Pilbara pastoralist proud of custom truck lift arm

Shown right or below is a photo of Pilbara pastoralist John Anick taken three years ago as his entry into a local custom truck lift arm competition (link). Operating his cattle station - located just 1200km northeast of Perth whereever and whatever units that is - gives him plenty of opportunities to employ the lift arm, whether for moving fencing or feed and grain supplies.

As you can see, directly behind the cabin there's a solid steel lattice constructed on the outside with L-shaped bars and with reinforcing flat bars welded into place on the inside; the L-shape helps further maintain rigidity. And, what some might miss is that the outside extends over the side not just to provide a junction with the lower side pipe, but even further. That important step makes it easy to bolt the overlapped side directly into the truck frame. It's not going anywhere!

For the sides, Anick has taken the innovative tack of using recycled copper tubing, including for the use of diagonal braces.

And, of course, for maximum usability, the lift arm itself has not just one but two retractable sections.

Excellent, excellent work!
