Senate immigration amnesty bill: the downsides - 05/23/07

The concept of amnesty is bad, and almost everything in the Senate's illegal immigration amnesty bill is bad as well. It's fairly obvious to just about everyone that this is an extremely flawed piece of legislation, so what I'd suggest is using it to further discredit its supporters. However, please don't lose sight of the forest: we need to stop amnesty in general, not just this particular piece of legislation. You can do that by following these steps. There's a top ten list in "Rewarding Illegal Aliens: Senate Bill Undermines The Rule of Law". There are seven more reasons here, including...

Amanda Marcotte can't even get smears straight (Lou Dobbs, SPLC) - 05/23/07

John Edwards' former blogging star, Amanda Marcotte, offers [1] "Lou Dobbs really, really hates Mexicans": David Neiwert has a follow-up on the issue of Lou Dobbs trotting out numbers on national TV about Mexican nationals spreading leprosy that he got from a white supremacist group that pulled the numbers out of their asses. It's fucking disturbed that this man has a national microphone to promote racism like this. And his nastiness is getting nastier. Actually, there are two smears involved here, and she's confusing them. The "white supremacist group" is the CCC, and Dobbs did use a...

NYT editorial: Senate bill bad; "Know-Nothings" hate illegal aliens - 05/20/07

The New York Times offers the editorial "The Immigration Deal". Summary: they're going even further around the bend. They divide provisions of the bill into "good", "bad", and "awful", with the "guest" worker provisions in the latter camp. If the bad parts aren't removed, they say that no bill is better than the current one. And: It is painful, for many reasons, to oppose this immigration deal.

Leftwing illegal immigration supporters still after Lou Dobbs (SPLC) - 05/16/07

As the immigration "debate" picks up, various leftwing sources are trying to smack down Lou Dobbs in what may be an effort to counteract his opposition to any "reform" or what may be just a general attempt to support illegal immigration. There was, of course, the recent Lesley Stahl/60 Minutes lame hit piece.

The "anti-immigration movement" charted! (Bill O'Reilly, Lou Dobbs, Michelle Malkin, Ann Coulter, VDare...) - 05/09/07

Solana Larsen (whose name rings a bell for some unknown reason) is the president of "PuertoDansk" and a contributor to opendemocracy.net and other sites. At the site of the North American Congress on Latin America, she offers "The Anti-Immigration Movement: From Shovels to Suits" [1]. If you read the recent Max Blumenthal interview, you already know what she's going to say and how wrong she is. In fact, she and Son of Sid recently appeared on a panel together [2].

Comments too hot for ShopFloor.org (National Association of Manufacturers) - 05/07/07

Yesterday, Carter Wood of the ShopFloor.org blog (run by the National Association of Manufacturers) posted a content-free anti-Lou Dobbs post entitled "Running for President on the Fist-Pounding Ticket". I left a couple comments which were moderated and which have not been approved, and I doubt whether they will be. First, the post: Lou Dobbs for president, eh? Well, there's always room for an angry populist to stoke the fires of protectionism and the class struggle... True, most of the celebrities like Dobbs who talk about running for office are more interested in gratifying huge egos and...

Lesley Stahl/60 Minutes tries lame hit piece on Lou Dobbs - 05/06/07

Tonight's 60 Minutes featured a profile of Lou Dobbs by Lesley Stahl entitled Lou Dobbs, "Advocacy" Journalist? In the World of CBS, biased reporters - such as the dozens exposed in the entries here as well as Stahl herself, Ed Bradley, and Steve Kroft - are real journalists, but only Dobbs blurs the lines.

Chris Matthews is a Beltway Hack (Ron Paul, "Oh, God", Lou Dobbs as moderator) - 05/05/07

Via this, Chris Matthews muttered "Oh, God" under his breath after Rep. Ron Paul responded to a question he asked during the May 3, 2007 GOP debate.

National Institute for Latino Policy gets CNN to remove link from Lou Dobbs site - 05/04/07

Lou Dobb's CNN page used to have a link to Small Town Defenders, aka the City of Hazleton Legal Defense Fund. From this: An advocacy group, the National Institute for Latino Policy, protested that Dobbsa

Max Blumenthal feverishly uncovers the "anti-immigrant" movement - 05/03/07

Max Blumenthal - aka "Son of Sid" - was interviewed by Amy Goodman of Democracy Now! about the "anti-immigrant" movement with predictable results:

Lou Dobbs on media immigration bias; David Bosco/FP downplays - 04/25/07

Lou Dobbs offers "Big media hide truth about immigration". This site has hundreds of examples of that bias in the archives, so that won't come as a surprise to regular readers: ...the mainstream media are complicit in advancing this thinly veiled blanket amnesty.

Let's help Katherine Mangu-Ward find some Reason - 02/20/07

Katherine Mangu Ward of Reason Magazine discusses Bank of America's credit card for illegal aliens in "Credit Where Credit Is Due" [1]. Let's help her with her thinking:

Nancy Pelosi didn't meet the meddling Mexican congressmen? - 02/11/07

As previously discussed, several Mexican congressmen came to Washington to meet with their counterparts from the (U.S.) Democratic Party, and the two groups together demanded an end to deportations until "immigration reform" passes.

Democrats, Mexican leaders demand immigration "reform". Together, in Washington DC - 02/09/07

As previously discussed, a few members of the Mexican House of Representatives traveled to Washington DC yesterday to speak with their counterparts - all Democrats - in our House. Those Democrats appear to have lost their way and forgotten who they're supposed to be representing. Reporting on this event is hard to come by, but Lou Dobbs mentioned it on yesterday's show.

Ramos/Compean: prison beating; supervisors knew of incident; written report not allowed - 02/06/07

The saga of the two Border Patrol agents who strongly appear to have been railroaded by the Bush administration continues with the news that BP Agent Ramos has been beaten in prison by five Hispanics after they recognized him from either an episode of America's Most Wanted or the Lou Dobbs show. And: A Department of Homeland Security internal memo discloses seven Border Patrol agents and two supervisors were at the scene of

Hidden details of Ramos/Compean case; sealed evidence - 01/23/07

This site occasionally tries to have an introductory paragraph for new readers. Other sites do things differently. So, there might be interesting background here about the case of the two Border Patrol agents (Ramos and Compean) who appear to have been railroaded by their own government, but I didn't bother to read it through to see exactly what that was. Nevertheless, it would seem to be required reading for those who want to support the government's view of events. UPDATE: T.J.

Congressmen still fighting Ramos/Compean conviction - 01/11/07

From this Lou Dobbs transcript: CASEY WIAN, CNN CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): Texas congressman Ted Poe led a group of lawmakers demanding the Justice Department not oppose a request that former Border Patrol agents Jose Compean and Ignacio Ramos remain out of prison while their convictions for shooting an illegal alien Mexican drug smuggler are appealed.

Fred Barnes, Morton Kondracke support illegal immigration, again - 01/03/07

For future reference, Fred Barnes and Morton Kondracke - stars of the Fox News Channel's "Beltway Boys" - said this on their year-end wrap-up: Kondracke: "Our 'Dumbest Move' award of the year is Republicans trashing immigrants. And this - this has disastrous consequences for the, in the election. The Hispanic vote, which is the fastest-growing element of the population, went 55 to 42 percent Democratic in 2004. This time, it went 76 to 26.

Los Angeles Times on immigration: 2006 in review - 01/02/07

Patterico offers his Los Angeles Times Year in Review post. Here's some more bias from that paper specifically relating to immigration matters: Dec: Danced around the status of a cop shooter. Backs Bill Richardson's opposition to border fence.

James Poniewozik: Ugly Americans want to deport Ugly Betty! - 11/29/06

James Poniewozik is Time's TV critic, and he offers a ludicrous slab of pro-illegal immigration propaganda in "Ugly, the American". It's about the 'Ugly Betty' TV show: ...Smart and sweet-hearted, she embodies the Puritan-Shaker-Quaker principle of valuing inner good over outer appearance. She's as Norman Rockwell as a chestnut-stuffed turkey. The actress who plays her is even named America Ferrera.

Atlanta Federal Reserve tries dodge on indirect support for illegal activity - 10/12/06

Yesterday Lou Dobbs covered (alternate) the story of the U.S.

Immigration piffle from The Nation - 08/10/06

The far-left rag's latest issue is all about the "New Nativism". It goes downhill from there. For instance, let's look at just one article entitled "Nightly Nativism" about Lou Dobbs: Dobbs elaborated in his online column: "It is no accident that they chose May 1 as their day of demonstration and boycott. It is the worldwide day of commemorative demonstrations by various socialist, communist and even anarchic organizations....

"Dobbs to President: Do you take us for fools?" - 05/11/06

Lou Dobbs: President Bush continues to push his guest worker program and amnesty for anywhere between 11 million and 20 million illegal aliens, and he insists still that nothing less than what he calls comprehensive immigration reform is acceptable. And the lies keep coming from both political parties.

"Lou Dobbs: Radical groups taking control of immigrant movement" - 05/01/06

From this: We all awoke to headlines in our nation's most important newspapers reminding us that this is "A Day Without Immigrants." Not illegal immigrants, mind you, but immigrants. USA Today headlined today's demonstrations and boycott "On Immigration's Front Lines." The New York Times headlines its story "With Calls for Boycott by Immigrants, Employers Gird for Unknown." The Washington Post and The Los Angeles Times are both calling their coverage "The Immigration Debate."

Tim Rutten on Lou Dobbs - 04/03/06

Is Tim Rutten of the Los Angeles Times correct in his assesment of Lou Dobbs ("Lou Dobbs: bile across the border")?

Bush assures Fox they'll get "guest" worker scheme despite what voters want - 03/30/06

As if we needed more reminding, "Bush reassures Fox on immigration bill" reminds us that Bush doesn't work for or represent the vast majority of American citizens: CANCUN, Mexico (Reuters) - U.S. President George W. Bush reassured Mexican President Vicente Fox on Thursday he was committed to getting the U.S.

Morton Kondracke on illegal immigration - 03/06/06

Morton Kondracke appeared on Hugh Hewitt's show on Sunday, and it was a true Bushgasm of Bush-o-mania. They briefly discussed illegal immigration, and as could be expected Kondracke was his clueless best: ...I mean, he's got to come back here and do one of the biggest education jobs that any president's ever done. I mean, to turn around, this is all...this is a nexus of nativism, is what this is.

Dubai: DPW takes on Lou Dobbs; Coast Guard had objections - 02/27/06

The Coast Guard - at least initially - had questions on the deal (thinkprogress. org/2006/02/27/coast-guard-warnings-ports). The USCG says that it had all its questions answered by various intelligence agencies. That causes Bush cheerleader Insty (instapundit. com/archives/028853.php) to once again ask what the problem could be. As does co-idiot Kevin Drum: washingtonmonthly. com/archives/individual/2006_02/008310.php And (crooksandliars. com/2006/02/27.html#a7324): Lou Dobbs reported today that "Dubai Ports World" officials have tried to silence him and get CNN to suppress his reports......

Does Fabian Nunez represent the U.S. or Mexico? - 02/14/06

On Saturday, a group of pro-illegal immigration activists held a confab in Riverside. As previously discussed, it was organized by UCR professor Armando Navarro, and those speaking included California Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez (via a taped message) and a senator from a Mexican state. From the Lou Dobbs transcript: DOBBS: Tonight, this nation's open border movement has found itself some new friends.

Immigration lawyer unsuccessfully pimps guest worker scheme at DU - 12/17/05

"MemFromDem" claims to be an immigration lawyer, and in an anti-Lou Dobbs thread it tries to pimp the Kennedy-McCain guest worker scheme. "TahitiNut" takes it to task, complete with some shocking charts that I'll have to incorporate in future posts. And: Suffice it to say that when the 'ownership society' invites and facilitates an invasion of cheap labor from a deliberately oppressed neighboring country it's an invasion in nearly a literal sense of warfare.

The Democratic Party of Hidalgo County and "armed resistance" - 12/13/05

The post "Howard Dean to embarass self August 5 2005" discussed how the Democratic Party in Texas' Hidalgo County invited racists to speak at one of their meetings and even make threats against the Minuteman Project. I recently noticed this August 2 post, which says it's an article that appeared in the Rio Grande Guardian: Hidalgo County Democratic Party Chair Juan Maldonado has turned down the chance to appe

Lou Dobbs on illegal aliens rebuilding New Orleans - 10/11/05

From 10/10's transcript: There is new evidence tonight that good-paying New Orleans construction jobs which should, of course, be going to out-of-work Gulf Coast residents are being filled by foreign workers.

"American Companies Embrace 11 Million Illegals" - 07/14/05

Jim Meyers has a partial list of some of those large, corrupt corporations that are profiting off illegal immigration. This is a roundup, not just a rewrite of the recent Business Week article promoting the illegal alien market. Regarding that article, see this short interview the author did with Lou Dobbs.

Can I blame the Catholic Church then? - 06/01/05

The LAT offers us a guest editorial from L.A.'s own Cardinal Roger Mahony entitled "A Nation That Should Know Better": It appears fashionable these days, and almost politically correct, to blame hard-working immigrants, especially those from Mexico and Central America, for the social and economic ills of our state and nation.

Jesse Jackson and MALDEF go to Mexico - 05/19/05

Jesse Jackson shows exactly what type of person he is. When he first condemned Vicente Fox's remark that "[illegal aliens do the jobs] that not even blacks want to do" I (to a very minor extent) thought he might actually try to do some good.

Yale senior opposes Lou Dobbs - 04/19/05

Evelyn Shih - a senior at Yale - has some strong words for CNN's Lou Dobbs in "Lou Dobbs Fuels American Immigration Paranoia": ...In between the dry segments of news and peppered rhetoric, Lou Dobbs peddles a latent racist agenda that is an easy trap in today's global economy... Thanks for your input Evelyn, and good luck at Yale Global!

"Tulsa Senator Proposes Immigration Reform Legislation" - 02/22/05

"No more border games" - 01/24/05

Lou Dobbs: resident Bush has again vowed to spend his political capital to grant legal status to the millions of illegal aliens who live and work in this country. The president rationalizes his guest-worker program by constantly referring to the nation's need to match willing workers with willing employers.

280 voted "No"? - 01/19/05

Lou Dobbs' current poll says: "Do you believe the Bush Administration should inform Mexico's interior secretary that there is no 'right' for Mexican citizens to work in the United States?" Current results: 4713 (94%) Yes 280 (6%) No One might wonder who those 280 people are. Relatives of administration officials? Mexican consuls? Members of the California Assembly? "Liberals"?

Our borderline security - 12/19/04

Lou Dobbs: It remains to be seen whether intelligence reform legislation will produce substantive improvements in our national security. Republicans and Democrats alike certainly hope so, as do we all.
