Time, relentless time

I have little doubt that many of today's youths will not only not know who these people are, but won't even be familiar with them in their later, more poppy, much more famous incarnation. If you're stumped, here's a hint: think goat.

Here's another one, with an intro as creepy as you'd suspect. Surprisingly, there are actually several other videos available from that version of their ensemble.

That's Fleetwood Mac?

Yes, but you weren't supposed to say it. There might be youths about. Of course, it's not really fair to say that those on the video are FM, since the only real constants have literally been F&M, with various others shuttling in over time, including Bob Welch.

So they went from a British blues-rock band to an L.A. post-hippie/pop band? That's funny.

I recognized Mick Fleetwood pretty easily, but no one else really. I'm just not familiar enough with the group in any of its pre mid-1970s incarnations -- it came in quite a few versions with almost the same number of levels of commercial success. I don't think 'History' will be all that kind to Hefner. If I may stretch things a bit and marginally refer to him as a historical figure.

Peter Green was better than Clapton at the blues (or anyone else for that matter), and his 1959 flame top Les Paul is worth six figures today. Nobody can play like that, even in present time. Clapton wasn't god: Peter Green was. Lindsay Buckingham is a good finger picker, but could never match the playing skill of Peter Green. Too bad all that LSD rotted his brain.
