The city of Manassas VA was recently in the news for attempting to control overcrowding in housing by passing local laws that further restricted how many adults could live in a single-family house. What prompted this was houses being used as de facto boarding houses with numerous people living there or houses sold to a "family" that consisted of a bunch of both adults and children. I had this latter situation explained to me as, "A house gets sold and two weeks later 5-6 cars are parked in the driveway, on the street, on the lawn, and it's obvious that a large number of people live there. Two months later 2-3 more houses in the neighborhood go on the market" as people move away from an obvious problem.
The residents complained to local authorities regarding overcrowding. The main "offenders" were - surprise, surprise - immigrant Hispanic families. Naturally the "rights" groups got involved, crying discrimination. Believe me, the folks calling the authorities would not have cared about the race, creed, color, or ethnic grouping of the offenders. They simply wanted zoning laws enforced.
Last I heard, HUD was investigating. No, no; not the overcrowded housing. MANASSAS for complaining....

The ACLU has gone from supporting the enforcement of civil rights laws that protect minorities to corrupting enforcement of Constitutional immigration laws. Where once it supported courageous local communities against the lethargy of the federal government to enforce the Bill of Rights, it now denounces the Davids who would oppose the federal Golliath that refuses to do its duty. Who would have ever thought that the will of the people would be so obstructed by the ACLU and the Bush administration.
