Jose Antonio Vargas

Jose Antonio Vargas is a former reporter for various services [1] who "came out" as an illegal alien in 2011. Vargas has wide elite support; the elites use him to put a human face on illegal immigration. That's despite Vargas not being very good at that role: it's surprising that the elites haven't ditched him for someone capable of making something similar to a cogent argument.

Since his announcement, Vargas has conducted campaigns supporting the anti-American DREAM Act, supporting the highly-flawed comprehensive immigration reform plan, opposing immigration enforcement, and opposing the use of the term "illegal immigrant".

In October 2012, Vargas was stopped for a minor traffic violation. The Department of Homeland Security's ICE was contacted but refused to deport him, saying:

"Mr. Vargas was not arrested by ICE, nor did the agency issue a detainer. ICE is focused on smart, effective immigration enforcement that prioritizes the removal of public safety threats, recent border crossers and egregious immigration law violators, such as those who have been previously removed from the United States."

Vargas is only a threat insofar as few others are willing and able to take the easy steps of showing how he's wrong.

Charlie Rose's very weak immigration interview with Jose Antonio Vargas - 09/29/13

In June 2012, Charlie Rose interviewed illegal alien journalist Jose Vargas on CBS News' This Morning. They discussed the Time Magazine cover story Vargas authored called "We Are Americans/Just Not Legally".

Define American's misleading campaign against the term "illegal immigrant" - 09/24/12

The pro-illegal immigration group Define American is beginning a campaign to monitor the media for uses of the term "illegal immigrant".

Instead of using "illegal immigrant" - or the more accurate "illegal alien" - they want the media to use the misleading euphemism "undocumented immigrant".

Jose Vargas - the Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter who recently announced he's an illegal alien - has created a pledge you can sign in which he wants a "new conversation on immigration" (link). I signed on to it and you can too if you want:

I Pledge to Define American

I pledge.
