@JamesFallows @edbott similar arguments made in favor of AMT when adopted (and also not indexed for inflation)
Fri, Sep 23, 2016 at 1:04 pm
@pmohme @JamesFallows I think $1 billion is a pretty good starting point, esp. in an era of low inflation.
Fri, Sep 23, 2016 at 1:06 pm
@edbott @JamesFallows maybe so, but 65% is flat out confiscatory...and won't affect most ultra-rich who create foundations...

@pmohme @JamesFallows On the other hand, the country survived w/ higher estate tax until the 80s.
Fri, Sep 23, 2016 at 1:07 pm
@edbott @pmohme Through most of modern history US had much higher taxes, income and estate, than now.
Fri, Sep 23, 2016 at 1:12 pm
@JamesFallows @edbott you mean most of the 20th century...extended Depression (1930s) and stagflation (1970s) resulted.
Fri, Sep 23, 2016 at 2:01 pm
@pmohme @jamesfallows You think that high income and estate tax rates were responsible for those economic events? Srsly?
Fri, Sep 23, 2016 at 2:15 pm
@edbott @JamesFallows yes, tax policy of the 1930s prolonged the Depression: https://t.co/WhGonCjo0V
Fri, Sep 23, 2016 at 2:18 pm
@edbott @JamesFallows similarly, higher taxes contributed to stagflation: https://t.co/BRQCZvn54t

@pmohme @jamesfallows Well, that’s a fascinating read but has nothing to do with estate taxes. It argues for indexing marginal tax rates.
Fri, Sep 23, 2016 at 3:12 pm
@edbott @JamesFallows and refutes your assertion that tax policy did not contribute to 20th century economic malaise in the U.S...

@pmohme @jamesfallows You are aggressively misquoting me. Go back and read what I wrote again.
Fri, Sep 23, 2016 at 3:46 pm
@edbott Probably not worth arguing w this guy, though I admire your pluck!
Fri, Sep 23, 2016 at 3:55 pm
@JamesFallows Agreed. Call it misplaced sympathy for a fellow UCLA alum, but good faith seems in short supply.

.@edbott: nothing @JamesFallows has done or will ever do at his present rate will impact Trump in any way. Want to help him be effective?
Wed, Sep 21, 2016 at 11:04 am
.@JamesFallows: keep searching Trump's past tweets, you'll find the key to stopping Trump. Just like Stanley Kurtz stopped Obama in 2008!
