Perhaps it is because the left no longer sees these realities that its antiwar arguments tend to justify continuation of the status quo... Today, the explicit anti-totalitarian impulse has been narrowed and diminished in leftist culture. Instead, the fundamental leftist reflex has evolved into something related, and yet quite different: antiwar, anti-America, and anti-American authority...
