A full list of those invited to tonight's White House state dinner - the one featuring arugula (no, really) - is here. In addition to a large number of Indian names that I don't recognize, here are some that seem more than a bit interesting:
Newsweek "Most Overblown Fears" of decade include immigration and globalization (Ilan Stavans, Tom Friedman) - 11/22/09
Newsweek has released a list of the top 10 "Most Overblown Fears" of the decade, and most of the items are things most people have already forgotten about. However, two things on the list are those that the corrupt elites would dearly love to be overblown fears: immigration and globalization.
For the first, "Mexican-born immigrant" Ilan Stavans of Amherst College runs-down his adopted country, engages in various fallacies, and fails to offer any sort of counter-argument to his opponents' claims (2010.newsweek.com/top-10/most-overblown-fears/immigrants.html):

Thomas Friedman/NYT's anti-American, anti-Indian ad for H-1Bs - 02/11/09
Thomas Friedman of the New York Times - last seen here offering an idiotic smear of Sarah Palin - now offers "The Open-Door Bailout " (link). It's basically an ad for the H1B program. Rather than having a life-changing conversation with an Egyptian cab driver, this time the "slightly tongue-in-cheek" words of wisdom are offered by an Indian newspaper editor, who offers this alternative stimulus plan:
"All you need to do is grant visas to two million Indians, Chinese and Koreans... We will buy up all the subprime homes. We will work 18 hours a day to pay for them. We will immediately improve...
Thomas Friedman/NYT: wimpy, unintelligent smearer of Sarah Palin - 10/08/08
Thomas Friedman of the New York Times offers "Palin's Kind of Patriotism" in which he sleazily questions Sarah Palin's patriotism (link). It starts out with this:
Criticizing Sarah Palin is truly shooting fish in a barrel. But given the huge attention she is getting, you can't just ignore what she has to say.
If someone said the same first sentence about BHO, the Huffington Post would go to red alert, and might even call the Secret Service.
But, Thomas L. Friedman is right about one thing: it's easy to criticize Palin, because she's disfavored by the establishment. Friedman is just a bullying...
