Barack Obama misleads, smears Middle America
Speaking in San Francisco at a fundraiser for the wealthy (and in Marin County no less; pictures of his tour here), Barack Obama smeared Pennsylvanians and others by saying:
"You go into some of these small towns in Pennsylvania, and like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them. And they fell through the Clinton administration, and the Bush administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not. So it's not surprising then that they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."
While much could be said, here's a video covering just part of the immigration and trade comments; script after the video (9/29/13 UPDATE: Video is now embedded below):
Among other things, Obama was being misleading regarding "anti-immigrant sentiment". For instance, the town of Hazleton PA passed an ordinance called the "Illegal Immigration Relief Act". That ordinance was designed only to reduce *illegal* immigration in that town. The mayor and other backers made it clear that it wasn't intended to affect legal immigrants.
Despite what Obama thinks, not too many people are against all immigrants or even against illegal aliens personally. Obama is simply trying to smear those opposed to illegal immigration as "anti-immigrant" because, as he's made clear time and again, he supports illegal immigration.
As for "anti-trade sentiment", Obama recently came out in support of Bush's "Security and Prosperity Partnership" (spp . gov), a scheme to "harmonize" regulations among the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. It's been called "NAFTA on steroids", and many feel it could be a precursor to some form of North American Union comprising the three countries.
The SPP has been shrouded in secrecy and has been pushed without Congressional oversight. Freedom of Information Act requests have had to be filed in order to obtain even basic information about the scheme. No wonder that when Obama came out in support of that Bush scheme he spoke in code.
UPDATE: Obama has since "explained" his remarks, one of the latest including this:
People say they feel like no one is paying attention or listening to them and that is something – that is one of the reasons I am running for president.
And, that's one of the reasons why he's attempting to smear legitimate concerns over the massive illegal activity that he supports as "anti-immigrant sentiments". Please, Obama, keep explaining yourself, it's getting better and better.

from swimming freestyle: "Barack Obama is a remarkably eloquent man and turning into a remarkably capable politician. But if the Senator believes it's smart to insult voters from a state critical to your success, he's hit one of the worst false notes yet in his campaign. Yeah, I know what his campaign said, and that may have been what he meant. But a sophisticated candidate doesn't refer to voters in language that can be construed as derogatory or insulting. Obama asserted Pennsylvania voters are bitter and so simple and lacking in maturity and intelligence that they address their frustration by clinging to primitive and reactionary crutches rather than addressing their problems in constructive ways. It's divisive. And not the way to attract the voters you need most." http://swimmingfreestyle.typepad.com

_But a sophisticated candidate doesn't refer to voters in language that can be construed as derogatory or insulting._ Saying that people who don\'t like immigration are mean in spirit or intellect is nothing knew. [1] It's part of feeling morally superior, in that politically correct way. Obama is a one of those guys who's never had a real job his whole life.

eh and jay McDonough its ok to insult whites inside this non nation and the fact is now Obama and McCain and hillary who want the mass outsourcing of this nation and someday the real outsourcing of our milliary is being missed by all, what you hear are all things are lies and hate and all of our government are being played by the one world people. all you see is a lie all you hear are words by evil people wanting to play by other rules and the real issue is, "do you want to live under your enemies foot"? By the way all small towns inside the former usa are becoming homes for the third world drug dealers just, look you will see the total replacment of the population one by one and the big cities are now under the control of our foreign enemies. the only way to stop your enemy is the old way with force of arms and a will of the people not to be Dominated by others who hate you for your culture and your ideals. if you do nothing but watch you will someday soon live in total turmoil and bedlam will be your world. that is what Obama wants above all other things is your world under his foot.

I oppose _all_ immigration. And I oppose it because progressivist-globalists (like Obama) use it as a weapon against me, my family, and my race.

Tanstaaf| thank you and that is not intolerance its a fact just look at La Raza statements about race and the other people who are now here and do you know what can happen if any 3 get into office and what can happen to you? most people think that is BS Just look around at the big cities and litlle towns that once had 10 or 20 percent black or hispanics and now are places that you would have your head cut off if you walked down a public sidewalk. ask what will happen when 100 million little brown brothers show up in the next 10 years with mass amnesty that all 3 little pigs want. hillary loves mexico she supports mexico and the third world McCain needs mexico and for his money boys. Barack Obama also needs the third world, all his black fellows needs him and he loves his ethnic groups out of africa and hates whites and need to fight the hispanics just like in L.A. Yes its going to be fun in the coming years and sad to say most of the whites will be out of work also in the coming years of mass ethnic tsunami to come will places you all under the foot of the third world. most of your kids male and female will become prison bitchs for political reasons, just watch and have fun kids. Buy Guns and start to think of how to build a new nation under laws and not monkeys.

'Despite what Obama thinks, not too many people are against all immigrants or even against illegal aliens personally.' Which is worse? Being disingenuous and sleazily smearing or actually thinking everyone with a concern about immigration is a scapegoater, racist, cretin, etc.? It's policy, not personal. Are their policy positions so weak that they feel their best tactic is make it all personal? Apparently yes.

Here is a little clarity on what was said, although I think it wont matter these posts seem to be seathing with hostility and anger. He said people vote on issues such as guns and immigration and find refuge in religion because their economic situation goes unchanged for decades... He didn't say eloquently that I will give you but if you find other people who were at the fundraiser speak on what he said you will get the whole story. And btw, those weren't billionares at the fundraiser either. This story has been totally blown out of proportion.
