSM coverage to be in line with Gorman's report: it will completely cover for far-left racial demagogues and avoid mentioning the loony resolutions.

Their "conveners' include:

* League of United Latin American Citizens
* Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (indirect link to the Mexican government)
* National Alliance of Latin American and Caribbean Communities (NALACC)
* National Day Laborer Organizing Network
* Southwest Voter Registration Education Project
* William C. Velasquez Institute

Their "co-conveners" include the California Nurses Association, Hermandad Mexicana Latinoamericana, and the Mexican American Political Association. Both the latter are associated with Nativo Lopez. They have 226 "endorsers", so discussing all of those would take a lot of time. But, one is the Communist Party USA, and most of the rest are far-left racial power groups.

The sheer number and sheer idiocy of the resolutions that were approved makes them likewise too difficult to cover in detail, however, they include:

* "No Human Being is Illegal" by Raul Anorve of "Instituto de Educacion Popular del Sur de California" (latinocongreso.org/resolutions07approved.php?id=41). If it were made U.S. law we would have literally open borders since we couldn't conduct immigration raids anymore and illegal aliens would have "full civil rights". It contains several grammatical mistakes and ends with:

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the that organizations represented by delegates of the 2007 National Latino Congreso urge the United States pass socially just legalization, including full labor and civil rights protections and family reunification; to place a moratorium on immigration raids, detentions and deportations, as well as their eventual abolition; and... [the NLC urges] the United States demilitarize the border, immigration control, and end immigration-police collaboration; to support initiatives and policies that ensure healthy and stable communities, including living wage jobs for all immigrants, working people and people of color... [the NLC urges] the United States redistribute funding and resources away from prison-building, policing and criminalization to social, health and education services, family reunification, ending the backlog in visas and applications for permanent residency and citizenship, and full civil and labor rights protections for all persons, regardless of their immigration or citizenship status.

Bear in mind: they approved that and all the other resolutions to be discussed.

* "Resolution to Urge the Bush Administration to Halt Immigration Raids" by Pablo Martinez of New Mexico LULAC (latinocongreso.org/resolutions07approved.php?id=22). It's moderate by comparison to the last, but that's not saying much.

* "Resolution to Urge Congress to Repeal 287 (g) and Restructure Federal Funding to Target Drug Enforcement Operations and Place a Civilian Oversight Committee" by ibid (latinocongreso.org/resolutions07approved.php?id=21).

* "Fair, Humane and Rational Immigration Reform" by Nativo Lopez of Mexican American Political Association (MAPA) (latinocongreso.org/resolutions07approved.php?id=45). As you might guess, it's a very bad idea, and includes him calling for enactment of the "Unity Blueprint for Immigration Reform".

* "Resolution on the Five Cuban Political Prisoners" by Alicia Jrapko of the International Committee for the Freedom of the Cuban Five (latinocongreso.org/resolutions07approved.php?id=12). When I said far-left, I meant it.

* "Support for Puerto Rico Self Determination" by Pablo Martinez of LULAC (latinocongreso.org/resolutions07approved.php?id=96).

* "Unconstitutional Towing and Driver's License Resolution" by Gil Cedillo (latinocongreso.org/resolutions07approved.php?id=26). It uses that possibly inaccurate recitation of events as a vehicle to support driver's licenses for illegal aliens; I wonder why they didn't just come right out and support that explicitly.

* "Decreasing the National Hispanic Dropout Rate Supporting the DREAM Act" by Luis Avila of the Somos America Coalition (latinocongreso.org/resolutions07approved.php?id=129).

* "Restore the Fairness Doctrine Act", ibid, (latinocongreso.org/resolutions07approved.php?id=126).

* "RESOLUTION TO DEMAND THAT THE U.S. SUPREME COURT HEAR THE CASE OF THE U.S. CITIZEN CHILDREN OF UNDOCUMENTED PARENTS" from Mr. Emma Lozano [sic] supposedly of the National Day Laborer Organizing Network (latinocongreso.org/resolutions07approved.php?id=125). She may be a part of that group, or that might be a mistake; the URL is to somosunpueblo (with an extra 's'):

[The NLC demands] that the U.S Supreme Court hear the Class Action Suit of the 5 million U.S. Citizen Children to prevent the enforcement of the removal of their parents fro the United States without first giving the children a fair opportunity to obtain a remedy for their hardship and redress for the implicit violation of their civil rights.

* 'Formal Position and Statement Denouncing Vigilantism of the "Minutemen Project"' by Yuri Jimenez of Kucinich For President 2008 (latinocongreso.org/resolutions07approved.php?id=62):

WHEREAS the Minutemen Project encourages and incites hatred, violence, racism and discrimination in border States... THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the organizations represented by delegates of the 2007 National Latino Congreso formally denounce the Minutemen Project, and further declare their position that the Project promotes violence, hatred, racism and discrimination which are not representative traits of the honorable and just American society that has a rich legacy of immigration and inclusiveness.

The other Kucinich resolution approved condemned Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio's illegal immigration hotline (latinocongreso.org/resolutions07approved.php?id=56).

Contact Arnold Schwarzenegger re: Gil Cedillo's financial aid for illegal aliens bill - 09/27/07

California state senator Gil Cedillo - sometimes called "One Bill Gil" due to his constant attempts to pass a bill giving driver's licenses to illegal aliens - actually has come up with a multitude of bills designed to give benefits to those who are here illegally.

Gil Cedillo's SB 1 would create "Office of Immigrant Affairs" - 03/19/07

California state Senator Gil Cedillo - a Democrat whose actions are usually indistinguishable from those that a paid Mexican agent would engage in - is back with a new scheme: creating an "Office of Immigrant Affairs" with bill SB 1.

He pretends that that Office would help new immigrants get settled in the state, help them apply for citizenship, and so forth.

Gil Cedillo, Peter Schey, LULAC, MALDEF, more at Migrant March II - 02/05/07

Migrant March II is a caravan driving from San Diego to Brownsville and back in order to push for immigration "reform". Those leading it are Nativo Lopez and Enrique Morones (associated with San Diego's Democratic Party). Also along for the ride is a Mexican official.

WFMOJALI: Gil Cedillo wants driver's licenses for illegal aliens, again and again - 01/27/07

Welcome to the second edition of "Working For Mexico, Or Just Acts Like It?", which will feature legislators and others who - while they may not actually be receiving cash payments from Mexico - certainly act like it (previously: Kyrsten Sinema).

It's also the ninth edition of this post's subject, California state senator Gil Cedillo ("One Bill Gil"), attempting to give CA driver's licenses to illegal aliens.

On the 15th of this month Cedillo introduced the latest version of SB60. It's currently in the Transportation and Housing committee, and the text of it is here. It implements the new federal Real ID requirements, with some additions:
Existing law requires the department to require every applicant for an original driver's license or identification card to submit satisfactory proof that the applicant's presence in the United States is authorized under federal law and prohibits the department from issuing a license or card to a person who does not do so. Existing law requires the department to adopt regulations, including procedures for verifying citizenship or legal residency of applicants for driver's licenses and identification cards, and to make a specified report, annually.

This bill would repeal those requirements on the date that the Secretary of State receives a notice from the Director of Motor Vehicles indicating that the department is in compliance with the implementation of the federal Real ID Act of 2005.
Gray Davis signing one of the earlier bills played a large role in his recall. Arnie Schwarzenegger has since vetoed a bill or two, but considering his new "centrist" role and his link to the Mexican government it's not clear what he'd do now.

Arnold Schwarzenegger vetoes driver's licenses for illegal aliens (again) - 09/29/06

This was expected, but never fear as California state senator Gil Cedillo will continue to try to give U.S. benefits to Mexican citizens who are here illegally.

Gil Cedillo, "immigrants" to stage "civil disobedience" at LAX - 09/28/06

Later today, "American" politician Gil Cedillo (CA state senate) and CA Assemblywoman Judy Chu are going to risk arrest by leading "immigrants" in a civil disobedience "action" near LAX.

California Assembly passes Cedillo's "full student aid for illegal aliens" bill - 08/30/06

California already gives illegal aliens the same in-state tuition discounts that U.S. citizens who are residents of California receive. Now, the state Assembly has passed a bill that goes a step further and gives illegal aliens the same rights to financial aid as citizens.

The bill is SB 160 (the "California Dream Act") and was authored by state senator Gil Cedillo with the assistance of Gloria Romero.

Assembly passes Cedillo's drivers licenses for illegal aliens bill (SB 1162) - 08/29/06

The California Assembly has passed Gil Cedillo's latest attempt to give driver's license to illegal aliens, SB 1162. This is just a week after the Democrat-controlled Assembly Appropriations Committe shelved his earlier attempt.

Needless to say, that minor setback didn't deter "One Bill Gil" from his life's work of giving U.S.

CA Democrats shelve driver's licenses for illegal aliens - 08/18/06

The seventh year wasn't a charm for California state senator Gil Cedillo (D-MX), as the Democrat-controlled Assembly Appropriations Committee decided to shelve his latest attempt to give legal California driver's licenses to illegal aliens:
Political insiders suggested the measure was perhaps too controversial for an election year.

El Cucuy es Raza! (Bustamante, Cedillo, NCLR, voting) - 08/02/06

Popular Spanish-language radio host El Cucuy (real name: Renan Almendarez Coello) is on a 10 city bus tour trying to register members of his audience as voters. He kicked off the campaign in San Jose (California) on Monday, and joining him on his fun bus were Lt. Gov.

Gil Cedillo is a California state Senator who works tirelessly for his constituents, especially if they're citizens of Mexico who aren't here legally.

California State Senate supports foreign citizens marching in our streets - 04/27/06

In a shocking - but not surprising - move, the California State Senate has endorsed the May 1 illegal immigration boycott and march: SCR113. This isn't suprising considering that many California legislators frequently act more like their Mexican counterparts. It's only shocking that they would be so bold and that the resolution would be so utterly dishonest.

Gil Cedillo's driver's licenses for illegal aliens: April 18, 2006 - 04/13/06

Gil Cedillo is the author of a series of failed bill designed to give California driver's licenses to illegal aliens: six attempts in the past seven years. Plus, he's also proposed similar bills giving illegal aliens - and only illegal aliens - a pass on towing charges.

This year's attempt to give benefits to illegal aliens from Mexico and other countries - Cedillo's core constituency - is scheduled for a hearing on April 18, 2006.

Colorado Democrats kinda getting serious about illegal immigration - 02/13/06

From this:
[Colorado] Democrats are wading into traditionally Republican territory - the issue of illegal immigration. House Speaker Andrew Romanoff, D-Denver, said Democrats are drafting six bills that will be introduced next week.

Sen. Gil Cedillo: even more discounts for illegal aliens - 02/07/06

California State Senator Gil Cedillo - nicknamed "One Bill Gil" because he keeps introducing bills trying to give illegal aliens drivers licenses - has a new trick: giving additional financial aid to illegal alien college students. The following is from 1/30/06 and was written by the California GOP, but since their site doesn't work too well this is the link:
Democrats in the state legislature have had a busy year so far.

Should Maywood CA secede? Should they change their name to "Aztlan City"? - 01/26/06

Maywood is a small (1.14 square miles), densely packed (28,000 residents), and almost exclusively Hispanic city southeast of Los Angeles.

California Democrat Gil Cedillo re-introduces driver's licenses for illegal aliens bill - 01/12/06

As surely as Winter follows Fall, Gil Cedillo has introduced SB 1160, which would give driver's licenses to those who are in California illegally. SB1160 is identical to last year's SB60.

Schwarzenegger's press secretary says his opposition to this bill remains.

Most of the illegal aliens who'd get licenses under this bill are of the same race as Cedillo, who's a former member of the racial separatist group MEChA.

Arnold Schwarzenegger vetos driver's licenses for illegal aliens - 10/07/05

Details here. Note that the title actually refers to them as "illegal" rather than implying it concerns "immigrants" as a whole.

Now, here's a shocker: Gil Cedillo says he'll keep trying with his campaign to get legal U.S. ID cards into the hands of Mexican citizens.

Bill would prevent illegal aliens' cars from being impounded - 09/20/05

Our "American" legislators in Sacramento continue thinking up creative new ways to give rights to illegal aliens. Consider, for instance, a bill from Assemblyman Alberto Torrico, D-Fremont that's now sitting on Arnold Schwarzenegger's desk:

The bill requires the police to return vehicles to their registered owners who present a valid registration and driver's license.

CalInsider: Arnold should just say driver's licenses for illegal aliens is a bad idea - 09/18/05

Rather than continuing to come up with excuses for not agreeing to Mexican-"American" legislator Gil Cedillo's constant attempts to give California ID cards to Mexican citizens who are here illegally, Daniel Weintraub has a alternate suggestion for Arnold:

...At this point the only honest reason to oppose giving licenses to illegal immigrants is because the state should not be giving its blessing to illegal behavior. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that position.

California Democrats support illegal immigration, lie about motivations, and pass driver's license bill - 09/08/05

The California Assembly and Senate have passed Gil Cedillo's SB60, which would give driver's licenses to illegal aliens. That bill now goes to Arnold for either a veto or his signature. He has until mid-October to decide. Around 70% of Californians are opposed to that bill, so, if Arnold signs it don't expect him to win any other elections. He might even get recalled, although whether there's enough time to mount such a recall is unclear.

Gil Cedillo's driver's licenses for illegal aliens passes. Urge Arnold to veto it! - 09/06/05

Unfortunately, it appears that CA state Sen. Gil Cedillo's bill to give driver's licenses to illegal aliens has passed the Assembly, and will now go to Arnold Schwarzenegger. This is the original bill, SB-60, and the voting breakdown is here.

Note that that vote took place on Friday, Sep. 2 in the morning. Despite that, the Sep.

Gil Cedillo's SB 60 passes Transportation Committee - 06/28/05

Gil Cedillo's latest attempt to get ID into the hands of Mexican citizens who are in California illegally has passed the Transportation Committee. It now goes to the Assembly Appropriations Committee, and if it passes there it will be voted on in the Assembly. Passage there would send it to Arnold, who will most likely veto it.
