Ann Althouse finally discovers ethical behavior (blogger, law professor, University of Wisconsin)

Ann Althouse is a blogger and a law professor at the University of Wisconsin who's finally decided to engage in ethical behavior (or at least pretend to support it).

I left hundreds of comments on Althouse's blog over the years, but I stopped in 2010 due to harassment, libel, and a threat from some of her other commenters. I wasn't being abusive of others; the dispute was largely about my opposition to the Tea Parties (which Althouse supports). Althouse knew about the harassment, the libel, and the threat but said and did nothing.

Nowadays, however, Althouse has seen the light. Some time during or after December 2011 [1], she added the following above the comments box on her blog:

I value all comments made in good faith. I love different points of view and even edgy modes of expression. What we delete are bad faith comments, comments that we believe have the ulterior motive of destroying the conversation and driving people away from this forum.

Those are fine words, but it's too bad she didn't live up to them in prior years. In May, 2010 someone hiding their true identity left this comment [2] on her site, referring to me:

chris kelly, aka lonewacko, aka 24giveshead.com, cannot stand ridicule. I'm warning you, if you folks keep it up, he'll go away.

If someone left a comment like that here against another commenter (no matter who it was), I'd challenge it. I'd warn the commenter that I'd reveal as much as I knew about their identity if it continued. Needless to say, Althouse didn't do anything: that would have been ethical of her.

Then, there was this threat [3]:

Hey, I even have something for Lonewacko even though he changed his name to protect the incoherent.

That links to img.youtube.com/vi/-ttqjhBijI8/0.jpg, a picture of a female gang member holding a gun.

Did Althouse do anything about that? Of course not.

By now, you can probably guess that Althouse did nothing about these libelous claims [4]:

...I hate to break it you, but Soros will never promote you to Assistant to the General Manager...

...Don't blame Lonewacko. He's just paid to cut-n-paste whatever is fed to him...

...And not only are you paid to post your bullshit propaganda, you suck Soros off every evening...

...I'm glad I read far enough into your Soros-funded troll to see you call Glenn Reynolds a hack...

Those were four separate comments, and I left out the even more despicable parts [5].

In all those cases and many, many more, Anne Althouse knew exactly what was going on and did nothing. And, that's because she just isn't that concerned about doing things the ethical way, even if she claims otherwise now.

[2] That comment was left by someone using the name "Comrade X" on 5/11/10, 9:09 AM at 2010/05/in-kagan-free-zone.html. That user has no public profile, but used a avatar of a Mad Men character (the same as the image here: druzi-design . net/blog/sites/default/files/images/madmen_icon.jpg). There's a good chance "Comrade X" is actually close Althouse friend Glenn Reynolds, although there are other suspects. Reynolds has an obsession with being as much like Saul Alinsky as possible and he's suggested mocking politicians as a tactic so the "ridicule" suggestion is right up his alley. There are other possibilities, such as Dave Weigel (who's used the same formulation of listing my names) or contributors or commenters at Reason Magazine. Sean Medlock or Joseph Fein are outside possibilities. There are others, and if Althouse had any ethics she'd help narrow things down.

[5] Obviously, I oppose George Soros. I also oppose the Koch family. It's difficult for some partisan hacks to realize that not everyone is locked in to their partisan box.
