Reason Magazine libertarian cruise to be massively state-subsidized

Next year, Reason Magazine will be conducting a week-long cruise, complete with some of the "star" contributors of their publication on board and ready to dispense their "wisdom" (ad here: peekurl.com/v3dli5l). At post date, the only guests they have to announce are people who aren't even known by their dry cleaner's, but maybe as the big date approaches they'll announce very special guest appearances by the "stars" of the libertarian celebrity firmament, such as failed TV comics Drew Carey and Penn Jillette.

Reason Magazine - and libertarians in general - tend to conveniently forget all the externalities and other issues involved in what they promote, and in this case the price of the tickets - no matter what they are - won't reflect the full cost of the voyage. In other words, their libertarian voyage is going to be heavily subsidized, even if those unintelligent enough to be libertarians in the first place don't realize it. Here are some of the subsidies; please leave more in comments:

* One non-governmental subsidy is the very video they're using to promote the cruise. Did they obtain the rights to use that song and to create an ad based on that TV show? Where would they be if they couldn't use others' intellectual property?

* Shipbuilding wouldn't be where it is now without government - specifically military - funding. Advances in shipbuilding have come about because they were required for military purposes; commercial uses have piggybacked on those advances.

* Their entire trip will be protected by various navies and other armed forces: the Coast Guard, other countries' navies and coastal protection forces, etc.

* They'll no doubt be docking at public, not private facilities and taking advantage of a wide range of public facilities here and elsewhere.

* They'll be taking advantage of various government-sponsored navigation facilities such as GPS.

* They'll be taking advantage of government-sponsored weather reports and the like.

Feel free to leave additional ways that Reason will be taking advantage of the "statist" system in comments.
