Immigrants' List are immigration lawyers; Daniel Strauss and Huffington Post don't reveal that (Immigration Heroes List)

Immigrants List is a pro-massive immigration PAC that recently named their list of top 10 immigration heroes [1], i.e., those who support massive and/or illegal immigration. One man's hero is another man's villain, and in the case of their Heroes all are villains to most Americans who oppose massive and/or illegal immigration.

You can find coverage of their list from Daniel Strauss of The Hill here, and Immigrant's List's own Amy Novick has a post about the list at the Huffington Post here.

You know what you won't find in either?

That all or almost all the board members of Immigrant's List are immigration attorneys. The leaders of Immigrant's List have a direct financial stake in higher immigration, yet neither Strauss nor the Huffington Post reveal that financial stake.

Strauss extensively quotes Ted Ruthizer, without revealing his day job. That's despite the very first search result for his name without quotes being the page (his law firm). Another simple search would reveal that that's the same Ted Ruthizer.

Amy Novick's post or bio at the Huffington Post doesn't reveal her day job either, and likewise it's not difficult at all to verify that she's an immigration lawyer too.

Want to help encourage better coverage of Immigrant's List? It's easy: tweet this post to responsible parties at the HuffPost (list here: and to Strauss: @DStraussTheHill. Suggest they engage in the standard journalistic practice of revealing when someone has a financial stake in what's being discussed.

1/18/12 UPDATE: I've contacted several HuffPost reps on Twitter, and the only one that replied to this post was one Marcus Baram (@mbaram, "Huffington Post senior editor, Watchdog blog pit bull"). As can be seen in the image below, Baram either can't read or deliberately lied. This post doesn't say or imply 'most undocumented workers are "villains"' as he claims. I would hope that anyone with even the most basic grasp of English would realize that this post is calling the 10 people on the list at [1] villains. This post doesn't say anything about "undocumented workers" themselves.

Whether Baram can't read or just set out to lie, he hasn't shown the integrity to retract his false claim about this post.

[1] Those on the list:

Michael Bloomberg

Senators Michael Bennet, Charles Schumer, Lisa Murkowski, and Bob Menendez.

Representatives Luis Gutierrez, Zoe Lofgren

Georgia State Senator Nan Orrock

Michigan Rep. Rashida Tlaib

Randy Parraz (led recall drive against Russell Pearce of Arizona)
