Washington Post editorial promotes policies that would hurt U.S. and Haiti - 01/30/10

For some reason, the Washington Post is a strong supporter of "solving" Haiti's problems by supporting massive immigration from that country. They've done that through at least one article, at least one guest editorial, and now an editorial. However, what they support would make the situation in both the U.S. and Haiti worse: it would add workers to the U.S. labor market while millions are unemployed, it would help make Haiti even more dependent on the U.S., it would further braindrain that country, and it would make reforms in that country even less likely. See the entries on the Haiti page...

"Temporary" Protected Status for Haitian illegal aliens pushed by profiteers (Haiti earthquake) - 01/14/10

[TPS has been approved; see the update below] Yesterday, Janet Napolitano of the Department of Homeland Security suspended repatriations of illegal aliens from Haiti; that makes some sense as long as it's actually temporary. What doesn't make sense are the calls from some to give "Temporary Protected Status" in the U.S. to Haitian illegal aliens. The word "temporary" is generally a misnomer as that status is renewed over and over. TPS would be an infected band-aid that wouldn't fix Haiti's structural problems and in some cases would result in importing Haiti's problems into the U.S. It would...

WaPo admits: massive immigration has created a "troubling" situation (second generation Hispanics) - 12/07/09

Last month, the New York Times admitted some of the troubling aspects of the immigration policy they support. Now comes NC Aizenman of the Washington Post with "Struggles of the second generation" (link, via this) in which they likewise admit that the policies they support have created a "troubling" situation. Almost all of it is a sketch of the child of Mexican immigrants who's trying to turn his life around. The rest includes: Whether [the millions of children of Latino immigrants] succeed will have consequences far beyond immigrant circles. As a result of the arrival of more than 20...

Obama state dinner guests incl. Couric, Brian Williams, GE chairman, DreamWorks, NYT and WaPo reporters... - 11/24/09

A full list of those invited to tonight's White House state dinner - the one featuring arugula (no, really) - is here. In addition to a large number of Indian names that I don't recognize, here are some that seem more than a bit interesting:

Frank Sharry cheers race-based power; white-majority districts are "bleached districts" - 11/19/09

Frank Sharry of America's Voice offers "Latinos Poised to Shake Up 2010 Census, Politicians Beware" at the Huffington Post [1] in which he discusses a study showing how massive immigration by Latinos will affect congressional apportionment; more on that here. The piece is basically just a celebration of race-based "raw political power", and later on he quotes from a Washington Post blog post written by Ed OKeefe in which Sharry - someone who's apparently Irish-Italian [2] - says the following: "This is going to set up a very interesting dynamic, because right now, the kind of bleached...

Howard Kurtz is still not a reliable source (Lou Dobbs) - 11/12/09

Howard Kurtz of the Washington Post offers "Anchor Lou Dobbs resigns from CNN" (link). Let me show some ways that he's still not a reliable source: Lou Dobbs, the most opinionated and divisive anchor at a cable network that bills itself as a straight-news oasis, resigned from CNN on Wednesday night... Some of the other CNN personalities - such as Rick Sanchez, Soledad OBrien, and Anderson Cooper - seem to be quite opinionated, and the first two do so publicly. If Kurtz can't see that, perhaps he's a bit like someone who lives next to the train tracks: after a while they get used to the noise...

Liza Mundy /WaPo lies about Obama certificate (+SPLC joins in) - 10/06/09

Liza Mundy of the Washington Post offers "Burden of Proof on Obama's Origins" (link), a three-screen, mostly smear piece on Orly Taitz of the "Birthers" movement. Leaving aside Taitz' various claims, Mundy has a problem with the truth. (Note that she's also the author of a presumably sympathetic biography of Michelle Obama; she whines about the lack of cooperation from the Obama camp at slate.com/id/2202261). Mundy quotes Taitz as saying of Obama's records "Nobody has seen proper documents. Period." and follows that with this: Another breathtaking statement, or rather misstatement. After...

"Health Equity for All": racial power groups push healthcare reform ("new majority") - 10/05/09

A group of far-left organizations have created "Health Equity for All" (healthequityforall.org) to push for "universal health care reform". And, they're doing it from an explicitly race-based standpoint and being quite explicit about their attempts to gain race-based power.

ACLU-Mexico partnership calls for nearly open borders; "humanitarian crisis" they helped cause - 09/30/09

In April 2008, the San Diego chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union announced a collaboration with Mexico’s National Commission of Human Rights, a quasi-governmental agency. They've now released a report in which they - surprise - oppose border enforcement and call for what would amount to nearly open borders. The report is entitled "Humanitarian Crisis: Migrant Deaths at the U.S.-Mexico Border", but what they fail to note is the role that they and all others who oppose immigration enforcement have played in those deaths. If the ACLU and other far-left and racial power groups had...

WaPo corrects Darryl Fears, Carol Leonnig race card smear of ACORN sting videomakers - 09/22/09

On 9/18/09, Darryl Fears and Carol Leonnig of the Washington Post offered "The $1,300 Mission to Fell ACORN/Duo in Sting Video Say Their Effort Was Independent" (link), an attempt by the WaPo to undercut the recent undercover reporting videos showing highly questionable activity by ACORN workers. Now, the WaPo has corrected a smear that Fears and Leonnig put in the article: This article about the community organizing group ACORN incorrectly said that a conservative journalist targeted the organization for hidden-camera videos partly because its voter-registration drives bring Latinos and...

E.J. Dionne sells Obamacare for illegal aliens - 09/15/09

EJ Dionne of the Washington Post writes of the Joe Wilson "You lie!" outburst and the topic of illegal aliens being covered under Obama healthcare (link). In this bit he lets you know that he's just a disingenuous hack whose opinions can't be trusted: For the record, Wilson's premise is itself untrue: The framers of the various Democratic health-care bills did all they could to make sure their proposals wouldn't help illegal immigrants. Yes, a few might slip through the cracks and -- horrors! -- get assistance. But the health reformers wrote language as tough as it could be to make sure this...

Schumer, Senate Democrats discuss their immigration plans, including a national ID card - 06/24/09

Spencer Hsu of the Washington Post discusses a press conference Senate Democrats held earlier today to discuss their plans for comprehensive immigration reform (link). As previously discussed, Charles Schumer supports a national ID: "I'm sure the civil libertarians will object to some kind of biometric card -- although . . . there'll be all kinds of protections -- but we're going to have to do it. It's the only way," Schumer said. "The American people will never accept immigration reform unless they truly believe their government is committed to ending future illegal immigration." It's quite...

WaPo: "Sotomayor Speeches Woven With Ethnicity"; "The Latina in me is an ember that blazes forever"; "sister power" - 06/06/09

Sonia Sotomayor is so deeply enmeshed in far-left concepts like ethnic nationalism that even the Washington Post isn't trying to hide it.

Sonia Sotomayor: affirmative action nominee for Supreme Court? Close to far-left Puerto Rico extremists? - 05/26/09

[SEE THE UPDATES] Judge Sonia Sotomayor is Barack Obama's choice to replace David Souter on the US Supreme Court. Weak GOP talking points are here; Peter Baker and Jeff Zeleny (remember him?) have the New York Times' take here. Was she selected only because of her outstanding grasp of legal issues? Or, was at least part of the selection due to the fact that she's a woman and a Hispanic? Were there more qualified possibilities who didn't happen to fit the politically-friendly uniform? If so, then she is indeed an affirmative action pick, despite the many attempts to claim otherwise we'll be...

Ezra Klein /WaPo supports universal healthcare for illegal aliens, thinks INS still exists - 05/19/09

Ezra Klein - newest intern/blogger at the Washington Post - offers "A Bit More on Immigration and Health Reform" (link) in which he supports giving universal healthcare to illegal aliens:

DHS to check for criminal aliens at all local jails by 2012; possible 10x increase in such deportations; prelude to amnesty? - 05/19/09

Spencer Hsu of the Washington Post offers "U.S. to Expand Immigration Checks to All Local Jails/Obama Administration's Enforcement Push Could Lead to Sharp Increase in Deportation Cases" (link). The Department of Homeland Security's ICE currently checks state and federal inmates to determine whether they're illegal aliens (or perhaps legal immigrants) who are deportable. The Obama administration intends to extend that to all local jails by 2012: Based on the pilot program, the agency estimates that if fingerprints from all 14 million bookings in local jails each year were screened, about 1.4...

Angela Kelley/CAP, Gary Langer/ABC News admit: immigration "reform" is amnesty - 05/12/09

One of the games that illegal immigration supporters like to play is to pretend that comprehensive immigration reform isn't amnesty; they use a variety of misleading euphemisms, such as "earned legalization" and so on. But, sometimes the mask slips, as it did with Angela Kelley of the Center for American Progress. Referring to the recent Washington Post/ABC News poll, she says (americanprogress.org/issues/2009/05/immigration_friends.html): In fact, in the poll a majority of Democrats, Republicans, Independents, moderates, and conservatives supported an Amnesty Program. "Seven in 10 liberals...

Washington Post /ABC News poll shows 61% favor illegal alien legalization; didn't ask about citizenship - 05/12/09

Last month, the Washington Post and ABC News conducted a telephone poll that included this question (link): Would you support or oppose a program giving ILLEGAL immigrants now living in the United States the right to live here LEGALLY if they pay a fine and meet other requirements? 61% supported that vs. 35% against, up from 49/46, 51/44, and 52/44 in the second half of 2007. The uptick in support is slightly worrisome, as is the fact that this poll can be spun as supportive of comprehensive immigration reform when it doesn't include a main component of most CIR plans: a "path to citizenship...

Sally Quinn drools all over Michelle Obama's arms - 05/10/09

Washington Post "Staff Writer" Sally Quinn offers "The Nation's Embracing, and Embraceable, Arms" (link): "May I change the subject," said a prominent Washington theologian at a recent dinner. The conversation had been high-minded -- religion, philosophy, the nature of evil. "I'd like to talk about Michelle Obama's arms," he said. He is a big fan of those arms. We then began a discussion about the significance of the first lady's arms. Actually, it turned out to be equally serious. Michelle Obama's arms, we determined, were transformational. Her arms are representative of a new kind of woman...

DHS budget: no additional miles for border fence; concentrating on "virtual fence" (+287g?) - 05/08/09

Peggy Sherry, Acting Chief Financial Officer for the Department of Homeland Security, recently conducted a conference call about Barack Obama's budget for the DHS and a transcript is

David Montgomery /WaPo: nearly no real reporting in Luis Gutierrez puff piece - 05/08/09

David Montgomery of the Washington Post offers a five-screen puff piece (link) on far-left amnesty supporter Rep. Luis Gutierrez and his recent "Family Unity Tour" that completely fails to call him on his many disreputable statements, such as the time he called ICE agents "Gestapo agents". The article fails to call Gutierrez on the many huge flaws in the comprehensive immigration reform that he supports. This is the only part of the article that discusses actual policy: Gutierrez and his allies generally define immigration reform to include an end to workplace raids and deportations that...

Doug Feaver /WaPo issues defense of comments on their articles - 04/12/09

Former Washington Post editor Doug Feaver - mentioned before here - offers "Listening to the Dot-Commenters" (link). While, as before, what he considers "racism" may not actually be what he thinks it is, the article also stands opposed to WaPo reporters like Darryl Fears who didn't want them to have comments at all. I am writing in defense of the anonymous, unmoderated, often appallingly inaccurate, sometimes profane, frequently off point and occasionally racist reader comments that washingtonpost.com allows to be published at the end of articles and blogs... I have come to think that online...

DHS halting immigration raids pending policy change; may "go after employers" instead - 03/29/09

About a month ago, Janet Napolitano of the Department of Homeland Security - someone who was sold as tough on illegal immigration despite that not being true - went through the roof after an immigration raid was conducted that she hadn't been informed of. Now, there's partial confirmation that Napolitano has in fact ordered a halt to such workplace enforcement pending review. Spencer Hsu of the Washington Post offers "DHS Signals Policy Changes Ahead for Immigration Raids" (link): Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano has delayed a series of proposed immigration raids and other...

WaPo admits: Maryland driver's licenses are incredibly insecure, open to fraud (advocating two-tier system?) - 03/29/09

When even the Washington Post notices a problem relating to immigration, you know it's a real problem. Thus it is that NC Aizenman and Lisa Rein offer "Easy-to-Get Licenses Expose Md. to Fraud/Out-of-State Illegal Immigrants Exploit Rules" (link). The WaPo appears to be trying to get Maryland to pass a Real ID-compliant two-tier licensing scheme under which illegal aliens would get a license to drive but not to do much more. However, while there is some PC beating around the bush, there also isn't the outright advocacy we've come to expect from the WaPo: Maryland ...has become a magnet for...

Some questioners at Obama town hall were plants (SEIU, donors, etc.) - 03/27/09

At yesterday's Barack Obama town hall meeting, some of those who asked questions live at the event - as distinguished from those who submitted questions online - were plants with connections to the White House or other Beltway establishments. Garance Franke Ruta of the Washington Post says: the five fully identified questioners called on randomly by the president in the East Room were anything but a diverse lot. They included: a member of the pro-Obama Service Employees International Union, a member of the Democratic National Committee who campaigned for Obama among Hispanics during the...

Kathleen Parker now apologist for mainstream media - 03/15/09

Kathleen Parker of the Washington Post offers "Frayed Thread in a Free Society" (link), an attempt to blame the problems the mainstream media is having not on the MSM itself but on its uninformed and misled readers. And, Rush Limbaugh is one of those misleading people about the MSM. The biggest challenge facing America's struggling newspaper industry may not be the high cost of newsprint or lost ad revenue, but ignorance stoked by drive-by punditry... There is surely room for media criticism, and a few bad actors in recent years have badly frayed public trust. And, yes, some newspapers are...

Greg Sargent downplays illegal aliens taking stimulus bill jobs - 03/11/09

Greg Sargent - a lightweight online "reporter" previously associated with Josh Marshall - now works for "Who Runs Gov", a Washington Post publication. A recent post follows talking points from others and tries to downplay the fact that - due to actions taken by high-level Democrats - a very large number of illegal aliens will be able to get jobs under the stimulus plan [1]: Mainstream news outlets such as USA Today and CNN have pushed this line, citing a "study" done by a self-described immigration "think tank" that happens to promote anti-immigration materials. But a quick look at the facts...

Assignment: is Daniel de Vise/WaPo telling the truth about "ESOL Students in Md., Va. Leaping Ahead of U.S. Peers"? - 03/01/09

Daniel de Vise of the Washington Post offers "ESOL Students in Md., Va. Leaping Ahead of U.S. Peers" (link), which is the latest in a sub-genre of American-demoting, immigration/illegal alien-promoting articles from the mainstream media.

Paul Farhi /WaPo gloats over Joe the Plumber, shows Beltway interest in heartland Americans - 02/26/09

Paul Farhi of the Washington Post offers "Joe the Author, Plumbing New Lows in Interest" (link), a slab of hackwork showing how much the Beltway establishment dislikes Americans from the heartland, especially of the conservative variety. (For a related campaign that also involved the WaPo, see the Sarah Palin smear posts.) If JTP were in a DC establishment-approved occupation or class, articles like this would never have been written. Instead, the coverage would match that last seen in Socialist Realism. As proof of that, here are the more pungent parts of the article with "Joe the...

Phuong Ly /Washington Post's five screen ad for anti-American DREAM Act - 02/25/09

Freelance writer and former Washington Post staffer Phuong Ly offers "The Outsider" (link), a five screen ad for the anti-American DREAM Act.

Did Anne Kornblut of the Washington Post overhype White House technical problems? - 01/23/09

Yesterday, Anne Kornblut of the Washington Post offered "Staff Finds White House in the Technological Dark Ages" (link), a story presumably designed to appeal to tech-savvy Obama supporters: If the Obama campaign represented a sleek, new iPhone kind of future, the first day of the Obama administration looked more like the rotary-dial past... "It is kind of like going from an Xbox to an Atari," Obama spokesman Bill Burton said of his new digs... The [new-media] team members, accustomed to working on Macintoshes, found computers outfitted with six-year-old versions of Microsoft software. Now,...

Obama transition met with CHIRLA (group allegedly linked to Mexican government) - 01/21/09

Earlier today, a mass therapy session for illegal immigration supporters was held in Washington DC, as hundreds of them marched to the headquarters of Immigration and Customs Enforcement whereupon they banged on drums, waved banners, and conducted mock ceremonies attempting to "cleanse" the building. No, really: "Immigrant Advocates Call for End to Raids" by NC Aizenman, link. None of those named are major figures, and this was just a show. However, this part at the end is interesting: Antonio Bernabe, an organizer with the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles (CHIRLA) and one...

Ninety four wealthy families gave Obama campaign $14.4 million - 01/18/09

From our "Now They Tell Us!" file, the Washington Post offers "The Donors Who Gave Big, and Often" by Kimberly Kindy and Sarah Cohen, link. 94 wealthy individuals, couples, and families were able to donate $14.4 million to the Obama campaign by taking advantage of various loopholes regarding being able to donate to different entities. And, some of those loopholes were brought to us due to McCain Feingold. Some of those donors were also bundlers, with six of the 94 bundling $500,000 or more. While the full dollar amount they contributed is even less than the amount of questionable foreign...

Pew Hispanic poll: immigration far eclipsed by economy - 01/15/09

A new Pew Hispanic poll provides some evidence that immigration issues aren't as vital an issue to Latinos as hacks try to tell us. The summary and PDF with the full results is here. Here are the percentages for "extremely important": 57%: The economy 51%: Education 45%: Healthcare 43%: National security 33%: The environment 31%: Immigration 20%: Energy policy Note that two surveys were conducted, and all adults Latinos were eligible. Thus, the persons answering that question could be Puerto Ricans, native born Mexican-Americans, legal immigrants, illegal aliens, or so on. Further...

Carrie Johnson /WaPo smears opponents of Obama, immigration (rise in "hate", SPLC) - 01/11/09

Carrie Johnson of the Washington Post offers "Bad Economy May Fuel Hate Groups, Experts Warn/Experts Warn That Downturn Could Drive Discontent, Help Extremists Recruit" (link), which is basically the same article as that offered by Jesse Washington of the AP and others back in November, albeit updated for the current economic conditions. She starts out with the possibility that Obama's win, immigration, and the slumping economy could lead to rising membership in "hate" groups. Aside from the "experts" quoted, she provides no evidence in support of her assertion, and at the end she provides...

Shock: Michael Chertoff used cleaning company that employed illegal aliens - 12/10/08

Michael Hsu of the Washington Post offers the latest in that newspaper's attempt to undercut our laws: "Cleaning Firm Used Illegal Workers at Chertoff Home", link. The Maryland cleaning service used by Michael Chertoff of the Department of Homeland Security has been fined almost $23,000 for failing to check the IDs of its workers, some of whom were illegal aliens. The Secret Service checked the IDs of the workers who visited Chez Chertoff, but those didn't involve immigration checks. Which is pretty stupid, but unless I missed it there's no indication that any of those who cleaned Chertoff's...

Dana Milbank lies about Obama birth certificate - 12/09/08

Dana Milbank of the Washington Post offers "President Alien, and Other Tales From the Fringe" (link), about a press conference held by Philip Berg following the Supreme Court's decision not to hear the Donofrio case which claimed that Barack Obama is a dual citizen and ineligible for the presidency. And, it's not a big surprise that Milbank lied. Discussing statements made by Berg, he says: Uh, and what about that birth certificate showing he was born in Honolulu, a fact confirmed by the Hawaii Health Department and validated by independent groups? The state of Hawaii never confirmed where...

Xavier Becerra: new U.S. Trade Representative? (meets Obama in Chicago) update: declines the offer - 12/04/08

Andrea Mitchell says that Representative Xavier Becerra - Democrat representing Los Angeles - is in Chicago to meet with Barack Obama over the possibility of become U.S. Trade Representative: Becerra voted for NAFTA in 1993, a vote he later said he regretted because of the lack of labor protections. He also supported China's World Trade Organization membership in 2000, and last year he pushed for passage of the trade deal with Peru, after labor protections were added. In the past, he also has opposed trade deals -- like the Central American Free Trade Pact. Meanwhile, the identity...

20,000 U.S. military troops to help with "homeland security" in U.S. by 2011 - 12/01/08

Spencer Hsu and Ann Scott Tyson of the Washington Post offers "Pentagon to Detail Troops to Bolster Domestic Security" (link), which is currently being linked by Drudge: The U.S. military expects to have 20,000 uniformed troops inside the United States by 2011 trained to help state and local officials respond to a nuclear terrorist attack or other domestic catastrophe, according to Pentagon officials. The long-planned shift in the Defense Department's role in homeland security was recently backed with funding and troop commitments after years of prodding by Congress and outside experts,...

Raul Grijalva considered for Interior Secretary in Obama administration (Juliet Eilperin/WaPo) - 11/23/08

Juliet Eilperin of the Washington Post informs us (link) the Democratic U.S. Representative Raul Grijalva is in the running to be Secretary of the Department of the Interior. See the link for much more on him, including the fact that he's a strong supporter of illegal immigration and a proud former member of the racial separatist group MEChA. Needless to say, Eilperin doesn't tell her readers that: Grijalva's experience and background meshes nicely with some of the Obama team's top requirements. The son of a migrant worker who grew up in Tucson, Grijalva boasts a strong environmental record...
