Obama's mini-amnesty is so bad Luis Gutierrez supports it - 08/31/11

How bad is Obama's mini-amnesty that would cover up to (and maybe more than) 300,000 illegal aliens? Bad enough to win the support of Rep. Luis Gutierrez (see the link).

Dozens of pro-illegal immigration groups were invited to Obama's mini-amnesty rollout and you weren't - 08/25/11

On August 18, Barack Obama's Department of Homeland Security announced an administrative amnesty that could cover 300,000 or more illegal aliens.

Obama declares administrative mini-amnesty: will review all 300,000 facing deportation hearings (UPDATE: open the floodgates?) - 08/18/11

Barack Obama has repeatedly stated that he can't declare a blanket amnesty via executive order to cover all the 10-12+ million illegal aliens in the U.S. However, he's just come close by declaring a mini-amnesty that will cover up to 300,000 illegal aliens (link).

Big Business wants more skilled immigration; Alejandro Mayorkas does their bidding as fast as he can (USCIS, U.S. Chamber, NFAP, AILA, Jacoby, USCCB) - 08/18/11

The National Foundation for American Policy has released a compendium of suggestions to increase skilled immigration [1]. The groups offering suggestions include the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the AILA, and Tamar Jacoby; see [2] for more.

Whitehouse has an attitude problem: favors skilled immigration over U.S. entrepreneurs (Cecilia Munoz, Aneesh Chopra) - 08/15/11

The Obama administration recently announced that they'll be increasing skilled immigration, no Congressional approval required. Only after doing that did they solicit input from citizens by asking for comments on Twitter and Facebook [1].

Obama at NCLR: "yes, but..." on immigration enforcement; promotes jobs for possible illegal alien construction workers; DREAM Act; comprehensive reform... - 07/25/11

Barack Obama appeared at the National Council of La Raza convention earlier today; see the last link for our extensive coverage of that group. His unremarkable remarks are at [1]: he didn't really say anything that he hasn't said before. As he's done before, he misled, such as by using the system is broken canard.

Gary Locke, Carlos Gutierrez mislead; support braindraining the world with skilled immigration - 07/17/11

Current Department of Commerce secretary Gary Locke and his predecessor Carlos Gutierrez offer the editorial "Building competitiveness through immigration reform" [1].

Supreme Court upholds 2007 Arizona immigration enforcement law; eVerify; losing: US Chamber, DOJ, Berman, NCLR, ADL, SPLC, AILA, SEIU, LULAC - 05/26/11

In a major victory for states that want to reduce illegal immigration, the US Supreme Court has upheld Arizona's 2007 "Legal Arizona Workers Act" employer enforcement law that requires the use of eVerify and that allows Arizona to pull the business licenses of companies that knowingly hire illegal aliens. Note that the 2007 law and the decision have no relation to Arizona's more recent immigration law. A Los Angeles Times article is here, and links to legal documents are here. Sonia Sotomayor voted in dissent; see her name's link. Those who opposed Arizona's law in court and who lost today...

Supreme Court orders California to release >30,000 prisoners; how much overcrowding due to illegal immigration? (ACLU) - 05/23/11

The US Supreme Court has ordered the state of California to release at least 30,000 state prisoners in order to reduce overcrowding (link, excerpt at [1]). What you probably won't hear from many others is the role that massive immigration - especially of the illegal variety - has played in this matter. According to a Public Policy Institute of California study, "[i]n 2005, there were 28,279 foreign born adults and 139,419 U.S.-born adults in California prisons". Not all of the former are illegal aliens; in fact, it appears that statistics on the numbers of illegal aliens in California prisons...

Obama misleads about immigration yet again (May 10, 2011 El Paso version) - 05/10/11

For the past three years or so, Barack Obama has been giving the same immigration speech. In fact, his speeches about the topic aren't that much different from those that George W Bush and a multitude of other hacks have read.

Obama misleads on immigration at Facebook; Zuckerberg and incompetent/corrupt GOP, Teaparty leaders help - 04/21/11

Barack Obama spoke live over Facebook yesterday at an event sponsored by that company. He misled about immigration and promoted an anti-American bill. He got direct help with his attempt to mislead from Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, and he got indirect help from corrupt or incompetent GOP and Teaparty leaders:

Obama meets with "stakeholders" for amnesty propaganda push ("immigration reform") - 04/19/11

Earlier today, Barack Obama met with a group of 70 "stakeholders" to discuss a new push for comprehensive immigration reform. The stakeholders in question represent only a small number of Americans; see the list below.

Obama admits problems caused by mass immigration; panders to illegal aliens; takes foreign citizens' side; opposes non-criminal deportations - 03/29/11

Barack Obama spoke at Bell Multicultural High School in Washington DC yesterday at a townhall conducted in Spanish for the Univision network. The host was anchor Jorge Ramos, a U.S.

Who in the DOJ knew about "gun walking"? (ATF letting guns go to Mexico) - 03/28/11

"Project Gunrunner" was a BATF scheme in which they encouraged gun stores to sell to those who were likely to send the purchased guns to Mexico to be used in that country's drug wars. Two of those guns might have been used to kill Border Patrol agent Brian Terry and ICE agent Jamie Zapata. The supposed goal of Gunrunner was to trace the guns to Mexico in order to catch the higher-ups, but it apparently had very little success. And, it would be nearly impossible for their not to be a political component. The Obama administration has been harping on guns being sent to Mexico for two years,...

GAO: DHS has "operational control" of just 44% of the border; only 15% is "controlled" - 02/17/11

According to a new GAO (Government Accountability Office) report, the Department of Homeland Security only has "operational control" of 44% of the U.S.-Mexico border, and only 15% of the border is "controlled" (the highest level that GAO measured). A write-up is here and the PDF is at this link. On the plus side, the percentage under operational control has been rising over the past five years (see the chart in the PDF). And, in some cases (such as around Big Bend in Texas) the terrain might make crossing much more difficult and thus much less likely than around San Diego. Note also that the...

Arizona sues feds for failing to enforce border, immigration laws - 02/10/11

Last year, the Department of Justice sued Arizona over that state's immigration law SB1070. Now, Arizona has returned the favor by countersuing the feds, making the obviously correct claim that the feds aren't enforcing our immigration laws as they should. Whether the countersuit will succeed isn't clear, but at the least it might help air just how derelict in their duties the Department of Homeland Security has been. From this: The lawsuit alleges that the federal government has failed in five areas: * To achieve and maintain "operational control" of the border. * To protect Arizona against...

Over a million immigrants got U.S. jobs 2008-2010 (legal and illegal) - 01/20/11

Reuters reports (link): Over the past two years, as U.S. unemployment remained near double-digit levels and the economy shed jobs in the wake of the financial crisis, over a million foreign-born arrivals to America found work, many illegally. Those are among the findings of a review of U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and Census Bureau data conducted exclusively for Reuters by researchers at the Center for Labor Market Studies at Northeastern University in Boston. This is something I've been highlighting for over two years; see the entries on the unemployment and Obama immigration pages. And,...

Unpresidential: Whitehouse.gov promotes, misleads about anti-American DREAM Act (Stephanie Valencia) - 12/03/10

The White House blog has a completely unpresidential post called "10 Reasons We Need The DREAM Act" [1] in which staffer Stephanie Valencia [2] promotes - and misleads about - the anti-American DREAM Act. That bill would let the illegal aliens covered by it take college educations away from U.S.

Cecilia Munoz misleads about DREAM Act (White House "Open for Questions") - 11/30/10

The half-hour video below features Cecilia Munoz of the Barack Obama administration promoting the anti-American DREAM Act in an online chat yesterday. Some of the ways she misled viewers are discussed below. Munoz was formerly with the National Council of La Raza and there's more about her at her name's link. Nowadays she's the "Deputy Assistant to the President and Director of Intergovernmental Affairs" and in the chat she fielded a series of questions from her side and bad questions from those on the other side; all of the latter she was able to deflect with ease. Since the questions were...

Pew: illegal immigration inflow fell (Obama not involved; Bush responsible for 5 million; 60% from Mexico; 9.3% of CA's workforce) - 09/04/10

Pew Hispanic recently released a study entitled "U.S. Unauthorized Immigration Flows Are Down Sharply Since Mid-Decade" (link). There are links to two previous studies with similar findings by the Department of Homeland Security and the Center for Immigration Studies here. According to Pew's study: The annual inflow of unauthorized immigrants to the United States was nearly two-thirds smaller in the March 2007 to March 2009 period than it had been from March 2000 to March 2005... ...This sharp decline has contributed to an overall reduction of 8% in the number of unauthorized immigrants...

DOJ sues Joe Arpaio over civil rights investigation documents - 09/02/10

The Department of Justice has sued Joe Arpaio - sheriff of Maricopa County - claiming that he's obstructed their investigation into possible racial profiling. This is, needless to say, the Obama administration's latest attack on Arizona in an attempt to prevent states from doing the job the federal government won't do: try to reduce illegal immigration. And, those attacks are preventable if people would work to reduce illegal immigration in smart ways. From the DOJ's press release [1]: The department filed today’s lawsuit after exhausting all cooperative measures to gain access to MCSO’s...

Obama admin not deporting some who are deportable; Houston; test program? - 08/25/10

From this: The Department of Homeland Security is systematically reviewing thousands of pending immigration cases and moving to dismiss those filed against suspected illegal immigrants who have no serious criminal records, according to several sources familiar with the efforts. Culling the immigration court system dockets of noncriminals started in earnest in Houston about a month ago and has stunned local immigration attorneys, who have reported coming to court anticipating clients' deportations only to learn that the government was dismissing their cases. Richard Rocha, an Immigration and...

Obama admin UN Human Rights Council report mentions Arizona immigration law, 287g - 08/25/10

The site impeachobamacampaign.com offers the somewhat inflated post "Obama Hauls Arizona Before the UN Human Rights Council" (link) about the Obama administration's report to the United Nations Human Rights Council (PDF at [1]). The administration's report mentions both their suit against the new Arizona immigration law and their changes to the 287g program as examples of how the U.S. cares about the human rights of immigrants. I've seen far worse things than those statements and I can't find anything overly surprising in them. However, others disagree (link). I'm also failing to see how...

Five things you can do about the Obama administration suing over Arizona's immigration law - 07/06/10

[NOTE: See also a discussion of the June 25, 2012 Supreme Court ruling] The Obama administration is suing Arizona over their new immigration law, and here are five things you can do. Please don't just read this and move on; if you want to oppose the lawsuit take a few moments and send the link to this page - or just your summary of one of the steps - to your social networks:

Obama immigration speech, July 1, 2010 - 07/01/10

On Thursday, July 1, 2010, Barack Obama gave a speech in support of comprehensive immigration reform and his remarks are at whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/remarks-president-comprehensive-immigration-reform In recent days, the issue of immigration has become once more a source of fresh contention in our country, with the passage of a controversial law in Arizona and the heated reactions we’ve seen across America. Some have rallied behind this new policy. Others have protested and launched boycotts of the state. And everywhere, people have expressed frustration with a system that seems...

Obama, Democrat, far-left opposition to Arizona immigration law giving comfort to Mexico - 06/23/10

Sara Miller Llana of the Christian Science Monitor lets us know that "Mexico sees silver lining in Arizona immigration law" (link). You might call it giving comfort (if not aid), but that's only because you're an American: From the view south of the border, times could not be worse in terms of America's disregard for Mexico. But a curious thing is happening. Mexicans are also seeing a new level of American discontent percolating over US immigration initiatives, much of it coming from unexpected corners. “I know that there are many Americans for the law, but there are many against it too,”...

Kyl: Obama says he won't secure the border without comprehensive immigration reform (UPDATE: backtracks?) - 06/20/10

[See the second update] The attached video (around 3:40, available at peekURL.com/v6robbv ) has Senator Jon Kyl making this shocking claim about a private meeting he had with Barack Obama: "Here's what the president said. The problem is, he said, if we secure the border, then you all won’t have any reason to support comprehensive immigration reform. In other words, they’re holding it hostage. They don’t want to secure the border unless and until it is combined with comprehensive immigration reform. There isn't much reason for Kyl not to be telling the truth, and his claim matches the actions...

DOJ may challenge Arizona immigration law: what to do - 06/18/10

Earlier this month in an interview with TV reporter in Ecuador, Hillary Clinton stated that the Department of Justice will be challenging the new Arizona immigration law in court. I was a bit skeptical since she's not the DOJ and she might have been basing it on an assumption rather than knowledge. However, CBS News now offers this (link): Now a senior administration official tells CBS News that the federal government will indeed formally challenge the law when Justice Department lawyers are finished building the case. The official said Justice is still working on building the case. Contacted...

Do Peruvians think they can move to the U.S. at will? (Carla Salazar) - 06/01/10

Carla Salazar of the Associated Press offers a Topsy-Turvy World article called "Peruvian child becomes symbol of US undocumented" [1] about the seven-year-old girl who revealed to Michelle Obama that her mother was here illegally, causing Michelle Obama to advocate for

Obama wants $500 million to send National Guard to secure the border (prelude to amnesty) - 05/25/10

Barack Obama wants Congress to allocate $500 million in order to send up to 1200 National Guard troops to the border. Per an unnamed administration official (link): "[The troops will] provide intelligence; surveillance and reconnaissance support; intelligence analysis; immediate support to counternarcotics enforcement; and training capacity until Customs and Border Patrol can recruit and train additional officers and agents to serve on the border... [the funding will be used to] enhance technology at the border, share information and support with state, local, and tribal law enforcement, and...

Chart showing deportations by fiscal year is misleading (Obama vs. Bush administration) - 05/23/10

The attached chart (from Frank Sharry of America's Voice) tries to claim that the Barack Obama administration is deporting illegal aliens at an even greater rate than George W Bush. The chart is misleading for at least two reasons:

Obama slams Arizona immigration law at press conference with Mexico's president - 05/19/10

Video of the first part of Barack Obama and Felipe Calderon of Mexico speaking earlier today at the White House is at peekURL.com/vogmji4 and the second part is at peekURL.com/vcwo6we

Obama lies about Arizona law, misleads on immigration, uses one of Bush's lines - 04/28/10

Barack Obama spoke at a townhall meeting in Ottumwa, Iowa yesterday and was asked the following extremely bad question: And I was just wondering what your plan was for our undocumented workers who have established our country? The White House transcript is at [1] and the video is at peekurl.com/vlxqpg5 It's unclear whether the questioner meant "established themselves in our country" or not; if she meant what she said that's straight out of MEChA 101 (El Plan de Aztlan: "Aztlan belongs to those who plant the seeds, water the fields, and gather the crops and not to the foreign Europeans")...

Obama admin will fight Arizona immigration law; DOJ; "misguided" - 04/23/10

Speaking at a naturalization ceremony earlier today, Barack Obama in effect indicated that his administration will use the Department of Justice to oppose Arizona's new, tough immigration bill if it becomes law. Among other things: (If the federal government doesn't work towards comprehensive immigration reform) "it will open the door to irresponsibility by others... ...That includes, for example, the recent efforts in Arizona, which threaten to undermine basic notions of fairness that we cherish as Americans, as well as the trust between police and their communities that is so crucial to...

Will Scott Brown cave on amnesty? Obama hopes so. - 04/20/10

The tea parties might have struck again, helping elect a senator who - even if he offers initial opposition - will cave to a compromise on comprehensive immigration reform (aka amnesty). The senator, of course, is Scott Brown (link): Brown, in an interview with the Journal’s Neil King Jr., said [Obama called him to give him] a heads-up that immigration was coming down the pike and he should give it some serious thought. The senator promised to look closely at the bipartisan bill that Sens. Lindsey Graham (R., S.C.) and Charles Schumer (D., N.Y.) are trying to produce. “He called me originally...

Luis Gutierrez threatens to discourage Latino voting unless amnesty; says there might be civil disobedience - 04/20/10

From this: (Rep. Luis Gutierrez) is threatening that he will urge Latino voters to stay home this November if the Democratic Party does not make a concerted effort to pass comprehensive immigration reform. ..."We can stay home," Gutierrez said in an interview with The Hill. "We can say, 'You know what? There is a third option: We can refuse to participate.'" ...[Gutierrez] speaks of “anger, disillusionment, dissatisfaction” and “betrayal” [when talking about Obama]. He says Obama has failed to keep his campaign commitment to immigration reform, and he decries what he calls an “enforcement-...

Obama meets with black leaders on unemployment, Hispanic leaders on amnesty (+Graham, Schumer) - 03/11/10

Barack Obama met earlier today with two groups with competing interests, even if neither he nor most of the rest of the political establishment would even hint at that (link): [At a White House meeting earlier today] African-American members of Congress said they told the president that job creation is critical to their communities and that federal resources should be directed toward workforce training, specifically for infrastructure projects. Unemployment among black Americans was 15.8 percent in February, compared to the overall jobless rate of 9.7 percent nationally. "We talked about the...

Obama meets with Lindsey Graham, Chuck Schumer, wants amnesty bill - 03/05/10

Peter Nicholas of the Los Angeles Times offers "Obama looking to give new life to immigration reform" (link): [At a meeting on Monday], Obama and members of his Domestic Policy Council outlined ways to resuscitate the (comprehensive immigration reform aka amnesty) effort in a White House meeting with two senators -- Democrat (Charles Schumer) of New York and Republican Lindsey Graham of South Carolina -- who have spent months trying to craft a bill. According to a person familiar with the meeting, the White House may ask Schumer and Graham to at least produce a blueprint that could be turned...

Mexican senate unhappy; Obama's bogus border enforcement push not bogus enough - 02/07/10

The article with the translated title "Mexican Senate reproaches U.S. for measures against migrants" appeared in El Sol de Mexico on 2/4/10 and is translated here: The Senate of the Republic (of the Mexican government) approved sending a message to President Felipe Calderon so that he may ask the Government of the United States to reconsider the anti-immigrant measures intended to be taken in the neighboring country’s budget for 2011. All political parties of the Senate reproached the policy change of direction of the American President, Barack Obama, who has decided to go back on the promise...
