Sen. Byron Dorgan moves to block Mexican trucks (NAFTA)
Posted Mon, Sep 10, 2007 at 11:18 am
From this:
Democratic Sen. Byron Dorgan plans to offer an amendment today that would block the controversial federal program allowing Mexican trucks to operate freely on roads across the U.S.9/11/07 UPDATE: Perhaps somewhat surprisingly, the amendment passed the Senate 74 to 24:
Barry Piatt, spokesman for the North Dakota senator, told WND the amendment to the Fiscal 2008 Department of Transportation appropriations bill essentially will say, "None of the funds made available under this Act may be used to establish or implement a cross-border motor carrier demonstration or pilot project or program to allow Mexico-domiciled motor carriers to operate beyond the commercial zones on the United States-Mexico border."
...Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, who drafted a Republican alternative to Dorgan's amendment, said the attempt to block the trucks appeared to be about limiting competition and may amount to discrimination against Mexico.
...Under NAFTA, Mexico can seek retaliation against the U.S. for failing to adhere to the treaty's requirements, including retaining tariffs on goods that the treaty eliminates, said Sidney Weintraub, a professor emeritus at the University of Texas LBJ School of Public Affairs in Austin.
John Hill, head of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, decried the vote saying it is "a sad victory for the politics of fear and protectionism."...

didn't Dorgan vote for the NAFTA? And if you think that this government can stop this BS With third world trucks from coming in by the millions each year, you must be a total fool, this so called government is told what to do how to act and right now its being told what to say to you, Dorgan is just a player and acting out his part for the real power people.

If only there were an electable candidate for President like this guy. Instead, we are left with an immigration Hohson's choice among the media's proclaimed contenders from both parties. Except Romney if you knew he would live up to his rhetoric.

Immigration report cards: Dorgan [1] , Tancredo [2]. If you can get past the party affiliation, and the media's "he's not electable" mantra, Tancredo is the hands down choice for any invasion opponent.

Tanstaafl, I do not see how Tancredo can get on the Republican ticket in 2008. Duncan Hunter or Bilray however seem to me to be at least possible in not essential Vice Presidential choices for a successful ticket. Like I have been saying if the wave of corruption and Gay outing scandals continue to rock the Republican House and Senate leadership, an entire new 2008 class of tough immigration restrictionist could be elected. Many of these legislators will be looking up to guys like Tancredo and or Hunter. In that case it would be very tough to keep them out of the higher levels of House leadership. Keeping Tancredo in the House may be the best place for him.

orlandocajun, Actually there are lots of folks like me. If you really want to make an impact don't just post comment here at a website that is, while important, is preaching to the choir. Go to the major liberal websites like Daily Kos, Eschaton, Hullabaloo, Thinkprogess, MyDD, Firedoglake, Huffington Post.... and raise hell there as well. As you notice most of them are now scared Sh*tless to even touch Immigration related issues because of the firestorm that tend to errupt. Let everybody you can know that the vast majority of Democrats do not buy into the Open Borders propaganda. Oh, one more thing, join NumbersUSA.

The mainstream media will NOT even let you consider either Duncan Hunter, Tancredo or Paul...They will shut them out , just like they did Nader years ago. TIP-OFF Whoever pulls in the most money is the one to vote AGAINST...because you can be sure they are propped up by Corporate Creeps and special interests like Soros...so if they make money they are promising PAYBACK! It's a stocky wicket...Altho Tancredo boasts his money is raised by individual small donations from the PEOPLE!!And that makes his Millions more worthwhile than Hillary or Obamas cache....believe you mean...Frankly I don't want either oprah or George Soros deciding which direction my country will go in....another demerit for John McCain!!!-Otherwise known as "Toast"

orlandocajun, Really now??? How about asking the Lonewacko himself about the effect a handful of dedicated, intelligent, relentless, thick skinned and rational folks can have on impacting public opinion through the blogs. He has been at for how many years on the Republican side??? Roy Beck took how many years to get the Independent and Democratic dominated NumbersUSA off the ground? The Lou Dobbs Tonight show took three long years to become the ratings force it is today. Just a year ago, you would have found almost nobody on the left side of the netroots who was willing to call into question the orthodox support for Open Borders. I will give you one examples how one lone poster can change the terms of the debate. http://digbysblog.blogspot.com/2007/06/theyre-different-from-us-by-digby-i.html And yes it is much harder to do the samething on the Democratic side. Why, because the closeminded PC goon squad will have a hissing fit and call you a racist for even using the term Illegal Alien. And here is my contribution today. http://digbysblog.blogspot.com/2007/09/ted-olson-and-quantification-of-poultry.html Here is an example of the same PC Multiculturalist crowd gone wild when there is almost nobody around to tell them just how ignorant self rightous and narrow minded they are http://digbysblog.blogspot.com/2007/08/brown-is-new-black-by-digby-ive-been.html
