Barack Obama wants a global tax on the U.S.

From this:
A nice-sounding bill called the "Global Poverty Act," sponsored by Democratic presidential candidate and Senator Barack Obama, is up for a Senate vote on Thursday and could result in the imposition of a global tax on the United States. The bill, which has the support of many liberal religious groups, makes levels of U.S. foreign aid spending subservient to the dictates of the United Nations.

...The legislation would commit the U.S. to spending 0.7 percent of gross national product on foreign aid, which amounts to a phenomenal 13-year total of $845 billion over and above what the U.S. already spends.

...The legislation itself requires the President "to develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to further the United States foreign policy objective of promoting the reduction of global poverty, the elimination of extreme global poverty, and the achievement of the Millennium Development Goal of reducing by one-half the proportion of people worldwide, between 1990 and 2015, who live on less than $1 per day."

The bill defines the term "Millennium Development Goals" as the goals set out in the United Nations Millennium Declaration, General Assembly Resolution 55/2 (2000).
Senator Joe Biden is apparently trying to rush it through the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. The bill (S.2433) is here.

How generous. Do they forget that we have a multi-trillion-dollar deficit that's growing every day? And that it's going to be difficult to pay off now that the geniuses in charge have off-shored most of the U.S. middle-class manufacturing jobs and in-shored illegal aliens to work for cash at the few jobs that are left? Everything I see out of Obama's campaign these days sounds like it's written by either college kids who've never had to support themselves or limousine liberals who have zero idea what the blue collar working class has suffered through in recent years.

Hello, JinLA. You are quite correct. Follow LW's link and read the full text of S2433. There's a lot more than worldwide poverty that Obama wants America to foot the bill for. And the UN will be in charge of redistributing our money, (handling charges not included). I would be willing to bet S2433 has Ted Kennedy's fingerprints all over it.

He's just continuing the fine American tradition of politicians who've never done a day of wealth producing labor in their adult lives telling the rest of us what we ought to do with the wealth we produce. Not that I have in principle anything against helping people via foreign aid.

Here's a novel idea. To every Obama cheerleader who's so gung-ho about importing the entire third world into our now-foundering social safety net (free public education, free WIC for the American citzens they give birth to, social security for the dependants they chain migrate in): Run down to you local immigration office and cough up the dollars to legally sponsor an illegal immigrant to come to the U.S. Then come back and talk to me.
