drivers licenses: Page 1
Discussed in (click each link for the full post):
The California Department of Motor Vehicles is now handing out drivers licenses to illegal aliens. They expect over a million illegal aliens to apply and have hired hundreds of new workers and opened four new temporary offices to handle the demand. The DMV is also inconveniencing citizens and legal residents in the process.
At the September 4, 2014 California gubernatorial debate between Jerry Brown and Neel Kashkari, Kashkari admitted that he would have signed the same law as Jerry Brown that gave driver's licenses to illegal aliens. Scan forward to 3:40 on the clip below for the short version of what Kashkari said, then scroll back to the beginning for the full segment.
Politico's immigration coverage is already very bad, but their reporter Jose DelReal is apparently working at making it even worse. For example, DelReal offers "States boost immigration action" ( peekURL.com/zSymrNd ) which contains this:
Bill de Blasio's immigration position will enrich the wealthy, harm American poor (New York City) - 10/15/13
If you're an illegal alien, New York City mayoral candidate Bill de Blasio wants you to know that you're welcome in NYC. And, if you're a corrupt company or bank that wants to profit from illegal immigration, Bill de Blasio wants to help you make more money too.
Jerry Brown gives drivers licenses to illegal aliens in Obama's amnesty (Gil Cedillo, AB2189) - 10/01/12
California governor Jerry Brown yesterday signed AB2189, a bill that gives drivers licenses to the illegal aliens who'll be admitted into Obama's amnesty program.
Poll: 61% oppose California driver's licenses for illegal aliens (51% of Hispanics & Democrats oppose) - 02/28/12
California state assemblyman Gil Cedillo has yet again introduced a bill to give drivers licenses to give illegal aliens.
Meg Whitman highlights how much she agrees with Jerry Brown, still misleads about immigration - 07/16/10
Meg Whitman offers "Americans must come together to address the problem of illegal immigration" (meg4.me/hvud, ), which is basically a rewrite of the previous misleading Whitman editorial about immigration. Since the new editorial and the old one repeat the same lines, see that link for part of why she's misleading, and the below for additional reasons. But, first, here's this admission that should be more than a bit shocking to many of the Republicans who chose her over Steve Poizner (bolding added): In this race, my Democratic opponent, Jerry Brown, has said very little about most issues...
Randal Archibold misleads in support of massive illegal activity (New Mexico vs. Arizona) - 05/13/10
Randal Archibold of the New York Times offers "Side by Side, but Divided Over Immigration" (nytimes.com/2010/05/12/us/12newmexico.html), a bit of a crooked version of A Tale of Two Cities. The first paragraph misleads:
Indiana gov. Mitch Daniels on immigration: not good, but not enough information for full picture - 02/26/10
Indiana governor Mitch Daniels is being mentioned as a fiscal conservative, policy wonk Republican candidate for president in 2012. Like most "fiscal conservatives", he appears to support massive/illegal immigration despite the costs involved and despite how it gives even more power to those on the other side from him.
LULAC sues to prevent Ohio from cancelling possibly fraudulent car registrations obtained by presumed illegal aliens - 11/24/09
From this: (The League of United Latin American Citizens) is asking a judge to prevent state officials from canceling the registrations of more than 40,000 vehicles apparently driven by undocumented immigrants. ...On Oct. 8, the BMV mailed 47,457 letters to vehicle owners informing them their registrations would be canceled unless they provide a valid Ohio driver license or identification card or proof of a Social Security number. As of last week, 2,245 people had visited BMV offices and provided proof of legal U.S. residency. The state crackdown came after The Dispatch revealed that a...
New Mexico gave out over 1000 driver's licenses to illegal aliens, others with bogus documents; Arizona no longer trusts NM licenses - 06/14/09
In 2003, New Mexico governor Bill Richardson signed a law that allowed that state to give drivers licenses to illegal aliens, and when he was running for president he continued to support the bill. And, since that time over one thousand probable illegal aliens have gotten licenses from that state using bogus documents.
DOJ nominee Thomas Perez pushed driver's licenses for illegal aliens when president of CASA - 04/06/09
Paul West of the Los Angeles Times offers "Obama's civil rights nominee should be ready for a fight" (link) about Thomas Perez, the Maryland labor secretary who was nominated to head the civil rights division of the Department of Justice. Among other things, it contains this: Immigration is a minor responsibility for the division's lawyers, but the topic is likely to be a focus in the confirmation of Perez, a Dominican American. For seven years, he was a director of CASA of Maryland, an immigrant rights group, and served as its president in 2002. That year, CASA lobbied the Maryland General...
New Jersey governor's panel: in-state tuition, driver's licenses for illegal aliens (Corzine for 1st, against 2nd; wants halt to raids) - 04/02/09
From this: A state panel on immigrant policy released recommendations Monday that include in-state tuition eligibility and driving privileges for illegal immigrants, as well as the creation of a commission on New Americans. Gov. Jon S. Corzine, who convened the Blue Ribbon Advisory Panel on Immigrant Policy last August, said Monday he agrees that illegal immigrants, especially those brought to the U.S. as children and attending local schools, should be able to pay in-state tuition at the state's public colleges... On the slightly better side of things, Corzine opposes the driver's licenses...
WaPo admits: Maryland driver's licenses are incredibly insecure, open to fraud (advocating two-tier system?) - 03/29/09
When even the Washington Post notices a problem relating to immigration, you know it's a real problem. Thus it is that NC Aizenman and Lisa Rein offer "Easy-to-Get Licenses Expose Md. to Fraud/Out-of-State Illegal Immigrants Exploit Rules" (link). The WaPo appears to be trying to get Maryland to pass a Real ID-compliant two-tier licensing scheme under which illegal aliens would get a license to drive but not to do much more. However, while there is some PC beating around the bush, there also isn't the outright advocacy we've come to expect from the WaPo: Maryland ...has become a magnet for...
From this: FBI agents on Wednesday busted 10 people they termed "special interest illegal aliens" for allegedly trying to use fraudulent documents to get New Mexico drivers licenses. ...While the FBI isn't saying which countries the 10 came from, the news release said "certain countries are associated with special national security concerns," and that using the term "special interest alien" depends on which a given person is from. According to the news release, investigators are still working on the investigation, and believe that dozens of "special interest illegal aliens" may have...
Barack Obama reiterates support for driver's licenses for illegal aliens (Carolyn Lochhead) - 01/28/08
Carolyn Lochhead of the San Francisco Chronicle offers this: Sen. Barack Obama easily won the African American vote in South Carolina, but to woo California Latinos, where he is running 3-to-1 behind rival Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, he is taking a giant risk: spotlighting his support for the red-hot issue of granting driver's licenses to illegal immigrants. It's a huge issue for Latinos, who want them. It's also a huge issue for the general electorate, which most vehemently does not. Obama's stand could come back to haunt him not only in a general election, but with other voters in...
Is Barack Obama a Muslim who practices Islam and who attended a madrassa (madrasa) in Indonesia? Despite whatever emails you might have received, it appears that the answer to that is no. According to him, he's a "committed Christian" (link). His church is the Trinity United Church of Christ, whose pastor has made some rather questionable statements.
From this: Saying Friday's release of final regulations in the U.S. REAL ID Act clears the way, a Los Angeles Democrat said he will move ahead with a bill that would let illegal immigrants obtain driver's licenses. State Sen. Gil Cedillo has previously proposed such legislation, but it has been vetoed repeatedly by Republican Gov.
From this Secretary Michael Chertoff, head of the Department of Homeland Security, announced a set of final revisions to the controversial Real ID Act in a press conference this morning.
Peter Beinart (a senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations) offers "A Non-Story Remakes the Race". While it contains several other of his "thoughts", this one is relevant to this category:
On this video from tonight's CNN Democratic debate (youtube.com/watch?v=UQXYYIdjjFg via this), Barack Obama does a partial Hillary Clinton on driver's licenses for illegal aliens, before unequivocally supporting them (followed only by, "but, I am going to be fighting for comprehensive immigration reform"; the "but" part generated peals of laughter from the audience). In addition to his chances being
Presumably not wanting to join Hillary's List, New York governor Eliot Spitzer will announce tomorrow that he's shelving his unpopular plan to give driver's licenses to illegal aliens (link): The governor's office signaled to New York lawma
Thanks Hillary Clinton (and Eliot Spitzer)! A new Fox 5/Washington Times/Rasmussen Reports poll says that 77% oppose driver's licenses for illegal aliens, with only 16% supporting the idea. Opposition is at 88% for Republicans, 75% for independents, and 68% for Democrats.
Marie Cocco writes for the Washington Post Writer's Group, i.e., syndicated articles that apparently even the WaPo is afraid to print. An example of the latter is offered in "The Willie Hortons of 2008" about Hillary Clinton's support for driver's licenses for illegal aliens. After initial race-baiting, she shows us her knowledge of this issue and her thinking abilities:
Adam Nagourney of the New York Times offers this: Hillary Rodham Clinton offered support today for Gov.
One perhaps overlooked part of Hillary Clinton's wishy-washy non-answer to the question concerning driver's licenses for illegal aliens concerns this: [New York governor Eliot Spitzer is] making an honest effort to [bring illegal aliens "out of the shadows"]. We should have passed immigration reform. The "reform" she mentions wouldn't solve the problem.
This article (link) provides the insider details on how and why Eliot Spitzer "caved" and decided to only give a limited driver's license to illegal aliens. A taste: To try to smooth some of the anger, Mr.
Another day, another New York Times immigration editorial. This time, they're wrong about DLs for IAs in "Governor Spitzer Retreats" (link). They wanted him to be a good soldier in the NYT's war for illegal immigration and stick to the original plan no matter how much it hurt him: Gov.
I'll replace the following with a transcript when it's available, but from tonight's Democratic debate: [Hillary Clinton says:] [Eliot Spitzer] is trying to make up for the failure of the Bush Administration to address illegal immigration. He's filling a vaccuum...
Feds strike deal on Eliot Spitzer driver's licenses for illegal aliens (victory or defeat?) - 10/27/07
(Picture associated with UPDATE 3 below) From this: The Bush administration and New York cut a deal Saturday to create a new generation of super-secure driver's licenses for U.S. citizens, but also allow illegal immigrants to get a version. ...Saturday's agreement with the Homeland Security Department will create a three-tier license system in New York. It is the largest state to sign on so far to the government's post-Sept. 11 effort to make identification cards more secure [joining Arizona, Vermont and Washington]. ...Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said he was not...
From this: A new front has opened up in the war over Gov.
Richard Clarke - former counterterrorism adviser to Bill Clinton and George Bush - has endorsed Elliot Spitzer's scheme to give driver's licenses to illegal aliens, saying: States should act to register immigrants, legal and illegal, who use our roadways as New York is doing... From a law enforcement and security perspective, it is far preferable for the state to know who is living in it and driving on its roads . .
New York state senator Jose Serrano supports New York governor Eliot Spitzer's scheme to give illegal aliens driver's licenses. In this post he discusses an appearance on the Lou Dobbs show: first he race-baits and plays the victim card, implying that those who support enforcement of our immigration laws are racists. That, of course, is to be expected.
From this: A key Republican lawmaker [Assembly Minority Leader James Tedisco (R-Schenectady)] disclosed several "smoking gun" e-mails yesterday showing [New York governor Eliot Spitzer]'s administration had OK'd funding for a local health-care clinic last month - before suddenly canceling the grant on Monday after his attack on Spitzer's plan to give driver's licenses to illegal aliens... Spitzer c
From this: Seventy-two percent of New York voters who have read or heard about the [New York governor Eliot Spitzer's] proposal to allow undocumented aliens to obtain New York driver's licenses oppose the Governor's plan, while only 22 percent support it, according to a new Siena (College) Research Institute poll of registered voters released today.
Two Rhode Island DMV clerks (Soraya Santiago and Dolores Rodriguez-LaFlamme) have been arrested for selling driver's licenses to illegal aliens and drug dealers. From this: ...[Rodriguez-LaFlamme]... had already been ordered deported. Her application for adjusted immigration status had been denied after a federal investigation discovered two fraudulent marriages, according to a state police affidavit.
Vicente Fox: FTAA common currency (Amero), Hillary for president, Bill Richardson, driver's licenses, lies about heathcare... - 10/11/07
On Monday's Larry King show, former Mexican president Vicente Fox: * Said that the Free Trade Agreement of the Americans (FTAA; called in Spanish ACLA) on which he worked with president Bush was to, long-term, include a common "Latin American" currency. Since that agreement would apply to the U.S., the currency would apply here as well... * Promoted immigration from Mexico, "guest" workers, and NAFTA... * Lied about U.S. citizens not paying the healthcare costs for illegal aliens... * Agreed with Felipe Calderon's claim that "Mexico does not stop at its border"... * Promoted driver'...
From this: Gov. Eliot L. Spitzer's new policy that permits illegal immigrants to obtain New York State driver's licenses is "an absurd" decision that will provide a new gateway for terrorists, a member of the federal commission that investigated the 2001 World Trade Center attacks warns. "It's a perfect formula for al-Qaida. They won't be able to resist it.
Oregon gov. Kulongoski wants driver's licenses for illegal aliens, admits it's to help businesses - 10/08/07
From this: Gov. Ted Kulongoski is suggesting a two-tiered system for Oregon driver's licenses: one card for those who can prove they're citizens and another for those who can't. ...The license for those who provide proof of "legal presence" would become an official identification card, for use at airports, banks and other places that require ID.
