One-sixteenth of a cheer for Barack Obama! For, back in 2006 he voted for an amendment that would prevent the federal government from spending any money on gun confiscation during a declared state of emergency. On the other hand, Hillary Clinton voted against it (i.e., on the gun grabbing side).
Details on the amendment that was added to HR 5441 here. Those joining Hillary on the wrong side included a constellation of worthies, such as Charles Schumer, Robert Menendez, Barbara Mikulski, Carl Levin, Teddy Kennedy, Daniel Akaka, Christopher Dodd, and the two prides of California, Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein.

One of its strongest opponents was Dick Durbin - Obama's fellow Illinoisan and the first senator to endorse his White House campaign.
During the debate, Durbin sharply reminded senators that the amendment would even bar police from seizing guns they believed to be used in previous crimes.
"What are we thinking?" Durbin, the Democrats' No 2 leader, asked. "Why would we do this to the men and women in law enforcement, to the National Guardsmen, or to innocent victims, which could be you or me or people we love, in a disaster they cannot even anticipate?"
