"Give illegal immigrants a chance, [Sen. Chuck] Hagel says"

That's the title of this Omaha World-Herald story: "The plan Hagel is expected to introduce Tuesday also will include stronger controls at the border to stem the flow of undocumented workers into the United States." But, it's basically a massive amnesty scheme just like the other ones. Full text of the article here.

Your job if you'd be so kind: find out where Hagel gets his campaign contributions from, and the revenues of the top illegal immigration-employing industries in Nebraska.

It sounds like a job for ex-acquaintance "Ann D. Bome", who at one time was in Omaha researching a documentary... on Boy's Town.

Show off your American Pride! Wear an American Belt Buckle or anything that represents The Great American Way! GOD BLESS AMERICA!!

I think if you give illegals a chance it will come to pass they will over rule the US in which we conqured in the early years of this nation. The Illigals shouild abide by bour Laws and do what is right and that includes all the small and large buisnesses that you are in favor of to hire illegals. I do hope that they all go to Jail, and all those that help them! GOD BLESS THE USA! Send the Illegals back to where they came! Amen

Give illegals a chance? This is a dishonest attempt at confusing people who may hold some unclear notion like 'give everyone a fair chance'. We don't give convicted murderers a chance, or shouldn't. the same with illegals; they're not asking for a fair shot, or an equal field, or an honest chance. They're asking for favor, and with a dirty record. They're asking for an unfair second chance. Why should the criminal get a chance over the honest, much less a second, or second hundredth chance? This should be as popular as a politician saying 'I want to rehabilitate criminals'. The people know it means just releasing them to do it again. Foreign criminals should have one strike and they're out. Rehabilitating these foreign criminals is unfair and dishonest, and unequal too.

Nebraska is a location for many low-wage meatpacking plants. Not so long ago(about 15 years ago) meatpacking plant jobs were high-pay unionized jobs.

Take Operation Vanguard, intended as a kinder, gentler means of enforcing the ban on hiring illegal aliens. This initiative, launched in late 1998, focused on all the meat-packing plants in Nebraska (instead of raiding one and letting the others benefit from the disruption of their competitor). Rather than breaking in the doors, the INS simply subpoenaed the companies' personnel records, which they took back to the office and verified. The INS then asked to interview those employees who appeared to be unauthorized
