Illegal aliens march, demand same rights as citizens. A good thing? - 02/19/06

Is it a good thing to have illegal aliens agitating for extra rights inside your country? Isn't that a dangerous situation? Here are three recent examples: "Hundreds gather in opposition to federal immigration legislation" by Ted Roelofs of the Grand Rapids Press.

Karen E. Crummy of Denver Post confused about "American" concept - 01/08/06

The DP reports on 1/7's "National Day of Protest" against illegal immigration in "Immigration dispute flares at center". It includes this unbelievable paragraph: The illegal immigrants, said Eric Tavares, have taken jobs away from "real" Americans. Memo to the Denver Post: illegal aliens are not Americans, they are by definition citizens of another country. While there's the possibility they only put that in quotes because Tavares said that, isn't it correct?

Palm Beach Post prints PIIPP on home loans for illegal aliens - 09/19/05

One of the sub-category of PIIPPs ("pro-illegal immigration puff pieces") is that which promotes illegal aliens getting home loans using ITINs instead of SSNs. The Palm Beach Post has printed the latest in this long line, entitled "New mortgage rules help open doors for immigrants". They've found a twist: the sympathetic subjects in this case are here on a temporary visa.

Will illegal aliens get voting rights because of corrupt Republicans? - 09/10/05

The Santa Barbara News-Press article "Latinos feel let down by governor" by Melinda Burns contains the following quote from "Carmen Herrera, an organizer for PUEBLO, a Santa Barbara-based group that advocates on behalf of the poor": "The governor has always said he does not support immigrants, and he never misses an opportunity to remind us of that... I don't understand why. He, too, was an immigrant once. He has been through what many of us have been through. But he has forgotten...

NYT: Devastating hurricane hits Gulf Coast; illegal aliens hardest hit - 09/07/05

No, it's not a parody. With all the possible coverage of Katrina, the New York Times actually wrote an article on the plight of "undocumented" immigrants in the disaster zone. From Ian Urbina's "Foreign Workers Are Caught in a Double Trap" (link) (abbreviated version: denverpost . com/katrina/ci_3003983):

Putting a human face on the anti-American DREAM Act - 07/29/05

Seattle Times editorial columnist Kate Riley offers us "Putting a human face on the immigration debate". Like many other PIIPPs ("pro-illegal immigration puff pieces") it supports Orrin Hatch (R-UT)'s anti-American DREAM Act. That Act would take discounted college educations away from U.S.

NYT goes to Idaho, discovers illegal immigration - 05/29/05

Monday's New York Times has a front page article about illegal immigration to Idaho and County Commissioner Robert Vasquez's attempts to do something about it: "A Battle Against Illegal Workers, With an Unlikely Driving Force". In what might be a first for the NYT, it's not a PIIPP, and the bleeding heart "liberalism" of Nina Bernstein is nowhere to be found. It does, however, approach this issue with the idea that being Hispanic implies that one must also support illegal immigration. If that's true, does that mean that all or most Hispanics don't respect our laws and put their race...

Get out your hankies, here comes a PIIPP - 05/08/05

The NY Daily News is a repeat offender, having published other PIIPPs ("pro-illegal immigration puff pieces") in the past. Their latest ("Best & brightest in bind") starts with this: Carlos will graduate with honors from Brooklyn College next month with a mathematics degree. It's a subject he loves and hopes to teach one day to elementary school students... The tear-jerking story goes on to explain that he's "undocumented", and thus won't be able to find a job.

Hillary's stealth issue for '08 - 11/26/04

[Cross-posted to the Command Post and redstate.org/story/2004/11/26/163449/72] NewsMax offers a roundup of Hillary being to the "right" of Bush on immigration matters: "Hillary Eyeing Immigration as Top 2008 Issue". There's no outright statement from her saying if she ran she'd make it a key part of her campaign, but some of the things she's said might make people think she's got that in mind.

NYC non-NYT PIIPP spotted - 10/11/04

A PIIPP ("pro-illegal immigration puff piece") has been spotted in NYC, but for a change it's not from the NYT. From NY Newsday's "Driven by DMV alert" by Robert Polner: When Jose, a house painter, got the letter at his Brooklyn home this summer, he panicked. He was among 600,000 people notified by the state Department of Motor Vehicles that they had 15 days to produce a valid Social Security number or face

My offshore PIIPP processing team is still being trained, so I'm not able to process this article immediately. However, I'm presenting it here for readers who would like a preview. (For those who aren't familiar with the term, a PIIPP is a "pro-illegal immigration puff piece." Several example PIIPPs are presented starting here.

The PIIPP to end all PIIPPs - 09/01/04

As you'll recall, a PIIPP is a "pro-illegal immigration puff piece." It must advocate for illegal immigration and the person to whom we're to feel Sally Struthers-level sympathy for must appear in the first sentence. And, I believe I've spotted the PIIPP to end all PIIPPs in the New York Times.

"Immigrants Face Loss of Licenses in ID Crackdown" - 08/18/04

PIIPP spotted by accident - 08/05/04

I ran across yet another PIIPP ("pro-illegal immigration puff piece"), and it's a classic of the genre.

More pro-illegal immigration puff pieces noted - 07/11/04

A brief summary of the rules: a "pro-illegal immigration puff piece" (hereinafter "PIIPP") must mention the name of the person we're to feel Sally Struthers-level sympathy for in the first sentence and must be full of lies and/or vapid platitudes. Bart Jones, the immigration reporter for Long Island's Newsday, appears to offer a treasure trove of such PIIPPs: The Newcomers: El Sal
