Pro-illegal immigration performance art (funding by Bank of America and Wells Fargo) - 03/21/07

Observe, if you will, this picture: Here's the explanation: Families affected by a series of federal immigration raids this month spoke out in San Rafael on Tuesday at a news conference that showcased them as silhouetted subjects shrouded behind a privacy screen. Hosted by Canal Alliance at a building adjacent to its headquarters on Larkspur Street, the bizarre question-and-answer session - featuring men, women and children assigned pseudonyms - was aimed at telling their stories while hiding their identities to protect them from possible deportation, organizers said... Those "in the...

Deval Patrick knew about New Bedford immigration raid in February ("humanitarian crisis") - 03/14/07

After the New Bedford immigration raid, Massachusetts governor Deval Patrick ranted against the Feds, claiming that they had caused a "humanitarian crisis" due to the children of illegal aliens involved. In fact, this has become a stock talking point of the usual supporters of illegal immigration, with John Kerry, Ted Kennedy, William Delahunt, and Barney Frank supporting "grieving" illegal aliens. Now, a different picture is emerging. Namely, the Patrick administration had months of foreknowledge of the raids and seemingly every chance in the world to try to prevent the "crisis". From this...

Wall Street Journal not very Swift in support for illegal immigration - 12/24/06

The WSJ comments on the recent Swift & Co. immigration raids in "Not Very Swift". As could be expected, they oppose the raids. Let's look at a couple of their statements to see where their priorities lie. Immigration restrictionists would have us believe that harassing businesses like Swift, the world's second-largest beef and pork processor, helps make America safer. But so far the Swift raids haven't uncovered any al Qaeda cells, merely a bunch of hard-working people trying to feed their families. The operation involved more than 1,000 federal agents in six states. And of Swift's 15,000...

Stillmore: Crider Poultry employing homeless, felons instead of illegal aliens - 11/27/06

In September, ICE raided the Crider Poultry plant in Stillmore, Georgia, which resulted in hundreds of illegal aliens leaving the city.

Southern Poverty Law Center sues ICE over Stillmore immigration raids - 11/01/06

In September, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents began sweeps in Stillmore, Georgia relating to illegal hiring at the Crider poultry plant in that town. Now, the SPLC is suing over those raids. On a perhaps related note, the Southern Poverty Law Center (more on them at that link or here) has at least one indirect link to the Mexican government. From the AP: A civil rights group sued the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency Wednesday, claiming its agents had harassed five U.S. citizens of Mexican descent during raids targeting illegal immigrants in southeast...

Just 30 people set federal policy - 06/29/04

Imagine, if you will, a group of thirty people. Five groups of six people each will do. Keep that image in your mind: With agents clad in dark riot gear looking on, about 30 activists gathered outside the Border Patrol station in Temecula on Monday to protest recent immigration sweeps in Southern California. Meanwhile, thousands of U.S. citizens have phoned and emailed the DHS and other agencies in support of the sweeps. Yet, somehow, the illegal-alien-supporters win out. Odd, no? Perhaps it's because those in Washington are afraid being called names: "We're organized and we're ready to fight...

Illegal alien drop house busted in Watts - 04/23/04

The LAPD and the BICE busted a drop house in Watts in which over 110 illegal aliens were held captive. The house is 1100 square feet, and the doors were chained shut while the smugglers demanded more money. 88 of the aliens are now in BICE custody awaiting deportation. The smugglers escaped, and the aliens are out thousands of dollars. While we can occasionally bust drop houses, the more intelligent way to reduce the number of such incidents is to make it unprofitable to hire illegal aliens. The backstory is the most interesting part of this: Local law enforcement officials say the only thing...
