A challenge for Drew Carey/Reason Magazine (and other open borders hacks)

Washed-up TV comic Drew Carey is now working on a joint venture with the pseudo-libertarians at Reason Magazine [1]. In various video segments he presents the "libertarian" view of things, and the latest is called "The Cost of Securing Our Southern Border" (reason.tv/video/show/434.html). Like everyone else, I didn't bother to watch it, but I feel safe in asserting that there are many things he forgot to mention. This snippet is provided:

"One way out of this mess would be to simply allow peaceful workers to enter our country through legal ports of entry... If we did that we could stimulate our economy, bring a huge underground labor market out into the open and we could put unscrupulous smugglers out of business. More importantly, we'd free up border patrol resources that could be used to fight criminals and terrorism."

The last part is just the busboys canard, and there are other things wrong with his statement.

But, to make it easier, let's just concentrate on one unanswered question he might consider trying to answer:

While individual workers might be "peaceful", as a group they form a political power bloc for foreign governments. In other words, for very little gain (cheap labor is cheap for a reason), we'd be giving a foreign government even more political power inside the U.S. than they have now.

Does Carey deny that the Mexican government and others have been able to obtain political power inside the U.S.? If not, does he think giving a foreign government such power is acceptable? And, if the answer to that is also no, what exactly does he intend to do to prevent them from obtaining even more power under his scheme? Will Carey have any sort of answer, or, if he ever discussed that issue would he just answer with one of his cheap jokes?

Suggested Starting Points:

* Mexico's Undiplomatic Diplomats (by Heather MacDonald, link)

* Felipe Calderon of Mexico says they're going to be working with U.S. non-profits to push their agenda inside the U.S.

* Calderon encouraged Mexicans inside the U.S. to push his country's agenda to Congress

* Mexico is linked to the ACLU

* Those linked to the Mexican government were involved in organizing 2006's immigration marches

* Mexico is linked to one of the lawyers against the fence.

[1] Reason is a pseudo-libertarian magazine because their support for massive and/or illegal immigration has the ultimate impact of leading to more power for the far-left, leading to a greater welfare state, leading to more privacy restrictions, leading to more corporate subsidies, and so forth. When you actually look at the ultimate impact of what they support, they might as well name Nancy Pelosi as their editor.

LoneWhackJob, Your "question" makes no sense. While individual workers might be "peaceful", as a group they form a political power bloc for foreign governments. In other words, for very little gain (cheap labor is cheap for a reason), we'd be giving a foreign government even more political power inside the U.S. than they have now. First, it's not a question it's a statement, and a false one at that. Foreign workers(non-US citizens) only comprise about 10% of our entire population and therefore exercise very little control over the political structure as a whole. After all, if it were a sheer numbers game this country would be much more libertarian based on the "libertarian leaning" polls. Since those numbers are relatively abysmal, let's look to a country where the foreign workforce is not only greater in percentage but actually exceeds the native population of the country by a margin of 5:1. Dubai would be that country. Only 17% of the country's population is native Emerati, the balance being foreign workers or expats. Do foreign workers control the political power in Dubai? Of course they don't. They may agitate for better working conditions but then so do their native workers. If it doesn't happen when the native population is overwhelmed 5:1 it isn't going to happen when the numbers are reversed and then some at 1:10. You may argue that Dubai is a Dictatorial Kingdom whereas this is a Democratic Republic and you'd be right. Of course, non-citizens can't participate in the Republican process here, at least not directly anyway and any participation they do participate in has to convince the actual voting populace. If you are going to try to scare people over the big, bad, brown, menace you should really formulate questions(or statements) that are not so easily refuted. Now, onto the real meat of your "question". Your concern isn't the political power that "foreign workers" hold in this country, rather it's the perceived change in the demographic that you seem to think is happening. The problem is almost everybody in this country has bloodlines that start out of it, indeed most of them start outside of this hemisphere and unless you are 100% pure Arapaho or some such you are no different. Face it, this country and it's demographics have always been and always will be in flux. Fucking deal with it you xenophobic pussy.

You state: "Foreign workers(non-US citizens) only comprise about 10% of our entire population and therefore exercise very little control over the political structure as a whole." Bullshit. I live in Santa Ana, California, with a city council 100% mexican and a 92% mexican demographic. Do you think these electeds give a shit about American citizens? They put the illegals above everyone else, so you argument is bullshit. Let's look at Japan, which does not and will not import slave labor. Seems like the standard of living is pretty good there, Einstein. This isn't a race issue, no matter how much you try and characterize it as so. We are simply being invaded by hostile third world country, and when we take our country back, Americans will be lining up the "libertarians" (whatever that means) first into the internment camps for treasonous scum such as yourself. The change in demographics is not a perception: it is the reality I live in every day. Libertarians could not find their ass with both hands, so it does not surprise me that you live in some fantasy world where ignorance of reality suits your twisted treasonous ideology. Moreover, the "we are all immigrants" is such a tired line of bullshit. I am not an immigrant. Even the Arapaho came from somewhere else you redneck dolt. Nations do spring from the ground, you mindless twit. Now the use of the ad hominem "fucking xenophobe pussy" underscores your own intellectual deficiencies. The fact you use ad hominem means you have lost the argument, as "xenophone" is what lonewacko is aclled when he wins an argument with a psuedo-libertarian. If you are so much in favor of open borders, then I am coming over to your house to make myself a home. After all, I am just trying to make a better life for myself at your expense. I expect you to provide your address to support your contention, otherwise, you are the pussy, comrade.

_Americans will be lining up the "libertarians" (whatever that means) first into the internment camps for treasonous scum such as yourself._ America-firsters. They're always so charming.

Since they are approx 4x as likely as American Whites to be incarcerated, it would probably cost a lot less to secure the border than it is costing and will cost to prosecute and imprison Hispanics. _This isn't a race issue, no matter how much you try and characterize it as so._ Yes it is. No matter how hard you try to avoid them, as Hispanics become a larger and larger share of the population you will inexorably see the consequences of the simple DEMOGRAPHIC FACTS regarding their significantly disproportionate 1) criminality and 2) academic underperformance. _Moreover, the "we are all immigrants" is such a tired line of bullshit._ Yes. You know you're dealing with a hack when that shows up. _They're always so charming._ As opposed to, say, people like the person who wrote the first comment?

"If you are going to try to scare people over the big, bad, brown, menace"? I would like to see this Kwix clown put on some blackface and take an evening walk in some of LA's barrios. Maybe then he would have a clue about the "big, bad, brown, menace". What a dipshit anti American traitor. I can't wait for the hangings to begin.

Yes, as anyone who leaves the house knows, "barrio" is a euphemism for a suburban Hispanic slum.

"America-firsters. They're always so charming." Haters of America and its people, even more so charming, that's why they belong in prison camps. You better hope I never get elected to office, because after your internment you'll be deported to the former Soviet Union, your apparent homeland.

_Now the use of the ad hominem "fucking xenophobe pussy" underscores your own intellectual deficiencies._ That wasn't an ad hominem. An ad hominem argument would be "Lonewacko is wrong _because_ he's a fucking xenophobe pussy." Whereas Kwix's comment boils down to "Lonewacko is wrong _and_ he's a fucking xenophobe pussy." Anyway, if throwing in a gratuitous insult is grounds for rejecting an argument, Lonewacko has forfeited every argument he ever attempted to enter.

_after your internment you'll be deported to the former Soviet Union, your apparent homeland._
You can't deport me from a country I don't live in, moron.

Lol'd (and your other aliases): Come to LA and take your pick: walk around downtown, parts of the South Bay, the East side or these days even the West side and the Valley. At about 11 p.m. Depending on your skin color, you may or may not make it back alive. If you do, talk to us who've been here a while about how different it is today from a dozen years or so ago. Then take a look at the LA Times article a few weeks back in which the Mexican consulate said he had 1.6 million Mexican citizens in LA. Crunch the numbers: 1.6 million Mexican "citizens", plus a few hundred thousand illegals from other countries around the globe. Why heck, you come up with nearly half of LA's supposed 4 million population. These folks aren't paying income taxes (unless they've stolen someone's identity), but thanks to California's generosity and LA's sanctuary city status they collect WIC, welfare and host of other publicly subsidized benefits for themselves and the many children they have. And bleeding-heart geniuses like you can't figure out why this city and this state are bankrupt. Illegals also tend to be disproportionately involved with criminal activities -- take a look the LAPD's Most Wanted list or Google "Jamiel Shaw" if you any questions. Yet you have the gall to ridicule anyone who tells you that your Utopian view of the world doesn't mesh with reality. Incidentally, before you chalk me off as a racist, three members of immediate family came here from Peru. Funny thing is, they did it the legal way.

_Incidentally, before you chalk me off as a racist, three members of immediate family came here from Peru. Funny thing is, they did it the legal way. JinLA | 05.31.08 - 2:16 am | #_ yep. the good ol days, when it was *easy* to immigrate I presume all of you have visited ellis island. Now we have a wall. So much for the American Dream.

JinLA? I couldnt have said it better myself. Right on the mark and 100% accurate. Add in the English language getting pushed out, the [decade old] stagnant pay scale......the charming music and that entitlement attitude....and you can start to see wtf we are talking about. ANYBODY WHO CANT SEE THE NEGATIVE THINGS ABOUT ILLEGALS.........never liked this Country or the culture in the 1st place.
