CBS Evening News immigration series (April 7, 2008)

The CBS Evening News Featuring Katie Couric will have a four-night series on immigration matters starting tonight. The only artifact I could find at post time is a 15 second preview (link), indicating that tonight's episode will feature Byron Pitts discussing how "pregnant women purposely come to this country to have their babies born in America". That's not news, but at least the tone is a bit more in the expose fashion than we might expect based on things like a 2006 report from Bill Whitaker. However, I fully expect the "liberal" position to be amply represented. More as it becomes available...

UPDATE: The surprisingly somewhat fair "Illegal Immigrant Births - At Your Expense" is here. I didn't watch the video, but that's probably the script to the segment and, while it contains a little baby-waving it also includes things like this:
"Do many women in Mexico make the choice to have their children in the United States?" Pitts asked.

"Yes," [an illegal alien who'd come here while six months pregnant] said through a translator. "I know people who have done that. Things are much better here in the U.S. because they help children so much more."

It's a "better" life ... that American taxpayers help pay for.
