I hate Vancouver too

Both Vancouvers: the one in Washington state, and - but much more so - the one in Canada. Visiting the latter city was a bit too disorienting an experience for me. In fact, it was almost like visiting a foreign country.

If you're not yet a V-Town hater, this report might make you change your mind. Warning: not for those with weak constitutions.

I absolutely despise Vancouver, Canada. I am a Canadian, I have lived in many places in Canada, from east to west and north to south, and I must say that of all the places I've been, Vancouver is the absolute worst.

It's dirty. Seriously, it's a really dirty city. I mean, you go to some places - the touristy places- and superficially it looks nice and clean. Then you go around the wrong corner and it's a freakin' pig sty.

It's boring. There is nothing to do in Vancouver! There is no history, the beaches are crowded and suck, the restaurants are mediocre and there isn't that much of a variety unless you like Chinese, Japanese and Korean. The museums are lame, the night life is blah and unoriginal. Seriously, there is nothing fun to do here.

The people are rude. This was the biggest shocker. I can't even begin to express how amazed I was when I went into a hotel or a restaurant or any public place and was treated like something less than human. I'm going to stop right now before I get going to much one this point... Let me just say that I'm yet to meet ONE polite and kind person from Vancouver. AND I'VE LIVED THERE! Seriously, they've ALL been assholes. (Unlike in other major Canadian cities, like Montreal for example, where I found the people to be both kind, and helpful)

I could go on and on as to why I hate Vancouver, but I'll stop now because it's already to long and drawn out.

I lived in Vancouver for over 6 months, and after 6 months I absolutely had to leave. I visited on occasion before that and after, thinking maybe I just had a bad time of it. Everytime I visit Vancouver, trying desperately to convince myself maybe there was something wrong with me, I just find the same things over and over and over. Dirty, boring and rude. As near as I can tell, there is nothing redeeming about the place.

I was born there 60 years ago, and lived there for about 20 years. I absolutley agree with you. The people are, generally, AWFUL. Pinched up, tedious, very unfriendly, even many I've known for over 50 years. And neurotic as hell. I don't know who thses HICKS think they are -- I mean, it's not a very important North American city is it, compared to Seattle, for example? -- but they are mousy, remote, irritable, class-conscious, and IGNORANT. Snobbery at all levels. The skyline is pretty in places, but hardly inspiring; the buildings all seem like little MODELS of full-sized structures in real cities. Dirty? Yes, always has been. Particularly restaurant washrooms. And speaking of washrooms, why isn't there one in the main Skybus station, downtown?! Typical Vancouver -- selfish, self-righteous, prissy ... squalid.

OK so it's not just me then. Why do so many people there get offended if you criticize the city? Thank you for saying what's on your mind about Vancouver. Basically, it's a bunch of hillbillies who move out to the "west coast" and think they've "made it" because they have the mildest winters in Canada. Still cold folks!!!
