Donald Trump needs to concentrate on immigration, not personal issues

After the release of the Entertainment Tonight tape, Donald Trump has decided to go full-on Breitbart News, concentrating on Hillary Clinton's and Bill Clinton's personal issues and various scandals/"scandals" rather than things that are actually important and that would help him win the election.

The various scandals or supposed scandals involving Hillary and Bill - some decades old - are "already in the market". Nearly everyone who'd oppose Hillary over her emails or Benghazi or what Bill did decades ago already opposes the Clintons. How many persuadable voters have never heard of Benghazi and don't already have an opinion on it or decided it wasn't of interest to them? If screaming "Benghazi" a hundred times won't persuade people, what makes Trump think screaming it another hundred times will? Won't bringing up Paula Jones and others make Hillary a bit of a victim to many in her base, solidifying her support?

Further, going after the Clintons on personal issues gives license to those in the Clinton camp to go after Trump over personal issues. Are there any new Clinton scandals just waiting to be revealed as October Surprises? Not very likely. However, there are probably more tapes of Trump saying things he'll regret saying, and some of them might be even worse than the Entertainment Tonight tape. Trump can't credibly claim the high ground and say he wants to make this election about the issues when he's slinging mud with the rest of them.

There isn't much gold left in that mine, but there are a lot of hidden dangers.

On the other hand, immigration is Hillary Clinton's most vulnerable issue. For instance, she supports the DREAM Act, an anti-American bill that would let illegal aliens deprive some citizens of college. Making smart arguments against her immigration positions could undercut her to a good portion of her base. No one with a megaphone has done that. Arguments that only play at Breitbart don't count: it's not like Hillary supporters or leaners are going to be persuaded by something at that or similar sites.

However, some of them could be persuaded by arguments they can relate to or being shown how Hillary is deceiving them about the issue. Going after Hillary over immigration in smart ways would also undercut the establishment media which propagandizes the issue (see PIIPP, crops rotting in the fields for starters).

All the talking points in support of mass immigration are deceptive in one way or another, but most people don't know that. If Trump was the person who finally revealed how they've been duped about immigration, he'd get a lot of support. Not to mention immigration being the most vital and fundamental domestic issue.

Handled correctly, immigration is a gold mine that could cost Hillary a good deal of support.

Obviously, Trump supporters are going to invent one excuse after another. They're going to falsely claim Trump can both go after Hillary over immigration and over personal issues. As shown by last night's debate, he can't. They're going to falsely claim that Trump makes smart arguments against Hillary's immigration position. All of the arguments he's used are false, full of holes, or ineffective at undercutting her to her base or leaners. They're going to falsely claim Trump's immigration policies are smart. See the entries on Donald Trump for detailed discussions of how Trump's immigration policies would fail miserably.

If Trump supporters spent as much trying to make Trump better as they do vainly spinning for him, he might not be in such bad shape. That's actually not that difficult to do: enough pressure put on Trump's proxies would translate into them putting pressure on Trump to finally do things the right way.
