You have a list of 10 media sites & want the publishers' names. Under the @timberners_lee design that's hard to do even manually, very difficult programmatically. A competent design would have an *extensible*, *open source* API *from Day One* to get that info. #internet

.@thedcregulator: no competent engineer would've designed the web like @timberners_lee did. He's held internet progress back a decade & cost literally *billions* of dollars with his half-arsed design.

.@Alistair_King: the HTML/CSS @timberners_lee pushed has cost untold billions in lost productivity & held the web back years. Better ways to do the same thing had been known for decades before his incredibly junky solution. His fans probably think the band Chicago invented jazz.

.@jorgersimao @antonioguterres: look at any web page & you'll see a series of blocks: a slideshow, sidebars, etc. Each of those should be standard, parametized widgets. Due to @timberners_lee incredibly incompetent design, web pages are chunks of crap HTML. Horrific design.

.@adrianlovett: if I or anyone else competent had designed the web, sites would be objects. Eg, you could query a site for about, owner, etc. @timberners_lee did things in dumbest way possible: huge gross chunks of text. His gross incompetence set web back years & cost billions.

.@Katrinabrooker: @timberners_lee held the web back years & cost 10s of billions in wasted productivity. He isn't "Beethoven", more like a 3-year-old at a toy piano. If the DOM is a good idea, then why wasn't it in place from Day One instead of the HTML monstrosity?

.@RichSimmondsZA @evankirstel: web sites should be object hierarchies. Eg, an API to get site info, each page containing widgets, a directory object w/ the "pages" of the site, etc. @timberners_lee made it *text* instead. That's cost literally billions in lost productivity.

.@RichSimmondsZA @evankirstel: CORBA, RMI, Mac, Windows, NeXt, Taligent, etc. were object-oriented systems that could have been drawn from. @timberners_lee took things back to the Stone Age with HTML+CSS. He should be sent to Tower of London, not knighted. #internet #web

For a small, tangible example of the sheer incompetence of @timberners_lee, how do you get a contact form for a website? A human has to visit & find the link (if any). If sites were objects, there would be a standard way to get that information. #Java #web #internet

.@timberners_lee should be [expunged] for all the incredible damage he's wrought. He started a system that's cost billions, ignoring prior art such as an extensible object-based system that would've been secure & would have us much more advanced than now. #Java #internet #web
