Gil Cedillo/SB 160: free community college for illegal aliens

Gil Cedillo is a California state Senator who works tirelessly for his constituents, especially if they're citizens of Mexico who aren't here legally. He's tried several times to give driver's licenses for illegal aliens, including a creative way that would have favored them over everyone else.

His latest attempt to represent Mexican citizens is to try to give them discounted college educations via SB 160 [PDF], aka the "California DREAM Act". That is currently wending its way through the process. Arnold Schwarzenegger supports letting illegal aliens go to California colleges, but has not indicated his stance on Cedillo's bill.

Since there are only a finite number of such discounts, every discount received by an illegal alien represents one less available to a U.S. citizen. I haven't verified it, but according to this page illegal aliens could even obtain a Community College Board of Governor's Fee Waiver and go to California community colleges completely free.

Needless to say, Cedillo is a Democrat. Since he hasn't been censured by his party, it's fair to state that the Democratic Party supports his efforts.

I THINK THAT IT IS A GOOD BILL. ABOUT TIME THAT THERE ARE SOLUTIONS TO HELP THOSE WHO WANT TO GO TO COLLEGE. SOME STUDENST WERE BROUGHT HERE WHEN THEY WERE LITTLE AND DID NOT HAVE ANY SAY IN IT. THEY SHOULD HAVE THE RIGHT AND CHOICE TO GO TO COLLEGE JUST LIKE EVERYONE ELSE. THIS NATION NEEDS TO STOP JUDGING ALL IMMIGRANTS BECAUSE THEY ARE THE ONES WHO ARE WORKING THE HARDEST WITH A LOW INCOME. WE NEED TO APPRECIATE THEM AND HOPE THAT THEY CAN ALL WORK OUT THEIR LEGAL PROBLEMS. REMEMBER THIS NATION WAS MADE BY IMMIGRANTS SO WHY DENIED THEM THEIR DREAMS AND FUTURES. THERE ARE MANY CHILDREN INVOLVE WHO ARE NOT THE AT FAULT.

ILLEGAL OR NOT, PEOPLE HAVE THE RIGHT TO LIVE AND TO PURUE GOALS. IN THIS CASE I WOULD NOT HAVE A PROBLEM IF IT WERE TO BECOME LAW,THEIR PARENTS ARE TAX PAYERS TOO, AND ESPECIALLY HERE IN CALIFORNIA WHERE ILLEGAL ALIENS CONTRIBUTE HIGHLY TO OUR STAE ECONOMY, LET ALONE NATIONWIDE.BOOKS ARE EXPENSIVE, SO ARE CLASSES, AND COME ON, LETS BE REASONABLE, SOME U.S. CITIZENS WHO APPLY FOR FIN AID DONT FINISH CLASSES, AND HAVE NO ASPIRATIONS TO STUDY BECAUSE OF THE FACT THAT THEY CAN OBTAIN A JOB. THEY JUST MAINTAIN AN ACTIVE STATUS IN SCHOOL, PASSING CLASSES WITH "C"'S AND TAKING 2 CLASSES PER SEMESTER, COME ONE WHAT IS THAT
?!?!THESE STUDENTS CANT APPLY FOR A JOB BECAUSE THEY DONT WANT TO OBTAIN FAKE DOCUMENTS TO WORK, AND THAT'S MORAL, ALTHOUGH HOWEVER SOMETIMES NECESSITY DRIVES PEOPLE TO DO SO. iFTHEY DONT WORK,THEY RELY ON STUDYING TO HAVE A CAREER AND ONE DAY WORK AND CONTRIBUTE TO THE ECONOMY AND TO BECOME PART OF THE EDUCATED PEOPLE OF AMERICA. WHY NOT SUPPORT THE SCHOOLING DREAMS OF ILLEGAL ALIENS TOO. IN MANY CASES, PARENTS BROUGHT THEM OVER AS BABIES OR CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 8, EVEN 10!. LAST TIME I CHECKED KIDS HAD NO SAY IN WHAT PARENTS DECIDED TO DO. HELPING WITH EDUCATION, ALL ROUND, LEGAL OR NOT, WOULD NOT ONLY BE GOOD FOR OUR SOCIETY, IT WOULD ENCOURAGE EVEN MORE PEOPLE TO GO TO SCHOOL, IF AN ILLEGAL DOES IT, WHY CANT A U.S CITIZEN FINISH SCHOOL?? OF COURSE I WOULD SAY THAT FIN AID SHOULD BE A BIT MORE RESTRICTED IN THE SENSE THAT THEY SHOULD MAINTAIN A CERTAIN G.P.A, AND SO FORTH. JUST MY IDEAS, THERE'S ROOM FOR DISAGREEMENT, I JUST KNOW THAT IF I WAS IN AN ILLEGAL'S SITUATION,I DO HAVE FRIENDS WHO ARE, I WOULD NOT WANT TO BE PENALIZED FOR IT IF IT WASNT MY CHOICE...WHAT DO YOU THINK??

Given its record, the bill will quite probably pass the CA state legislature. It's also probable that the Governator won't sign it, but in this case if they made book on it in Vegas it'd be only somewhat better than even money.

Isn't this the most ridiculous bill? Of course, it would be Cedillo that has brought this bill forward. Out here in California it may pass, even though the ridiculousness of it. But I would hope that Arnold would veto it. But since he has been hispandering lately, who knows?

This bill is now heading to the Assembly Appropriations Committee. Does anyone know how the voting for funding will go? Is the entire Committee set to determine funding, or is there a subcommittee that will be handling it?

I'm trying to figure out who to pressure on to stop the bill.

They will be admitted after flunking the exit exam, as well, as many have in the illegal immigrant schools: Graduating Anyway
