Donald Trump to terrorists: terrorism works

COVID-19 Response

Like everyone else, we urge you to wash your hands and engage in social distancing.

Unlike everyone else, we urge you to also help with this smart plan to get more tests, ventilators, and PPE. Everyone can do that plan right now, at home, in just 15 minutes.

If enough people help with the plan we can save lives. Take time out now and help get more desperately-needed supplies.

Donald Trump has said a lot of crazy things and proposed crazy policies that show he isn't qualified to be president. This tweet [1] is yet another example:

The American people are sick and tired of not being able to lead normal lives and to constantly be on the lookout for terror and terrorists!

First, as with many of the other things Trump says, that's not accurate: few Americans are cowering in fear as he describes.

Second and more importantly, statements like that help terrorists.

The goal of terrorism is (obviously) to terrorize people. Admitting you're terrorized is among the worst things you should do. Saying things like that helps ISIS, al Qaeda, and other terrorist groups: it sends the message that what they're doing is working.

Is it that Trump isn't capable of figuring that out? Or, is it that he can figure it out and he knows you shouldn't say such things, but his desire to scare people into supporting him is more important to him?

If elected, what would keep him from saying things like that and helping our enemies?

Also, see this for another example of Trump in effect helping terrorists.

7/14/16 UPDATE: Trump can't keep from acting like ISIS's PR department. In response to the terrorist attack in Nice, France, he tweeted (twitter . com/realDonaldTrump/status/753720863606775809):

Another horrific attack, this time in Nice, France. Many dead and injured. When will we learn? It is only getting worse.

It might and probably will get worse. However, leaders shouldn't say that out loud because it's what terrorists want to hear. Of course, Trump has never shown any political leadership.

Instead of blaming "we" for the problem, Trump could take action right now to reduce the threat. He simply lacks the smarts and patriotism to do it, as do his enablers.
