Rights group sues Ariz. to stop wire transfer seizures - 10/19/06

Capitol Media Services/Howard Fischer/[[October 19, 2006]]/ link An immigrant rights group wants a federal judge to block Arizona from using a tactic Attorney General Terry Goddard says is necessary to block human- and drug-smuggling rings. Legal papers filed in U.S. District Court contend warrants issued by Goddard's office to seize wire transfers of $500 or more violate federal constitutional requirements that government must have probable cause before taking the money.

Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) gets earful on immigration from constituents - 08/21/06

A Q&A session Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) held at a public library in Des Plaines, Illinois is described here. The second attendee asked two questions: First, If someone enters your house uninvited, is it a crime? After some consideration, Rep. Schakowsky granted that that situation might be construed as trespassing. Second: Do you support a moratorium on the deportation of illegal immigrants? to which Mrs. Schakowsky emphatically answered "Yes." The questioner wanted to know the whys and wherefores of her reasoning, but the good congresswoman mumbled something about the 'Day Without...

Blagojevich gives illegal aliens better deal than veterans - 01/27/06

Gov. Rod Blagojevich of Illinois is truly a piece of work. His latest attempt to give benefits to illegal aliens is opening a state-sponsored low-interest mortgage loan program to citizens of other countries who are here illegally:

"Banks aim to help immigrants send money home" - 01/27/06

What a heart-warming title to this CSM report (link). Of course, they don't go into the downsides: billions of dollars is flowing out of the country and being used to prop up corrupt foreign governments and depriving those countries of the citizens and industries they need to improve. And, that encourages those corrupt governments to send us even more of their people. And, many of those "immigrants" are in fact illegal aliens.

Martin Sandoval, Illinois senator, wants to represent Mexicans too - 09/28/05

Martin Sandoval is a state Senator from Illinois. He's also running for a seat on Mexico's "Institute for Mexicans Abroad" advisory council: Sandoval would be the first elected official in the U.S. to serve on the advisory council. That raises the peculiar prospect of the Cicero Democrat offering policy advice in an official capacity to Mexican Cabinet members while creating laws in Illinois... As it turns out, no law or rule prohibits it, in Mexico or in Illinois. Mexican officials call it an honorary position... ... "I see no conflict at any point. There are always people who will have...

"GOP Immigration Idiocy In Illinois" - 08/31/04

As you may recall, before choosing Alan Keyes to run against Barack Obama, the IL GOP held a ludicrous search for a candidate. About the only person they didn't consider was Chitown's own Bozo the Clown. Eventually they settled on Alan Keyes, who now trails Obama by a whopping 41 points. At the time, the story that failed to gain any traction was that there was a perfectly good challenger available and he even lived in the state in question: Jim Oberweis. He finished second in the primary behind Jack Ryan. So, why wasn't Oberweis picked? Because he made the mistake of opposing illegal...

Is the Illinois GOP making sense? - 08/03/04

The Illinois GOP is continuing their fervent search for a competitor to Barack Obama. At post time, they have not yet considered my suggestion that they consider Chitown institution Bozo, but give them time. Meanwhile, the latest desperate plan from the Illinois GOP is to convince one-time presidential candidate and two-time senatorial candidate Alan Keyes to move from Maryland to Illinois and run against Barack Obama: "GOP wooing Keyes to take on Obama". Not a bad plan, but wouldn't the second place finisher in the primary be a more natural choice? He does, after all, already live in...
