Igor Volsky lies about Lou Barletta (Latinos, immigration, ThinkProgress)

Igor Volsky of ThinkProgress quotes the following section from peekURL.com/zEmJggE about former Hazleton mayor and current Rep. Lou Barletta:

"It's amnesty that America can’t afford," Barletta said Monday. "We have to stop people from coming in illegally. This will be a green light for anyone who wants to come to America illegally and then be granted citizenship one day." [...]

"I hope politics is not at the root of why we’re rushing to pass a bill. Anyone who believes that they’re going to win over the Latino vote is grossly mistaken," Barletta said. "The majority that are here illegally are low-skilled or may not even have a high school diploma. The Republican Party is not going to compete over who can give more social programs out. They will become Democrats because of the social programs they’ll depend on."

Everything in that quote is accurate. Of course, Igor Volsky can't help but lie, giving his post about this ( peekURL.com/zwMxMGF ) the false headline "GOP Rep Says He Opposes Immigration Reform Because Latinos Are Uneducated, Will Never Support Republicans". Barletta didn't say all Latinos are uneducated, as that headline claims. He was just referring to the "majority that are here illegally".

Volsky also claims that Barletta "suggested that Hispanics would never vote for Republicans who don’t provide them with government hand outs" and that too is false. Barletta was referring to "win over the Latino vote", i.e., get a majority. Barletta isn't claiming that all Hispanics won't vote for Republicans, just that most of them will and that they will do so because most do support big government programs.

If you want indisputable facts to be denied and quotes to be misinterpreted in order to play the race card, Think Progress is a great place to start.
