Seven people called WTIF radio station Thursday, saying the gesture was inappropriate and that the Mexican and U.S. flags should not fly together.I'm sure he could have found another way to do this that didn't involve flying the flag of a country that continually seeks to violate our laws. And, that last paragraph sets off warning bells. I have no knowledge of this particular mayor, but if someone says something like that I wonder if they or their associates are profiting off illegal immigration in some way.
"I did that as an expression of sorrow to the Hispanic community," Mayor Paul Johnson said. "For those who we offended, I apologize, but I think it was the right thing to do."
...Johnson said he considers immigrants to be a part of the community, who do very important work. "They're here to find the hope of America," the mayor said.

Gee, where have I seen that sentence before? And exactly how does this post show 'ignorance'? I suppose 'hatefulness' and 'pettiness' are in the eye of the beholder.
But I think there is enough evidence to say this post shows, just going by his rhetoric, that Mayor Johnson is a politically correct ass. What about the members of the "Hispanic community" who are Americans? Or is he implying all 'Hispanics' in the area, or enough of them, are illegal, or hold sufficient allegiance to Mexico that they want to see the flag flying? If so, why would an American especially welcome that?
By the way, does Tifton have a gang task force in its police department yet? Any 'bad schools' there? How about wages? Are the local unskilled prospering now that they have to compete with illegals for jobs? Just give it time.
Flying the national flag of illegals who've been victims of crime is NOT an appropriate response by American authorities, no matter what the crime and no matter how many victims there were.

This just shows how hateful and ignorant, not to mention petty, some members of the paranoid radical anti-immigration movement have become.

The 'hope of America', but somehow not the free education hopes of America on someone else's money, and not the free medical care hopes of America, nor the racial quota hopes of America, nor any bad hopes at all? What amazing beings such immigrants must be, whose hopes can't help but be good, and not a violent imposition on others, to whom we owe loyalty.
