E-Verify delayed pending "review" until April, May 2009

From this:
A notice published Friday in the Federal Registrar confirms that a program that would require federal contractors to ensure that their employees are legally authorized to work in the U.S. will be postponed by 90 days. The E-Verify system, an electronic internet-based system that enables employers to compare the names and Social Security numbers of new employees against a government database, won't become mandatory until May 21. According to the registrar, the postponement of the rule occurs "in order to permit the new administration an adequate opportunity to review the rule."

Another rule concerning changes to employer verification of a person's employment eligibility will be delayed until April 3. On Monday, all U.S. employers were to begin using a revised version of the so-called Form I-9, which is used to verify the identity and authorization to work in the U.S. of all newly hired workers. Delaying the implementation of the rule by 60 days will allow employers to continue to accept a wider range of documents -- including documents that have expired -- as proof of work eligibility.

The Open Borders lobby knows that many state legislatures are considering mandatory E-Verify legislation for all state business along the lines of Arizona and and Oklahoma. This move by the Obama administration will be seized upon by Open Borders forces and their allies in the MSM at the state level to argue against using E-Verify. The BS will be that E-Verify is not ready for mass use and may hurt business hiring during a deepening recession. This is exactly the tactic being used here in Central Indiana by the Gannett owned Indianapolis Star. However, folks are not buying it. Last year the Star went all out to provide cover for pro-open borders crooks in both parties including Governor Mitch Daniels. The leadership in both parties sabotaged legislation overwhelmingly supported by the rank and file legislators in both the Indiana House and Senate and the vast majority of Hoosiers. Our friends and neighbors are furious at the Star and are canceling their subscriptions. I simply do not know why there is not a mass campaign by the immigration reform movement to boycott Gannett and force them into bankruptcy,
