Fight the Smears: The Truth About Barack's Birth Certificate (fightthesmears.com)

The site fightthesmears.com has been offline for a couple days for an unknown reason. For public interest reasons, the following is a copy of most of fightthesmears.com/articles/5/birthcertificate, the page that has a picture of what Barack Obama claims is his certification of live birth ("COLB"). The first section between horizontal lines is the center portion of that page; the section below that contains the text of two messages the Obama campaign wanted their supporters to send via email.

The serious problems with the quotes in the first section (from FactCheck and Eli Saslow of the Washington Post) are discussed at length at the last link and here. Smears claiming Barack Obama doesn’t have a birth certificate aren’t actually about that piece of paper — they’re about manipulating people into thinking Barack is not an American citizen.

The truth is, Barack Obama was born in the state of Hawaii in 1961, a native citizen of the United States of America.

FactCheck.org Clarifies Barack’s Citizenship

“When Barack Obama Jr. was born on Aug. 4,1961, in Honolulu, Kenya was a British colony, still part of the United Kingdom’s dwindling empire. As a Kenyan native, Barack Obama Sr. was a British subject whose citizenship status was governed by The British Nationality Act of 1948. That same act governed the status of Obama Sr.‘s children.

Since Sen. Obama has neither renounced his U.S. citizenship nor sworn an oath of allegiance to Kenya, his Kenyan citizenship automatically expired on Aug. 4,1982.”

UPDATE: To be precise, it's a "Certification of Live Birth", not a "Certificate of Live Birth". Also, the page my.barackobama.com/page/invite/birthcert still exists and has a small copy of the certificate. It contains a Javascript redirect to the FTS page which doesn't exist anymore.
