Hear the new Tea Party anthem

Every revolution needs a great song that their followers can rally around, and the National Tea Party Council has sent me a link to their new anthem which they inform me is great. I haven't watched it yet, but from the preview it certainly looks like one of those tea parties.

EMBARRASSING UPDATE: This morning, I watched the first few seconds just to make sure this was a pro-tea party video, and it seemed OK. After all, marching through the streets carrying loopy signs is the hallmark of their movement. The bobby hats seemed a little out of place, but I chalked it up to the video being from Buffalo or somewhere else up near the border. Now, unfortunately, I realize this is in fact not a new tea party anthem but is something quite different (ideologically at least).

Regarding regrets, the only thing I'd regret is not speaking out against the tea party loons. There are two problems: their ideology, and their methods. They could still push the same ideology in a much more effective way, but instead their leaders are tied to cheap stunts and useless street corner protests. Their leaders are, in a word, lunkheads. And, their fringe ideology isn't even the defensible fringe but is instead focused only on completely self-centered and completely selfish financial matters. They have no interest in what's good for the U.S. as a whole but instead are only concentrating on their own self interest. Add in the fact that many of those pulling the strings on the movement (FreedomWorks, Grover Norquist, the Koch family, etc.) support massive immigration, and there's no way anyone who supports the best public policies should support their "movement".

I resent that you make light of this movement, LW. Using an allusion to the communists is really insulting. Wait and see, you'll regret your position on this issue.

All political deals are made before anything can happen. We now live in a non nation state and laws and tea party BS Means nothing. Its all controlled by the people who have the power, talk show people are controlled TV News people are controlled all is under someones control. But if people want to be free you have one way the rope and the tree but that would mean people would not be able to go to starbuck or the mall or just watch some movie for a long time. People do not want freedom people want to have the good life the easy life the free life and BS Is what people really want. but some of us don't care about the easy life, and some may act up against evil; if you know what i mean?

I agree with Horace. I love your blog, but your condescension towards this movement is petty and ill-placed. Anything that gets people standing up against the free-spending ways of this administration should be applauded, not derided. And do you really think that those folks are for massive immigration? That's not what they're advocating for. It doesn't matter who is "pulling the strings". If the folks behind it started pushing protesters to speak out in favor of massive immigration, they'd lose 90% of their audience off the top. Obama's out-of-control spending is dangerous and these folks are doing us all a service by raising the issue in a very public way. By attacking these people in the streets, you're attacking the very people who agree with you on almost every issue (including immigration). You should rethink your smug position on this.

Exactly, ROP, regardless of how one feels about the tea parties and their efficacy, they are harbingers of the beginning of a heartening new political activism among conservatives. It is a visual sign that Americans are willing to stand up for their rights in the face of democrat majority political abuse. More power to them. LW, while your "put-the-politician-on-the-hot-seat" is a valid approach, I don't see it working.

"They have no interest in what's good for the U.S. as a whole but instead are only concentrating on their own self interest." Like the War For Independence, the beginning of a movement always starts with an individual's self-interests. Although what you say about the initial leaders may be true, such things almost always become runaways, diverging from the original intent. Given the selfishness you assert, many will eventually get the idea that amnesty for illegal aliens is not in their best interests.
