Eeryone knows that there is discrimination all the way from the mexican lady cleaning the toilets of gringo houses that are too damn lazy to do it to the black guy pumping gas at the gas station. Everyone sees it and doesn't do anything about it. What we forget to mention is the US is made up of immigrants. The only people that can actually be called Americans were almost exterminated by immigrants. As far as learning the language of course it's necessary but to say that a certain race is too stupid to learn it. Hell I know people that were born and raised in the US that lack those skills but who's telling them anything. I think it's a sad issue that it's about time something is done about it. Its not immigrants that have people in an uproar, like people here have said we are all immigrants or we are descendants of people who have come to this country seeking to better their situation. On my mothers side we immigrated to this country in 1633 from England, Ireland and scottland. They came as a lot of people do working as servants or labor jobs ect many were treated badly. My grand father was in WWII an imagrant. The one thing that I am trying to say is that in order for this country to surive we need people who want to come here to better their situation. Also the one thing they taught me mostly my grand father is he came from hungary but he was american and wanted to be american and I hope and pray that if you come to this country you do to. Now in writting all of the above I wanted to close with this in the beginning I worte that it is not immigrents that people here have a hard time with and I belive that people spred false statements that all imigrents are bad or should go back, This is not the case it is people that come INTO THIS COUNTRY ILLEAGALLY, NOT PEOPLE WHO COME FROM ANY COUNTRY THROUGH THE RIGHT WAY. So many of you are missing the point! We should not be against any American, regardless of age, race, religious beliefs, or income. We are a country of freedom, which people from every nation, race and religious beliefs founded. The problem is with the illegal immigrants from EVERY COUNTRY! If you want to live in America, get the benefits from America and have the freedom of America then become an American citizen!!!!!
In my opinion, a lot of the illegal immigrants and the "slum lords/bosses" go hand in hand. You would have one without the other. The illegals are too scared of being found out, they will take the low paying jobs, no benefits, etc. As the "slum lords/bosses" know the illegals can't fight the unfairness, so they can hire them without paying for anything for them.
If you want the happiness, freedom and rights of an American citizen, then become one! Then the benefits are your to try and change, etc. If you are illegal, you are breaking the laws and should be sent home.

There were no signs of WMD. Americans need to be less gullible and more wary of what their government is trying to accomplish in their name, in the name of freedom and democracy. Democracy is something born from and with the people. It is not something you impose from upside down like Bush is trying to do in Irak and Afghanistan. To me, this has another name - that's tyranny, dictatorship disguised as democracy. Latin America suffered years of US interventionism. I had a asian wife...I paid thousands of dollars to get her here...So I have no problem with legal immigration because I had to pay Uncle Sam plenty...
So what I mean is no free lunch...The original indentured servants were white people who did not have the money to pay to come to America...So they signed contracts to work for thier sponsors or in reality their masters.....Unfortunately many of these people worked for years to pay off their debt.

I am mexican american, and love both my countries. My entire family has come to this country to make something and have something to show for. We have acomplished all and then some thanks to the opportunity that is given to us and so very few that appreciate it. Instead alot of "latinos" not just mexicans come to this country because they see that their cousins and uncles have come and are on WIC and Calworks or to come and drink with their buddies and lay on the corner behind the liquor store! thats i sooooo sad. When I was growing up in chicago Mexican were not a race but people from a country, just like Italians, Irish, and Polish. In fact why are Italians called WOPS (Without papers). They are called this because they came here without any papers at all. What I do not understand is why Mexican labor in chicago is considered messed up. It is fine, we are not California that was full of racist protestants. We are Chicago, We are all immigrants many of us came here illegally at first. America is made of illegal Irish, Italian, and Polish people what made MExicans not white, I think is the crazy Protestants in California, my family was not considered white until the 1970's they are Italian Catholics. We are all Americans, these marches turned into a race thing because people in California do not understand they are anti a religion not a race, my family is very dark complected Italians that are way darker then most Latino's. If the May 1st march is to be effective perhaps the Illegal immigrants should wave the American Flag and their signs should be in English. The language in the United States of America is English - if you prefer Spanish there is a country near by that speaks that language.

The immigrants are boycotting all American businesses - Will that include the hospitals that provide free emergency medical care to people without insurance? Or will they accept that free help on May 1st as usual.

The government should see which companies and businesses are most effected by the strike. That would be the first place I would check for illegal immigrants on May 2nd.

On-the-job turnout was dramatically lower at some locales in the meat-packing, masonry, restaurant and landscaping businesses, and numerous firms closed for the day.

Mike Collins, who owns 500 acres of Vidalia onions in southeastern Georgia, was forced to shut down his packing shed and postpone his harvest when none of his 175 seasonal workers showed up.

"We need to be going wide-open this time of year to get these onions out of the field and we have nobody working today," he said. "Losing a day in this part of the season causes a tremendous amount of problems."

Tyson Foods Inc., the world's largest meat producer, shut five of nine beef plants and four of six pork plants in anticipation of widespread absences. Perdue Farms Inc., the nation's third-largest chicken producer, closed eight processing plants in seven states. Cargill Meat Solutions, the nation's second-largest beef processor, gave more than 15,000 workers the day off and closed plants in six states.

Gold Kist, another poultry producer, shuttered two North Carolina plants and operated its two Georgia facilities at reduced productivity after many employees failed to heed requests by the company's managers and CEO to show up despite the protests.

"We've tried to be open," said Wayne Lord, a vice president for the Atlanta-based company. "They were urged to come to work today because of our focus on satisfying our customer requirements."

Others publicly supported their employees' cause. Arthur Velasquez, founder and chief economic officer of Azteca Foods in Chicago, said he was "extremely proud" of his workers and noted that illegal immigrants keeps alive companies that need seasonal employees.

"It's a seasonal situation, so people need workers right then and there," he said. "And either that or they don't survive."

Many companies rediscovered what they already knew: They can't operate effectively without the extra help.

Work sites operated in the Washington, D.C., area by Beltsville, Md.-based Manganaro MidAtlantic, a concrete and masonry company where immigrants comprise up to 75 percent of the work force, were quiet Monday. John Livingston, a business developer for Manganaro, said his firm has not been able to fill its staffing needs without immigrants for more than a decade.

Low attendance also was the story at hotels in Indianapolis, construction sites in Miami and plant nurseries and landscapers across a wide area.

McDonald's Corp. said some of its employees participated in the rallies, prompting it to operate an unspecified number of its nearly 14,000 restaurants with limited crews, shortened hours or drive-thru service only. The Oak Brook, Ill.-based company did not provide further specifics but released a statement saying it strongly supports U.S. immigration reform.

Carl Tannenbaum, chief economist at LaSalle Bank in Chicago, said the boycott underscores that immigration is not only political issue but a big economic one, too.

"The American economy really relies to a large extent on a growing labor force," he said. "There's a certain replenishment to the labor force that immigrants provide, and I think we have to be careful about taking steps that would hinder that process."

In my city, a brand new 3-story very nice apartment building was completed and is designated as a low-income property. There are 100 apartments. The parking lot is full of nice cars and trucks from BMW's to Lexus to Brand new 4x4s it looks upscale. One problem though: the occupants of this building pay no rent, no insurance, no taxes and have no responsibilities.

They go to work like the rest of us. But they keep every cent they earn. Americans pay their rent, Americans pay their taxes, Americans pay their medical bills, and Americans pay their utilities and even for food. Who are these people that do not pay rent, have free medical and free ride to school and get free grants to the local Jr. college? These people are Illegal immigrants, which happens to consist mostly of Mexicans.

These people that are protesting in American streets are getting a free ride on the backs of many generations of hardworking tax paying responsible American citizens. This is not to say immigrants are not hard working, because they are. The difference is the responsibilities and the fact that they do not contribute back to the system at all. They work very hard to tear the system down, even thought the system is housing and feeding them.

The more children they have or claim to have the more checks they receive. Average $400.00 per child every month. This is on top of free housing, free utilities, food stamps, free medical and free schools.

They go to our children’s schools and we pay for our children to sit and listen to a new over paid extra teacher translate an American textbook in to Spanish. Our children are actually sitting there in class doing nothing but waiting. No Learning. This has got to stop.

My daughter came home from school crying and upset. I asked her what was wrong and she told me she got in trouble in class for reading page 5 in her textbook. I ask her why. She said that she was on page 4 and wanted to read page 5 but was not allowed to do so until the 12 Mexican students learned the first 4 pages. I asked: “how long have you been on page 4?" GET THIS: she said: " 5 weeks". I was astonished.

She explained to me that the 12 Mexican kids in her class do not speak English. No one is allowed to go onto other pages until the Mexican students learn each page first in Spanish & then if they want to participate they begin again in English. I went to the school which in Sonoma County and was confronted by a person that spoke in broken English who informed me that she was a Spanish language teacher, that she was hired to work along side the English teachers. I was told that there are 6 specially hired Spanish translators in this school alone. This new Spanish-speaking teacher asked if I had a problem with Mexicans in general because she did not see the problem in letting the Spanish kids catch up. I tried to explain that I thought it was wrong that an entire school is kept scholastically behind just to sit and watch foreign students learn English for an entire semester or more, regardless of their nationality. She told me I was a racist. I could have died right there. What does scholastics and curriculum have to do with anything racist? She started speaking Spanish and walked away. So, our American students are punished for wanting to learn, as illegal immigrants are doted over by not only the original teacher that is now required to learn to speak Spanish, but an additional teacher that gets paid over $40k a year who does not even grasp the English language herself. Our school systems are in bad enough shape but now we are paying taxes to our schools so that Spanish kids can be showed how much more important they are than the rest of the English speaking class. I checked the Sonoma County School District and found that there are over 100 Spanish teachers teaching along side regular teachers in non-language classes. (This does not include Spanish or Foreign Language Classes). This translates into $4,000,000.00 being spent to have a teacher in each of these classes that does not teach the curriculum while the rest of the class is watching. This is only in one county. Does being worried about the future of my children and our school systems make me a racist? I think not. Has any one else looked into this egregious waste our children’s learning time and of taxpayer’s money. This is not just 4 million dollars, it grows by leaps and bounds when you think of all the other aspect of life this has an impact on. this is where the Billions of dollars is going across our nation. Think about the national debt. Think about what groups of people are affecting it the most.

Personal test: Please, just for a moment think back to when you were in school. How would you react if one day a new teacher showed up with 10 or more new students that all spoke another language? Then you were told to sit and wait while the new students were taught the texts in their own language (NOT ENGLISH). If you even looked at another page in your book you would be punished and ridiculed. Remember we are not talking about a one-time deal. This is going on NOW!!. It has been going on for a long time. Now the textbooks in the schools are even being printed in Spanish and the Spanish students are not even required to learn English.

One argument is that in European school children are taught multiple languages so why not here. Hello, Europe is a tight group of many countries that are forced to be multi-lingual to survive. In European schools or any schools around the world, the students are taught in their countries own language first in every subject. They are taught in alternate classes other languages these classes are called "Language" classes. These worldly schools have not ever taught math, history, and science in a foreign language as a primary curriculum.

Why is it that the mainstream America is not told the truth? Because the power is held by the few that stand up and shout, well let’s join the shouting.

As with other countries It should be an absolute that any illegal immigrant can be deported. There should be no special privilege just because they are here already.

I am aware that there are good people in every country, every race and creed. But America has become the haven of the "GET IT FREE". There is no intent to make America a better place by these new immigrants. They do not care that they are sucking the life out of our schools, living off the hard work of generations of Americans. They only care that right now it is FREE and they want it all. In the near future when a vast number of American baby boomers are planning on retiring there will be no life in the system they paid for. The Medicare will be used up. The Social Security will be gone. Retirement will not be an option. But next door there will be families that got a free ride for their entire American existence and they will be blaming YOU!! that they still do not have enough and want more. We have the "National guard", and it should be deployed on our borders. There is no other country in the world that would allow such abuse of its borders. Ask your friends and neighbors about this and like me, you will find that we are all thinking the same. So lets get together as Americans and take back our streets, our schools, our politicians and our border. This is America; we speak English and Nothing Is For Free.

Look around your city and realize how easy it is to be heard. The Mexican movement is being forced upon us by word of mouth. The news agencies give then the spin that as American we are some how bad and responsible for the welfare of any person that shows up on our steps. Do not listen to the spin. Speak out. To be heard as American all we need is you. yes you, the individual reading this. All you have to do is to share your voice with others. As proud Americans: WE should pick a day of solidarity. Of course Tuesday would be great, everyone that is affected by Mexicans taking the day off on Monday may 1st, should close and take Tuesday may 2nd off, even the 3rd if possible. For those that can afford it take the week off. What will happen, more than what happens on may 1st. but in reality we need time just as they did.

How many friends and relatives do you have that share your American view? What would happen if they actually made their voice heard?

My daughter will go onto another grade this year, less educated, uninspired and believing that being an immigrant means you are better than the evil Americans.

She will work hard and be punished for reading in English. She will be ridiculed for wanting to learn in English and choosing to learn French or German instead of Spanish as a second language. The corners or our streets will be once again flowing with vagrants.

Each of us here in America will be treated with disrespect for being American and speaking English.

America has supported the rest of the world including Mexico for decades and now the world watches to see if we cave in or stand for OUR rights as American in a country that speaks English. In a world that has a predominate language that is not Spanish.

parent, I vehemently disagree. Home school may in fact be a very nice option for some (under the guise of personal choice, not force). But for those that actually work for a living, this is hardly a serious answer to teachers speaking in a foreign tongue.
Which brings me to "Why not just learn Spanish": I assume you have not ever taken a language course. If you had, you would know that speaking at full velocity on subject matter not intended as a language curriculum, with words that have multiple syllabic references, would be impossible for children or even gifted adults to comprehend.
No, the answer is not pull your children out of school to stay at home, while the foreign students occupy the classes at exorbitant expense.
No the answer is not sitting in and learning a fun new language while failing all other courses and forging on unprepared for the next grade.
If an illegal immigrant enrolls a child that cannot speak the language, then this child should be in a class that teaches the English language especially as a language course, not as a normal text class which would interfere with the rest of the schedule and required curriculum. This child would be required to catch up. This also should not be at the expense of English speaking children or their parents tax dollars. In American schools in it has always been the case that if you cannot reach the goals of the class you are in, you are placed in the next lowest class until you are at a level you can succeed in. Why would illegal immigrants get to bypass this basic rule of learning? Why should our children be suffering for this and why should we be paying for it.
How many know what the national debt is? How many know how much of that debt is due directly to the welfare costs of illegal immigrants? Do not stop short by thinking that welfare is single item. Immigrant Welfare is everything associated to the upkeep of the people supported by it. This starts at the border, police, hospitals, public services, dmv, insurance companies, roads/highways, parks, schools and even city refuse facilities. This is only a small list; this affects every part of our lives. Only the few in the upper income brackets are disillusioned, as they cannot see the effects of things that they do not care about in the first place. Higher income almost always means private school & private doctors. It is all too easy for the fortunate to say; “give them what they want”. They do not live directly with the results. They have lost sight of what it takes to work hard for just enough and hope one day for a small vacation without the worry of paying it off for several years. Life is tough, yes. But it is not free. Our parents did not work all their lives so that illegal immigrants could have free housing. They worked for the future of their children. I am working for the future of my children. Who’s future are you working for?

Our government knows it just doesn't make sense to deport 12 million people. And I say our government because I'm in the U.S. and I follow 99.99 of its laws. Do you have any idea what a million is? I know you guys might say to me, but Carlos this is not a Mexican thing. I say bullshit! It just happens to be that most illegal aliens happen to be Mexican right? I'm not buying that because our Mexican citizens are discriminated because people stereotype them thinking their wetbacks. So why doesn't the government protect their citizens that happen to be Mexican blood from discrimination by legalizing their brothers and sisters so we can put an end to this? I know but I want you to answer this. You try to say its still not a Mexican or latino thing but what about all the whites that have said it is? I've overheard many times how they say they hate us among my other so called aliens. They always think I don't speak english so they have their racist conversations. Little do they know I speak better english then them, how ironic right? But check this out, instead of me grabbing a hammer and whipping it on their face I stay calm and receive this as information and not an insult. I know we deport others from Europe who come here illegally for example the pollack's. Believe it or not, many of them cross the south border with us. Running through the desert, swimming through the Rio Grande, dodging bullets from racist farmers and coming out of the river with a wetback(get it? they swam and got their back wet). A Pollack who can barely speak English told me that he was about to get deported but they let him go because he has established his life for years in the U.S. but told him not to say a word. So pretty mush it was like they never saw the alien to deport him. So this is why I think of this as a race thing. I agree with protecting the borders from terrorists but not against people who come to work real real hard. And I believe the aliens who have established a life in the U.S. and hasn't committed crimes has the right to be treated like everybody else. If your going to talk to me think realistically because you offend me with your ideas and its very insulting, for God sakes have some respect and common courtesy.

Ahh the knee jerk response......what about the children? its a very sad thing to see kids do without. Its also a sad thing to see a little dog left by the side of the road. I would love to pick up all the little animals that were hurt and take them home and care for them, but if i did that, then my own dog would become one because i couldn't afford to feed it.

See where I'm going with this? Little dogs grow up to be big dogs....little mexicans grow up to be the fools that dig holes in the backyard to crap.
