Catch-and-release "stopped"; White House to pimp Pence massive illegal alien amnesty

Yesterday DHS Secretary Michael Chertoff claimed that nearly all non-Mexican illegal aliens were being returned to their home countries and that "catch-and-release" had been stopped. Under C&R non-Mexicans who were caught were given notices to appear and released into the U.S. Almost all of them, of course, never bothered to show up.

That resulted in, for instance, "45,000 from terror-linked countries released into U.S." and "70% of OTMs detained [in 2005] were released into the U.S." and "Other-than-Mexicans give themselves up to get released into the U.S."

I have no way of verifying whether Chertoff is telling the truth or not, but based on his past actions and statements I tend to suspect that there's something that he's not telling us.

And, if you're looking for a reason why they might have done (or claimed to have done) this, see "White House to back Pence reform bill":
The White House plans [today] to make a show of support for Rep. Mike Pence's proposed immigration compromise, which has been criticized by some conservatives as another form of amnesty.

Washington sources told WND the Bush administration will send to the Texas border Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff; Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchinson, R-Texas; and Pence, R-Ind., for a press conference.

The White House intends to make a push to get some form of immigration reform passed by the Senate and House so President Bush can sign the legislation before the November elections, those sources tell WND.

The plan championed by White House election strategist Karl Rove is to avoid having Republican senators and congressmen face the voters without being able to take credit for any immigration reform passed by the GOP-controlled 109th Congress...

The system uses here a trick by pointing out the number of people who are ilegaly here and from terrorist coutries. Give me a break! thats just a lame excuse to continue the deportation of ilegal imigrants. Make them freaking legal all at once and the problem is gone. But no they dont want that, therefore you can see they dont freaking care for the security-that is a fake. They just want to throw out the poor hard working foreighners (mostly Mexicans) who do the crapy job for americans-gardening, diging holes, construction.... Check bush mexican border. How many freaking bin laden guys came from Mexico? And why not do the same then with the Canada? Maybe becouse they are rich enought and dont want to imigrate to us? The whole sotry is crap and has nothing to do with any Bin or any laden. And talkign about the cost the foreighners make you should think about who would do your crapy jobs if they would not be there-the modern version of slaves, underpayed and push around. Those poor suckers pay Social security but can even not use it becouse if they do they find them and are deported. They freaking repair your bathrooms, wash your cars, put your food in the bags, take care for you in hospitals and you want to throw them out? Who do the americans think they are? There master, the masters of slaves? Wake up that time is gone. America itself was make by cicking the Indians from their land. What if Indians would go to cort and freaking throw out all the americans? it was there land that was stolen from them. but I guess if you are big and strong you call this conquest and that makes it all legal. But when imigrants come here like your freaking granfathers did then they have to tell them if they can stay or not. What the F@$#!@!!

a citizen and lawful means nothing in this non nation that is becoming mexico and with the ideals of the third world killers, its a nothing ideals of laws made only to keep some in line.

"It just adds to the amateurish, absolutely childish, and progagandistic tenor of the article."

Right again, eh; and you have to wonder: Is the reporter so ignorant that he doesn't know the difference between a real NMS and what this young man qualified for or is he deliberately misleading readers?

To be a National Merit Scholarship winner or finalist or even semi-finalist is a very big deal.

Yes, I agree -- it is. As I recall, you have to score very high on the PSAT in order to have a chance.

...winner of a $20,000 National Merit Scholarship...

So here it clearly appears to be misleading, doesn't it?

It just adds to the amateurish, absolutely childish, and progagandistic tenor of the article.

Not that I don't have sympathy for the kid -- who wouldn't?

Note this language:

To enter the competition, a student must...
be a U. S. citizen or a U.S. lawful permanent resident who intends to become a U.S. citizen at the earliest opportunity allowed by law;

Good catch.

eh, the PIIPP alert story is also misleading. The intro says he won a $20,000 National Merit Scholarship. Later you find out it was a Coca-Cola scholarship. To be a National Merit Scholarship winner or finalist or even semi-finalist is a very big deal. It's hard to say how the Coca-Cola scholarship was judged or whether affirmative action figured into it. I'm not making light of the young man's achievement but the reporter misrepresented the award, possibly by accident.

its all part of the plan, after all this is not a government of the people or by the people, its a government owned by others. the congress may as well be part of the bin laden boys and some are.

Nochmal: PIIPP alert.

I've looked at their proposal, and without figures for how much it will cost the taxpayer, it's dead in the water. All costs to run the program should be born by the employer, the beneficiary of the proposal. Also, Pence proposes to put Medicare deductions into a fund for emergency care. What about non-emergency care? Illegal immigrants use the emergency room for all of their medical care, including the sniffles. Anyway you slice it, Medicare deductions alone could hardly be sufficient to take care of illegal immigrants, for emergencies or otherwise. Another case of these fools in Congress failing to do their homework.
