Robert Kuttner lies about immigration

The editor of The American Prospect offers "Bad times for immigrants". It's so chock full of lies and misleading statements that it's difficult to know where to start.

First, of course, the title. Those he's discussing are illegal aliens, not "immigrants". Then, this:

[HR 4437's] sponsors have the fantastical hope of literally rounding up all 12 million and sending them back.

Obviously, that's a lie.

He also describes Kennedy-McCain as "sensible" and offering a "grand bargain".

The article contains the seeds of its downfall. He reports that our immigration laws aren't being enforced, but then he somehow thinks that changing our laws would result in those being enforced.

Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way: the underlying reason why our immigration laws aren't being enforced has to be addressed. One of those reasons is because supporters of illegal immigration - such as Kuttner, Kennedy, and McCain - still have some remaining credibility.

Hopefully we can work on that.

the country itself did the lack of enforcement. not undocumented workers, and also, hispanics shouldn't be blamed for everything. i have seen twice the amount of asians, polish and germans. everyone is a minority in a way. so we must not lose our morality upon race. we must not discriminate other races, cause the race of one's own does the same things as other races. and we must not break the important laws like the no child left behind. also, there are so many that we can't kick them out, and kicking people out just for the fun of it, it is not moral or even right. amnesty should be called. not the best decision in the book, but it is the only correct solution we have.

LomaAlta, unfortunately most enablers blame dang near everybody and everything before they blame themselves. The parent whose child could have been described above will be standing at the kid's coffin, saying that all of this would have been different if the other, stricter parent hadn't tried to straighten the kid out, had just been more "understanding" etc.

How many times have we read that all of our "enforcement" hasn't worked so let's try amnesty, but they don't call it amnesty?

Hey D Flinchum;
After you remove the curfew altogether, don't forget to blame President Bush, Global warming, and most of all, yourself, for the kid's misbehavior.

Exactly. It's the crazy belief that if your kid won't meet his curfew, then make his curfew an hour later and VIOLA! instant good kid. Don't question why he's an hour late and for darn sure don't punish him for breaking the rules. Just give him that extra hour and prepare yourself for him to be coming in 2 hours later since he sees you're not serious. Better still, save yourself some worry by abolshing his curfew altogether, which is what amnesty amounts to.
