Why do I bother?

First of all, I'd like to thank the 150 or so people who voted for this site in its Weblog Awards category. Unfortunately, this site ended up in seventh place with 5.42% of the vote.
Obviously, that's not that good, especially considering that I've been a bit of a pioneer of the medium. And, I continue to cover the illegal immigration scam, something that most other bloggers - especially the major ones - ignore. Now, obviously, occasionally calling people names, working to discredit others, not playing well with other bloggers, not being a sycophant, not being a partisan hack, etc. etc. does tend to take its toll.
Nevertheless, I shall persevere. For you, my reader.

Here's one possibility: your blog has very few readers. I counted a total of 6 responses to the posts on your front page. If that few people want to talk about what you're saying, I doubt many are going to take the time to vote in order to support what you're saying.
Something odd does seem to happening to your blog: even Ralph and Fred Dawes have disappeared. Other bloggers say that pictures of naked women always create a spike in traffic.

Nice use of hyperbole and invective on the H&R blog to drum up some readership, by the way. Given that I'm pretty sure I'm the only one who responded to one of your posts and I also appear to be the only one to post any comments on your blog I'd say it wasn't a rousing success. Keep it up, though. Discussions at H&R are more fun when there's a diversity of opinion.

i love your website; i read it at least twice a week and have put all my friends on to it as well. a portion of my ethnicity derives from mexico and i know it is very hard to get people behind this issue. the problem is that people make a visceral reaction to immigration, usually embodied in the argument "how can you fault a destitute person who is just trying to feed their kids and find a better life?" just like we saw in the tookie williams debate, emotive reactions to these issues (either for or against) are rarely the most logical.
while the above-referenced argument is strong on a idealistic level, the problem is that eventually our hospitals shut down, our schools become underfunded and conditions in general gravitate toward sheer mediocrity. if everyone operated according to the premise of that argument, the mechanics of our organized society would shut down. how is this any different than arguing in favor of selling drugs or robbing a bank in order to feed your children?
when my grandfather came here at the beginning of the 20th century with nothing to his name (legally, mind you, and during the revolution), it is not surprising that his strong work ethic and eventual mastery of the english language had made him a very successful and respected man within a decade.
this ideal has passed most by in this day and age. a moral hazard has been created whereby everyone is trying to pick at the flesh of american prosperity with no regard as to the common good. pretty soon the carcass will be devoured, and so to will be our current age of prosperity.
until people like vicente fox become concerned with improving the conditions in their own country (which is replete with natural resources and a strong-willed populace), rather than leaching off the resources of others, nothing will improve the current situation. in a sense, it is a purely economic phenomenon, and I place as much blame on a destitute migrant worker as I do the large american corporations that give them perfect incentive to come here. If they didn

Hell, I voted for you multiple times. Like you, my blog is centered around illegal immigration and I came in 4th from the bottom. I guess people like to bitch about illegal immigration, but when it comes down to it don't really give a crap.

The truth is rarely popular. Even the 48th Dist voters choked and failed to elect Gilchrist-it should have been a landslide.
