Colin Powell: corrupt, incompetent, illegal immigration supporter

If anyone would realize the dangers of having not just loose borders but millions of unassimilated foreign citizens in the U.S., I'd hope it would be the former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Yet, here's Colin Powell:

"America could not survive without immigration. Even the undocumented immigrants are contributing to our economy. That's the country my parents came to. That's the image we have to portray to the rest of the world: kind, generous, a nation of nations, touched by every nation, and we touch every nation in return. That's what people still want to believe about us. They still want to come here. We've lost a bit of the image, but we haven't lost the reality yet. And we can fix the image by reflecting a welcoming attitude -- and by not taking counsel of our fears and scaring ourselves to death that everybody coming in is going to blow up something. It ain't the case."

First, there are three things he's mashing all together into one: illegal immigration, the legal variety, and the difficulty legitimate visitors have of obtaining visas. Those are three entirely separate issues, but they're one in his mind.

Second, as a military planner he falls far short. John McCain admitted that massive illegal immigration forces us to choose between giving an amnesty and France-style riots.

Colin Powell would subject the U.S. to the same horrific choice.

Is Powell paid to promote immigration including of the illegal variety, is he unable to think things through, or does he feel that such a choice is acceptable given the relatively small amount generated by illegal aliens, almost all of whom are low-skilled workers? In any case, he's not qualified for any public office.

Who cares what Powell thinks? He's a has-been calling plays from his living room chair. Like so many other former generals, his opinions are useless. Either get in the game or shut up!

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colin_Powell Powell was born in 1937 in Harlem NYC to Jamacian immigrant parents. His parents immigrated to the US at a time of regulated and sustainable immigration in the wake of the 1924 immigration act. In fact many parts of the country had endured negative migration levels during the early years of the Great Depression. So by the late 1930's the strains on the job market were not what they are today as labor participation rates are experiencing unprecident declines. Also his parents were given perfered immigration status for being from an English speaking protectoriate of our strongest ally. His parent may have spoke with a strong accent and a Jamacia dialect but they did not face the language barriers or bi-lingual multicultural insanity of today. His parents not unlike my father's immigrant parents from Sicily greatly benefited from rising incomes as the garment and clothing industries unionized. It was an era when the unskilled could expect stable employment, rising wages and employers and unions willing to provide training and benefits. Powell enjoyed a public school system that was not being overwhelmed by excessive immigration from non-English speaking countries. Nor was there constant turmoil in the schools over the primacy of the English language. His neigborhood was not being overwhelmed by juveninial crime as young black men were being kept out of the job market by unsupportable numbers of new immigrants. Powell's military career benefited greatly from the Civil Rights movement that never would have taken off unless both our private and public institutions were forced to welcome African-Americans during a sustained tight labor market. It would nice if instead of silly sentimentality Powell was able to distiquish between the era of sustainable and restricted immigration he experienced growing up that contributed to his success and what is occuring today.

Our rulers: the reality vs. how it is assumed they see typically see themselves: http://unqualified-reservations.blogspot.com/2007/05/utley-rule-and-bdh-alliance.html (...) _Because no Brahmin, at least no Brahmin I can imagine, ever thinks that he is (a) the ruling class, (b) allied with criminals and peasants to crush the white working class and the old aristocracy, or (c) a cog in a 75-year-old political machine whose goal is to dominate the world and convert all humans to the worship of a single transnational, bureaucratic superstate in which his caste will play the traditional role of the mandarin priest-oligarch._ _Au contraire! He is working for peace and justice. He is fighting against racism, prejudice, corruption and oppression. He has never even considered the possibility of ruling the world._ (...)

Powell blew the most critical job he had leading up to the Iraq invasion: clear the way for the 4th ID to invade via Turkey. Like so many of the products of immigration he's a walking Trojan Horse. "Wow it's great here! EVERYBODY should be allowed to come right in!" Just another reason to end immigration.

"America could not survive without immigration." Exaggerate much? This is the kind of wild claim open border types say all the time and are never called on. I can only wonder what he would say if actually pressed to explain such an idiotic statement?

relax, pay him no heed, he's the affirmative action former joint chief of staff, had he been white he'd have never made Colonel.
