John McCain running for America's Diversity Director (Web Ad: Tolerance)

John McCain offers an interminable web ad called "Tolerance" (link), which basically says we shouldn't hate on each other. It's akin to something that employees are forced to watch at their indoctrinations or when they need reeducating, and it's difficult to imagine it coming from even Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton. In fact, it's more appropriate for candidates in foreign countries such as England or Canada. Even if Bush had done something similar there'd be more of a cowboy theme in some way.

When promoting "tolerance", you're in effect calling some people intolerant. Could McCain be calling some of his current or future supporters intolerant? Or, could it be an attempt to play up the Jeremiah Wright scandal? Or, some combination?

And, do we really want to hear lectures like this coming from the White House? Haven't Bush's lectures (and those from his lackeys) been bad enough?

I have a confession to make...I cannot tolerate MCCAIN!!!

There's a priggishness to McCain very reminiscent of another service academy graduate turned politician--Jimmy Carter. Bush is in a league of his own, but Johnny Mc would also be an incredibly annoying President. Can't wait until he gives us the same moral lecture on immigration he privately gave congressional colleagues with the same implication of what we are if we disagree with Senator Perfect. Dude's got a serious moral superiority complex even people who like his resume will eventually be turned off by. If he's lucky, people won't fully pick up on it until AFTER he's elected. Then you've got his prickly nature which even during this relatively low key phase of the campaign can erupt at any time. Letterman making light of his grumpy old man image with the candidate playing along seemed like a nice move. If he acknowledges it, he comes off less grumpy bu're old. But can he escape that anyway? Maybe he should just embrace it the way Reagan turned a grandfatherly image to his advantage but will *crotchety* grandpa sell? With McCain's resume the Michael Deaver staging is an easy sell and already in full effect. If done well, that alone could practically win him the general election if the blank canvas Obama gets painted with a few blotches.
