Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL)

U.S. Representative of Illinois; Democrat; a vile but buffoonish racial demagogue and very strong supporter of illegal immigration; born in Chicago of Puerto Rican descent. Assuming that he'll put his own interests and the interests of Latinos far ahead of the interests of the U.S. as a whole is usually a very safe bet.

* Just recently, he's warned about civil disobedience without amnesty, and even spoke out against an enforcement action in Arizona against a human smuggling operation.

* Has advanced various amnesties (2004, 2007 with Jeff Flake, and 2009). He laughed about one of the provisions of the Flake amnesty being just a "symbolic gesture".

* In August 2008, he called DHS agents "Gestapo agents"

* In 2006, he tried to get Illinois to give home loans to illegal aliens, with a better interest rate than veterans got.

* Recipient of one of Mexico's highest awards for foreigners.

* Has held events and tours promoting amnesty.

* In 2006, he used the "gringo" slur against Tom Tancredo.

* He and Rep. Joe Baca wrote an editorial demanding a moratorium on immigration raids in "our communities".

* In 2007, he was to meet with Mexican officials to discuss amnesty.

* He supports "a common land, language, life and history, which translates into a common culture", but he said that referring to Puerto Rico.

* He spoke at the National Immigrant Rights Strategy Convention; one of the major conveners of that event was Jorge Mujica, an official with Mexico's PRD party.

* He spoke at the March 10 Chicago pro-illegal immigration march (Thousands Flood Loop In Protest); Mujica was also one of the organizers of that rally through the March 10 Committee.

Affiliation: Democratic Party

Democrats, far-left praise Marco Rubio's immigration moves (NCLR; Sharry; IPC; Obama and Gutierrez spox) - 01/20/13

In a January 18, 2013 press release, Marco Rubio lists some of the supposed conservatives who support his immigration amnesty plan ( peekURL.com/zycdzeU ). To be balanced, here are some positive mentions of his plan (or at least support for his actions on comprehensive immigration reform) from those Rubio should be opposing on immigration: the Democrats and the far-left.

Rep. Luis Gutierrez (see the link) has turned on his former associate Rep. Jeff Flake. Back in 2007, they sponsored the STRIVE Act immigration amnesty together. Nowadays, Gutierrez has this to say ( peekURL.com/zDJbt32 ):

Immigrants' List are immigration lawyers; Daniel Strauss and Huffington Post don't reveal that (Immigration Heroes List) - 01/17/12

Immigrants List is a pro-massive immigration PAC that recently named their list of top 10 immigration heroes [1], i.e., those who support massive and/or illegal immigration. One man's hero is another man's villain, and in the case of their Heroes all are villains to most Americans who oppose massive and/or illegal immigration.

Obama's mini-amnesty is so bad Luis Gutierrez supports it - 08/31/11

How bad is Obama's mini-amnesty that would cover up to (and maybe more than) 300,000 illegal aliens? Bad enough to win the support of Rep. Luis Gutierrez (see the link).

Dozens of pro-illegal immigration groups were invited to Obama's mini-amnesty rollout and you weren't - 08/25/11

On August 18, Barack Obama's Department of Homeland Security announced an administrative amnesty that could cover 300,000 or more illegal aliens.

Luis Gutierrez: "I have only one loyalty, and that's to the immigrant community" (+the Hispanic MLK; Sharry; Munoz; Jacoby) - 11/30/10

Arian Campo Flores of Newsweek offers a puffball article about U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez called "Keeping Obama to His Word" [1]. Rather than calling him on his clear ethnic nationalism or his many questionable statements and actions (see his name's link), Campo-Flores concentrates on whether Gutierrez' aggressive tactics are a liability or not for getting comprehensive immigration reform (amnesty) and the anti-American DREAM Act. Campos-Flores is such an amnesty-supporting hack that he uses the phrase "law-abiding illegal immigrants". And, in the article Gutierrez says this: I have only one...

Luis Gutierrez' CIR ASAP amnesty has 100+ co-sponsors (Honda, Polis, Weiner, Serrano) - 06/24/10

U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez conducted yet another pro-comprehensive immigration reform event today, this in support of his CIRASAP ("Comprehensive Immigration Reform for America's Security and Prosperity Act") amnesty. It's reached the milestone of over 100 co-sponsors, and per this those speaking in support included Reps. Barbara Lee, Anthony Weiner, and Jared Polis; Campus Progress (part of the Center for American Progress); and the quite far-left Casa de Maryland. And: (Rep. Mike Honda), standing next to a young girl, asked the room if it was right to deny her the American Dream because,...

Luis Gutierrez threatens to discourage Latino voting unless amnesty; says there might be civil disobedience - 04/20/10

From this: (Rep. Luis Gutierrez) is threatening that he will urge Latino voters to stay home this November if the Democratic Party does not make a concerted effort to pass comprehensive immigration reform. ..."We can stay home," Gutierrez said in an interview with The Hill. "We can say, 'You know what? There is a third option: We can refuse to participate.'" ...[Gutierrez] speaks of “anger, disillusionment, dissatisfaction” and “betrayal” [when talking about Obama]. He says Obama has failed to keep his campaign commitment to immigration reform, and he decries what he calls an “enforcement-...

Luis Gutierrez *complains* about Arizona human trafficking sweep - 04/17/10

Rep. Luis Gutierrez offers "Obama Must Act To Ease Arizona's Deportation Panic" (link), showing for the millionth or so time that the far-left has little or no interest in immigration enforcement. The far-left is strongly behind comprehensive immigration reform, something that would supposedly contain increased enforcement. Yet, they support that part of "reform" in completely bad faith: if "reform" passes they'd oppose any enforcement it mandates just as they do now, leading to an eventual repeat of the current situation. After hyperventilating against an Arizona bill that isn't even law yet...

Hispanic leader promises civil disobedience without amnesty; Harold Meyerson helps (Casa de Maryland) - 03/17/10

Discussing March 21's big illegal immigration march, Washington Post columnist Harold Meyerson says (link):

Details on CIR ASAP amnesty: as bad as you'd expect, Part 1 - 12/15/09

This post has excerpts from the first part of the outline of the "Comprehensive Immigration Reform for America's Security and Prosperity Act of 2009" (amnesty) that was unveiled today by Luis Gutierrez. The backstory and more details are here.

Read about CIR ASAP: "Comprehensive Immigration Reform for America's Security and Prosperity Act of 2009" (Luis Gutierrez) - 12/11/09

[A DISCUSSION OF SOME OF THE PROVISIONS IS HERE, AND MORE UPDATES ARE BELOW] On Tuesday, December 15, 2009 Rep. Luis Gutierrez will introduce an amnesty bill called the "Comprehensive Immigration Reform for America's Security and Prosperity Act of 2009". His announcement (luisgutierrez.house.gov/PRArticle.aspx?NewsID=1406) provides no details, however: 1. Details on the bill will be provided here when it becomes available; expect it to be a bit on the far-left side and expect it to not go very far, except perhaps if it's watered down. In the latter case it might present a problem. 2. The way...

Luis Gutierrez' bogus "hire Americans first" amnesty provision - 11/27/09

Rep. Luis Gutierrez will supposedly introduce a comprehensive immigration reform bill shortly, and he's already released a summary of one of the provisions. Per this, he said his bill will include: "language that guarantees that no American citizen, no one born in the United States of America, will ever lose a job opportunity to someone who is foreign born." 1. This is "boob bait for Bubba", a showy trinket designed to distract Americans from his massive amnesty. 2. I believe this would violate the Constitution, in that native born citizens and naturalized citizens would be treated...

Gutierrez unveils immigration "reform" bill principles at Washington DC rally (RI4A, CHC,NCIC,religious leaders) - 10/13/09

Earlier today, supporters of comprehensive immigration reform held a rally in Washington DC. Rep. Luis Gutierrez (Chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Immigration Task Force) laid out outlines of a bill he'll supposedly be introducing later this year. The specifics aren't known but it will be very lax and probably won't include the "symbolic gestures" from the bill he co-authored with Jeff Flake. Others attending were Nydia Velazquez (Chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus) and Mike Honda (Chair of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus). Per Ian Urbina of the New York...

Yesterday, Barack Obama met with various members of Congress to discuss comprehensive immigration reform. His remarks are at [1], a list of attendees is at [2], and some quotes from attendees is at [3]. Nothing very important appears to have happened or been said.

Immigration strawman arguments about: civil rights abuses, 287g, family separation, "stateless" children, alternative detention, eVerify - 05/09/09

Rep. Lamar Smith offers "Amnesty Pushers Concoct Six Straw Men" (link), a collection of logical fallacies that illegal immigration supporters use. The points raised aren't of much use unless those supporters - such as nationally-known politicians - are confronted with them, and if you can do that on video that could have a serious impact on those supporters' careers. It includes a section about family separation, specifically referencing Luis Gutierrez' "Family Unity Tour" and including this: But he [the strawman] forgets that children can travel to their parents’ home countries with them....

David Montgomery /WaPo: nearly no real reporting in Luis Gutierrez puff piece - 05/08/09

David Montgomery of the Washington Post offers a five-screen puff piece (link) on far-left amnesty supporter Rep. Luis Gutierrez and his recent "Family Unity Tour" that completely fails to call him on his many disreputable statements, such as the time he called ICE agents "Gestapo agents". The article fails to call Gutierrez on the many huge flaws in the comprehensive immigration reform that he supports. This is the only part of the article that discusses actual policy: Gutierrez and his allies generally define immigration reform to include an end to workplace raids and deportations that...

DHS "Domestic Extremism Lexicon" includes wider range of groups - 05/01/09

Just before the more famous "rightwing extremism" report, the Department of Homeland Security also released a "Domestic Extremism Lexicon" that defines a wide range of left, right, and elsewhere groups. You can download a copy from here, and the DHS says it was pulled for an unnamed reason shortly after it was released. Among those groups and movements defined are "anti-immigration extremism": A movement of groups or individuals who are vehemently opposed to illegal immigration, particularly along the U.S. southwest border with Mexico, and who have been known to advocate or engage in criminal...

Corporation for Public Broadcasting screens pro-illegal immigration film on Capitol Hill ("Made in L.A.") - 04/24/09

Earlier today, the pro-illegal immigration movie "Made in L.A." was screened on Capitol Hill for various politicians and others; a list is at [1]. Not only were those who are public servants wasting time watching movies on the U.S.'s dime, but the further involvement of PBS cranks it up a notch: Senior Vice President of Television Content at the Corporation For Public Broadcasting Ted Garcia highlighted the story and mission of Made in L.A. and acknowledged the many partners that came together to make the film possible: "Made in L.A. highlights some of the reasons why public service media is...

Luis Gutierrez pushing "loophole-riddled" payday lending bill after receiving donations from industry - 04/10/09

From this: Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.), who heads the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit, is pushing a loophole-riddled bill that would allow payday lenders to charge annual interest rates of nearly 400 percent - a proposal widely condemned by consumer advocates and some liberal Democrats, who want to put payday lenders out of business altogether... Gutierrez wasn’t always so kind to the industry. In 2006, he supported the successful effort that effectively banned payday loans to members of the military by capping interest rates for those...

Andrew Rosenthal /NYT melting down: lies about opponents; defends MALDEF; wrong about Saenz? - 03/23/09

Andrew Rosenthal - editorial page editor of the New York Times - continues his slow-motion melt-down in "Obama Flinches on Immigration" (link).

Obama meets with Congressional Hispanic Caucus over immigration "reform"; trip to Mexico; public forum - 03/18/09

Earlier today, Barack Obama met with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus to discuss comprehensive immigration reform. The White House statement is at [1]; an AFP report is here; content-free statements from Luis Gutierrez and Deepak Bhargava of the Center for Community Change are at [2]. So far nothing that shocking or newsworthy has emerged; both Obama and the CHC are strong supporters of giving an amnesty and other benefits to illegal aliens. The only question is how much Obama is willing to push it and when. The two points below indicate that a push might begin in April although whether he...

Nancy Pelosi: immigration enforcement separating families is "un-American" (Luis Gutierrez, Kelly Zito) - 03/08/09

Kelly Zito of the San Francisco Chronicle offers a heavily-biased, untrustworthy article ("Pelosi: End raids splitting immigrant families", link) about yesterday's "National Family Unity" event in San Francisco. That's part of a national tour designed to press for comprehensive immigration reform that's sponsored by the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and led by Luis Gutierrez. Because Zito doesn't provide full quotes and because she doesn't even once use the word "illegal" or even "undocumented", it's not clear just how stupid the remarks from Nancy Pelosi were: "Our future is about our...

Luis Gutierrez' "National Family Unity Tour" to pull heartstrings in support of illegal immigration; ask him a question - 02/25/09

Rep. Luis Gutierrez is conducting a nationwide tour where he and his friends will be visiting churches and conducting townhall meetings from coast to coast to push for comprehensive immigration reform.

Luis Gutierrez: Obama told me to tell you he supports immigration "reform"; amnesty supporters heartened - 12/19/08

Teresa Watanabe of the Los Angeles Times offers "Immigration-overhaul supporters hope their hour has come/With Obama in office, a sympathetic Cabinet and more Democrats in Congress, supporters hope to revive a reform package next year. But the economic downturn sparks worry about protecting U.S. workers" (link). She quotes various "immigrant advocates" who think that the Obama win will mean that comprehensive immigration reform is more likely. In fact: In a national teleconference Thursday, Rep. (Luis Gutierrez) (D-Ill.), said Obama had asked him to relay that he remains committed to a...

Luis Gutierrez made $420,000 on real estate deals with political contributors (FBI involved) - 12/08/08

U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez made $420,000 on a series of speculative real estate deals, some involving political contributor and Chicago real estate developer Krzysztof Karbowski. And, the FBI is at least looking into some of Gutierrez' past activities: Gutierrez sent a letter to Mayor Richard Daley seeking support for a controversial project built by one of the congressman's political donors who also had lent him money. The newspaper reported that federal authorities investigating zoning matters have shown interest in the Gutierrez letter... The FBI has obtained the letter Gutierrez wrote in...

Luis Gutierrez will push Obama to pass immigration "reform", calls for end to immigration raids (Joe Baca) - 12/05/08

From this: Flanked by hundreds of immigrants and their family members, an Illinois congressman called for a halt Thursday to immigration raids and vowed to push for a comprehensive overhaul that President-elect Barack Obama can sign into law. Democratic Rep. Luis Gutierrez of Chicago, the House sponsor of a 2007 bill that failed, told a crowd of more than 200 on Capitol Hill that he would work to ensure that Mr. Obama follows through on his campaign promise to sign an immigration overhaul in the first year of his presidency. Presumably many or most of those "immigrants" were actually...

"Tour of the Faithful": Catholic Church, others try to change immigration laws (America's Voice) - 09/13/08

In September and October, the Catholic Church and others will be holding interfaith events [1] across the U.S. designed to support "comprehensive immigration reform", aka amnesty. This "Tour of the Faithful" (catholicsinalliance.org/node/20123) was apparently organized with the help of Frank Sharry's America's Voice [2] and includes an appearance by former president Jimmy Carter and many others [3]. On October 13 they'll be holding a forum featuring unnamed Illinois politicians; one of those will probably be Luis Gutierrez. If you want to do something about this, go to one of their events and...

Agriprocessors supervisor pleads guilty - 08/21/08

In May, the Agriprocessors plant in Postville, Iowa was raided by Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Now, from this: A former supervisor at Agriprocessors, the Postville meatpacking plant that was the location of the nation’s largest single-site immigration raid, accepted a deal and pleaded guilty in federal court Wednesday afternoon. Juan Carlos Guerrero-Espinoza, 35, has been convicted of one count of conspiracy to hire illegal aliens and one count of aiding and abetting the hiring of illegal aliens. A date for sentencing has not yet been set. Court documents filed Aug. 19 indicate...

Immigration march organizers have foreign links - 08/15/08

1. One of the organizers of the March 24 Georgia boycott was Teodoro Maus, a former Mexican consul general. He was also one of the organizers of the October 7 Atlanta march. That march was led by GA state Senator Sam Zamarripa and GA state representative Pedro Marin, both members of the Democratic Party.

Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) calls DHS agents "Gestapo agents" (Gebe Martinez/Politico) - 08/07/08

Alleged U.S. Representative Luis Gutierrez - Democrat from Illinois - is quoted in the article "Push needed for immigration reform" (politico . com/news/stories/0808/12321.html) by ethnocentric hack reporter Gebe Martinez as saying:

Luis Gutierrez, Joe Baca don't want federal enforcement in "their" communities - 08/06/08

Putative U.S. Reps. Luis Gutierrez and Joe Baca offer an editorial called "Mr. President, stop your raids on our communities" (link). Discussing everything wrong with it would take too long, but: 1. What exactly does "our communities" mean? I'm pretty sure they aren't referring to the localities they represent, but have something more ethnic nationalistic in mind.
