Arizona Democratic Party, Russell Pearce, and "Operation Wetback" - 09/29/06

The sleazy Arizona Democratic Party is up to its old tricks again, this time trying to smear Rep. Russell Pearce (R-AZ) over his reference to Eisenhower's "Operation Wetback" on a radio program. From their press release titled Pearce Resurrects "Operation Wetback" and subtitled Russell Pearce Longs for Pre-Civil Rights Era Immigration Program: In an interview on KJZZ Wednesday, Republican legislator Russell Pearce called for the reinstatement of Eisenhower's 1953 immigration plan, "Operation Wetback." Spanish news agency EFE has apologized for its smear of Arizona gubanatorial candidate Don Goldwater. It said he wanted to hold illegal aliens in "concentration camps". Now they say: EFE Executive Vice President Emillio Sanchez said a freelance writer for the news agency inaccurately described Goldwater's plan. "Upon further reflection, our investigation has determined that your plan to house illegal prisoners in a tent city is consistent with accepted practices for nonviolent American prisoners in your area," Sanchez said in the letter released Tuesday by Goldwater's campaign. The...

Don Goldwater's "concentration camps": a setup by illegal immigration supporters - 06/23/06

Arizona gubanatorial candidate Don Goldwater has received well-deserved condemnation of his calls for "concentration camps" for illegal aliens from such stalwart Americans as John McCain (R-AZ) and Jim Kolbe (R-AZ). However, there's just one problem: Goldwater didn't call for "concentration camps"; that phrase came from the state-run Spanish news agency EFE when reporting on his comments. The original article is at efe.es/includesasp/noticias.asp?opcion=4&id=1225615. Their report reads like something from a tabloid TV show that engages in highly selective editing: Proponen campos de...

Arizona libertarians collaborating with Mexican government official - 04/13/06

From this: The marchers in the Immigration Rally in Phoenix, Arizona, will get some unexpected information during their protest outside the state capitol on Monday. Along with the many leaflets and flyers promoting one agenda or another, many of them received little cards, introducing them to the concepts of libertarianism, free society and open borders, in a sort of "reverse reconquista" maneuver.

Arizona Republic almost does expose on Western Union - 03/19/06

Chris Hawley of the AZ Republic offers the somewhat surprising article "Wire firm a force in debate over immigration". It's surprising because in a rare move for the AZ Republic it comes close to reporting the actual truth. They come close to implying that Western Union and their parent company First Data are profiting off illegal immigration, are encouraging illegal immigration, and are corrupting our political system. ...In recent years, Denver-based First Data has openly campaigned for immigration reform, which could legalize millions of undocumented workers, and has created a $10...

Arizona hospitals to get reimbursed a fraction of money spent on illegal alien healthcare; employers will not be charged - 07/23/04

The Feds are giving Arizona hospitals $42 million a year for four years to help reimburse the costs of (free) healthcare for illegal aliens (kvoa.com/Global/story.asp?S=2080392). In the past year, the University Medical Center in Tucson lost ten times that amount providing free healthcare for illegal aliens. The employers of those illegal aliens could not be reached for comment, as they were on their way to the bank.

Glenn Spencer, taking the high ground? - 04/06/03

According to this: Chris Simcox, founder of the Tombstone-based Civil Homeland Defense group, and Glenn Spencer, who leads the Sierra Vista-based American Border Patrol, have long disagreed over style and approach to deterring illegal entrants. Spencer said his group aims to document and report illegal immigrants by using video cameras and other surveillance. In contrast, Simcox describes his group as a "militia," and he leads armed volunteers on patrols near the border. A recent statement by Simcox has served to incite bickering between the two men. Simcox issued this warning as part of a "...
