"Judge gives OK for Napolitano to sign Prop. 200 into law" - 12/08/04

PHOENIX - A federal judge has given the OK for Gov. Janet Napolitano to officially proclaim approval of Proposition 200. Judge David Bury, in an order released Wednesday, said Napolitano is free to declare that voters approved sections of the initiative which require proof of citizenship to register to vote and mandate that those seeking to cast a ballot must first present identification. That, in turn, permits the state to submit the change to the U.S.

"Redondo Beach temporarily blocked from arresting day laborers" - 12/07/04

SacBee: A federal judge on Monday temporarily blocked the city of Redondo Beach from arresting day laborers who solicit jobs on the street... In issuing a temporary restraining order, U.S. District Judge Consuelo Marshall said the city's policy could do "irreparable harm" to workers and questioned whether it was constitutional... ...If the city's attorneys are unable to show cause, the ban could be extended through the duration of the case, said Thomas Saenz, vice president of litigation for the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund... Saenz said his organization has identified...

"Concern Voiced Over Gonzales' Connections with La Raza" - 12/02/04

From this: ...the Washington, DC-based Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) is calling [White House counsel Alberto Gonzales] to task for his reported involvement with the National Council of La Raza, which has endorsed his nomination for attorney general... I don't think they should be compared with the KKK.

"Prop. 200 foes take challenge to court" - 11/30/04

AZ Republic: Proposition 200's latest legal saga begins today when its opponents seek a temporary restraining order in Tucson federal court to prevent the immigration measure from becoming law... The U.S. District Court judge could immediately grant the 10-day restraining order and prevent it from becoming law while a judge determines its constitutionality, or refuse to issue the order and let Proposition 200 become law.

Hillary's stealth issue for '08 - 11/26/04

[Cross-posted to the Command Post and redstate.org/story/2004/11/26/163449/72] NewsMax offers a roundup of Hillary being to the "right" of Bush on immigration matters: "Hillary Eyeing Immigration as Top 2008 Issue". There's no outright statement from her saying if she ran she'd make it a key part of her campaign, but some of the things she's said might make people think she's got that in mind.

"Record number of illegals deported from U.S." - 11/17/04

Here's some good news: A record 157,000 illegal immigrants were removed from the United States during the past year as U.S. authorities stepped up efforts to track down those who may pose security risks, the government said Tuesday. About half of those deported in the year ending Sept.

The Arizona Republic has a lesson for you - 09/26/04

The Arizona Republic - which has just about publicly announced its biases against Proposition 200 - has yet another fisk-worthy article: "Calif.'s lesson: Reforms don't stop illegal immigration." Rather than provide a full-on fisking, here's the summary. The first few paragraphs of the article match the headline. It looks like they're about to discuss "reforms" that didn't work, specifically California's Prop.

AZ Republicans rally for Protect Arizona Now - 09/16/04

From the WashTimes: An immigration initiative in Arizona that would require secure identification to vote in elections and to receive public benefits was endorsed yesterday by more than two dozen Republican state legislators and candidates at a rally outside the statehouse in Phoenix.

Party above all - 08/25/04

The draft GOP platform, according to the NYT: ...it also supports the expansion of legal immigration, a position that is already drawing opposition from some in the party's conservative base... On immigration, the platform supports Mr. Bush's call for a new temporary worker program that would also be open to some current illegal immigrants... It's definitely time for new GOP leadership.

"Immigrants Face Loss of Licenses in ID Crackdown" - 08/18/04

Oh no. Immigrants are being subjected to some form of crackdown? Let's read this NYT article: Legislatures across the country have been wrestling publicly with a hot-button issue: whether to make it harder or easier for illegal immigrants to be licensed as drivers.

"The Open Borders Lobby and the Nation's Security After 9/11" - 08/17/04

The long, footnoted article "The Open Borders Lobby and the Nation's Security After 9/11" shows the ties between various Open Borders groups.

Edwards and MALDEF - 07/06/04

Last year, John Edwards spoke to MALDEF, and the speech is here What's interesting is that he's speaking to MALDEF, a far-left group which is not a grass-roots group, but which was founded by the Ford Foundation. In his spe

L.A. Times uses a two-level proxy to attack those opposed to illegal immigration - 05/12/04

Here's a community commentary ("Day-laborer issue is about one thing, and it's not 'concern'") from Burbank resident Alfred Aboulsaad. It concerns Home Depot's plans to build a store in Burbank. They'd construct a day laborer center on-site, and pay the city of Burbank $94,000 a year to run it. Note that this appeared in the Burbank Leader, which appears to be owned by the Times. Thus, it's a two-level proxy. My first idea was to find out whether Mr.

A setback for the bad guys - 05/10/04

Mass illegal immigration advocate and U.S. Rep. Chris Cannon (R-UT) will now have to face challengers in the Utah GOP primary. That's the first time he's had to do that since 1998, and his stance on immigration probably had a great deal to do with it.

"The high-immigration Right is on the warpath" - 04/02/04

From Mark Krikorian in National Review [1]:

Miami Herald "endorses indentured servitude" - 03/22/04

That's what the Stein Report says regarding the Miami Herald's editorial supporting the AgJobs bill ('A win-win for growers, farmworkers, America'). That bill would provide an amnesty for half a million illegal aliens. As history shows, amnesties simply lead to more illegal immigration. One amnesty leads to more illegal immigration, which requires another amnesty, which leads to more illegal immigration, repeat. As for the claim that the editorial supports indentured servitude, judge for yourself: ...AgJobs sets up a process by which illegal immigrants already working in agriculture could...

Disinfopedia - 02/23/04

I just found about a Wiki project called 'Disinfopedia': ...a collaborative project to produce a directory of public relations firms, think tanks, industry-funded organizations and industry-friendly experts that work to influence public opinion and public policy on behalf of corporations, governments and special interests.

Has Prince Bandar been advising Bush on immigration? - 01/14/04

From Mark Krikorian's article "Immigration, Saudi Style": ...one question has not been asked during the week the Bush proposal has been debated: What would America's labor market, and society and polity, look like if Bush's plan were actually implemented? Some have suggested that immigration promotes the "Brazilianization" of our economy, as the rich benefit from the importation of servants while native-born blue-collar workers see their wages suffer. This is certainly true with regard to mass

What's the deal with the Ford Foundation? - 12/28/03

That's what I want to know. Consider this interview: "I don't think there's any question that the principles involved in the Ford Foundation now -- the current president Susan Berresford, her predecessor Franklin Thomas, and the people who -- on the staff who control the giving of the Ford Foundation -- have as its objective to destroy the immigration controls of this country, and they have funded organizations, litigation, ethnic lobbies, and others that have worked mightily for 30 years to dismantle a
