NM's Richardson declares border emergency

New Mexico's Bill Richardson is pro-open borders and pro-racial solidarity ("...we have to put aside party and think of ourselves as Latinos, as Hispanics, more than we have in the past."), making this report a bit interesting, but not really all that much. He's pledging $1.75 million to four border counties to help them build fences and other things related to border security:
Richardson's declaration said law enforcement officials have used all available resources to help with border security. But those efforts haven't alleviated the situation, which he said "constitutes an emergency condition with potentially catastrophic consequences."

"Recent developments have convinced me this action is necessary _ including violence directed at law enforcement, damage to property and livestock, increased evidence of drug smuggling and an increase in the number of undocumented immigrants," he said...

"We don't want contagious diseases to contaminate our food supply and disrupt our agricultural economy," Richardson said in a statement before his trip...
UPDATE: Gosh, that's odd. The AP report seems to have left out some absolutely unimportant quotes, now supplied by CNN:
The declaration says the region "has been devastated by the ravages and terror of human smuggling, drug smuggling, kidnapping, murder, destruction of property and the death of livestock... [It] is in an extreme state of disrepair and is inadequately funded or safeguarded to protect the lives and property of New Mexican citizens."

...Richardson... criticized the "total inaction and lack of resources from the federal government and Congress" in helping protect his state's residents along the border...
Meanwhile, Bush's friends to our south have issued their own statement:
Mexico said the declarations "don't jibe with the spirit of cooperation and understanding" and ordered its consul in Albuquerque to meet with New Mexico officials "to promote appropriate actions by the officials of both countries."

..."The Mexican government considers that some of the New Mexico government's statements are generalizations which don't jibe with the spirit of cooperation and understanding needed to address border problems," Mexico's Foreign Relations Department said in a press statement.
Obviously, we wouldn't have a border problem, or it would be greatly reduced, if there were some more responsible and less corrupt country to our south.

With this guy , and since they have up to now accomodated the illegals, I would say this is about money, federal money, reparations etc.

Well, there are costs to selling out the country.

We see a lot of this kind of thing. Many states have sought funds to repay them for entitlements provided illegals by the state: hospitals, for jailings, various welfare, other costs due to illegals.

It would seem that upon being invaded by the criminal alien hordes, that troops would have been the answer, and the requested aid, right, the traditional response to invasion, which, not incidentally, means that Article IV, sec 4 U.S. Constitution should have been invoked to provide protection of New Mexico from invasion in the first place. But there's no money in that.

In other words, being invaded and overrun is okay, go ahead and sell the country out, then make the pitch for funds - it's the federal government's responsibility in any case. The governor, who could have called for the troops to put a stop to the invasion, a logical step, saw a better way. Get money, but still, note, he does not call for the stopping of the invasion. Slick, huh?!

Incidentally our nations' police work a similar thing, using jurisdiction arguments, & they 'don't have the funds, manpower', 'it would turn the illegals against them', to enforce any laws re iillegal immigration which infers they might if they were sufficiently funded and the laws could be fixed so they would not be reaching to get into that enforcement. Here, you can see the 'trickle down' policy from the Washington politicians'/lobby money connection where again it's about the money, cheap labor or votes, not the fact we're being overrun, taken over, invaded. - forget that. Don't deal with or solve the problem directly, honestly, use it. If Washington sent the troops, the lobby money would dry up.

And, it's a little like letting a billing notice wait til penalties accrue, then billing a customer, taxpayer etc. Of course, New Mexico's problem is a thing of greater scale and treachery - much more significant, but you see the 'crooked' angle. As Tancredo says:"Follow the money". Talk about being on a slippery slope.

It's hard to imagine a more basic function of the government than to defend the borders against invasion.
