LULAC, MALDEF, ACLU, business groups fight Texas immigration bills - 02/16/07

A new, apparently unnamed coalition has been formed in Texas to fight state bills designed to reduce illegal immigration. The coalition is using the standard pretext that immigration is a federal responsibility. Of course, they realize that the feds have abrogated their responsibilities; were the feds to enforce the laws, they would push for more local control.

Enrique Morones, Nativo Lopez on "Migrant March II" - 02/02/07

From this: Dozens of immigrant-rights advocates will depart today from San Diego to drum up support for immigration reform. Called Migrant March II [aka "Second National March for Immigrant Rights"], the caravan of mostly Latino leaders will drive to Brownsville, Texas, and back, meeting along the way with community leaders and residents in cities along the border, organizers said. Exactly one year ago, advocates led a similar caravan to push their agenda for comprehensive immigration reform that includes a path to legalization for the nation's estimated 12 million illegal immigrants....

Texas Gov. Rick Perry strongly supports illegal immigration - 01/12/07

Texas governor Rick Perry is closely following the George Bush playbook as he came out against attempts to prevent illegal aliens from taking Texas college tuition discounts from U.S. citizens. Some in Texas want to repeal the law he signed six years ago, and he's pledged to oppose their efforts. And, he's also revealed he's a liar:

Texas gov Rick Perry: no full fence, yes to anchor babies, guest workers - 12/09/06

Democratic Texas/Mexico/Aztlan flyer confirmed? - 10/21/06

I'm sure you all remember this classic: That flyer - showing Texas and Mexico rejoined - was supposedly passed out at the April 9, 2006 illegal immigration march in Dallas. At the time, I wondered whether it was a real poster or a fake. Now, someone has sent an email to one Sarah from dallasdemocrats.org and says they've received the following reply: "Yes it is likely one that we produced. I can't seem to get to the part of the site that explains the context of why they showed it though." Not exactly a full admission, and they might backtrack, but at the very least we can say they haven't...

Bush uncovered: he doesn't know what country he runs - 04/04/06

The Los Angeles Times' offers a four(!)-screener from Peter Wallsten entitled "Immigrant Issues Are Personal for Bush" (link). I believe the best way to characterize it is as a lame attempt to further divide Bush from his base. The subtext of the article is that the latter are opposed to illegal immigration because - quite unlike Bush - they're opposed to Hispanics or Mexicans.

"Banks aim to help immigrants send money home" - 01/27/06

What a heart-warming title to this CSM report (link). Of course, they don't go into the downsides: billions of dollars is flowing out of the country and being used to prop up corrupt foreign governments and depriving those countries of the citizens and industries they need to improve. And, that encourages those corrupt governments to send us even more of their people. And, many of those "immigrants" are in fact illegal aliens.

Border incursions: CBP wants investigation; Mexico issues border ban - 01/26/06

FWIW: U.S. and Mexican officials on Tuesday were investigating a bizarre encounter between Texas lawmen and heavily armed intruders who were wearing Mexican military uniforms while evidently escorting a caravan of sport utility vehicles that was smuggling marijuana into the United States.

Loony Texans oppose Minutemen; Perry offers lukewarm support - 09/24/05

"Minuteman border patrol raises opposition in Texas" (link) has a roundup of the open borders types that oppose the Minuteman Project. Those include Sen. Juan "Chuy" Hinojosa, D-McAllen and 10 other state senators as well as U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson-Lee, Texas Democrat. Plus:

Trans-Texas Corridor: "there's something wrong going on in Texas" - 09/16/05

I-NAFTA is rolling right along, but some plucky Americans are trying to put up some roadblocks: Trans-Texas Corridor critics denounced the state's handling of the project on Tuesday and called on McLennan County residents to organize against the proposed transportation network.

Dueling over a scar - 02/09/05

The TransTexas Corridor appears to be closer to reality: AUSTIN - Farmers oppose it, metro area officials are upset about it and now state lawmakers have their own concerns about the Trans Texas Corridor, Gov. Rick Perry's $184 billion plan to build megahighways around the state.
