How the "California Hispanics vote suppression" story will end - 10/17/06

Several Orange County CA Hispanics have received a letter (written in Spanish) telling them in part: "You are advised that if your residence in this country is illegal or you are an immigrant, voting in a federal election is a crime that could result in jail time..." The AP version of this story has received wide distribution, even as far as France.

October 7 Atlanta march - 10/12/06

Was originally to be the September 30 Atlanta march but was rescheduled. One of the organizers is Teodoro Maus, a former Mexican consul general.

Not-so-FreeRepublic.com, Part 2 - 09/28/06

These Free Republic threads have at least two things in common: freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1709042/posts freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1709051/posts freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1709076/posts freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1709036/posts The first commonality is that they're all in FR's "f-chat" section, which, as it sounds, is for "chatty" things rather than the supposedly hard news section at "f-news".

The National Hispanic Media Coalition - 09/16/06

Los Angeles' Democratic mayor Antonio Villaraigosa recently "declared war" on KFI's John & Ken at a gala held by the National Hispanic Media Coalition. Here's some background on that group. The NHMC - together with MALDEF and many other far-left groups - is a member of the Los Angeles County Human Relations Commission's Media Image Coalition (lahumanrelations.org/programs/mic/members.htm), and this is their blurb about them (lahumanrelations.org/programs/mic/MediaImageMembersDetail.htm): The [NHMC]'s goals are 1) to improve the image of Hispanic-Americans as portrayed by the media and 2)...

AP ignores Peter Schey Mexican government links (Border Human Rights Working Group) - 08/24/06

An AP story about a recent crash fails to note a key affiliation of one of the groups mentioned. If you've never heard of the CHRCL, you might think they're just an ordinary "human rights" group: A border rights coalition asked federal officials Wednesday to suspend Border Patrol high-speed chases pending a review of a Yuma-area rollover two weeks ago that resulted in multiple deaths. The letter from the Los Angeles-based Center for Human Rights and Constitutional Law also asked Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff and the heads of Customs and Border Protection and the Border...

Schwarzenegger: Supporting Prop. 187 was an error - 07/25/06

This site translates this La Opinion article about an (English-language) interview with California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger: It was an error to support Proposal 187, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger admitted yesterday during a meeting with the editorial board of La Opinion.

USA Today: "Who supports illegal immigration?" - 05/30/06

As a follow-up to their critically acclaimed article "Nation splits 4 ways on illegals", USA Today will soon come out with an article called "Pro-illegal immigration groups split 7 ways". In the original story their "analysis" divided the nation into four groups: "hard-liners", "unconcerned", "ambivalent", and "welcoming". Only "hard-liners" want to enforce our laws.

Voting: the next demand illegal aliens will make - 04/06/06

Hundreds of thousands of foreign citizens recently marched in our streets, demanding to be given the rights of citizens. The Senate looks to capitulate to their demands, giving them some form of legality. Needless to say, this will set a very dangerous precedent. And, it will give a great deal more power to those on the other side and cause them to make even greater demands. The next demand I expect them to make concerns the right to vote.

Who's responsible for illegal immigration? - 03/28/06

By sending us millions of their citizens, Mexico has managed to obtain political power inside our country. As shown by the recent marches, that political power can be mobilized - whether in fact by Mexico or just by partisans - into a show of physical force. The U.S.

Georgia illegal aliens protest organized by former Mexican consul - 03/24/06

[See the first update for more] Tim Molloy of the AP offers a roundup of the recent protest by illegal aliens who are demanding rights to which they aren't entitled in the falsely-titled "Immigration Rallies Draw Thousands Nationwide". It contains the following: Teodoro Maus, an organizer of the Georgia protest, estimated as many as 80,000 Hispanics did not show up for work. Molloy or his editors are apparently too shy to tell us that Maus isn't just a member of the "Coordinating Committee of Community Leaders". He's also a former Mexican consul. As with other professions, whether anyone...

Coalition vows to defeat harsh immigration bill [HR 4437] - 01/20/06

From this: A U.S. coalition of business, labor unions and religious groups launched a campaign on Thursday to defeat a bill backed by Republicans that would turn some 11 million illegal immigrants into felons. The coalition of 24 organizations, many of which rarely agree on politics or economics, denounced the bill passed by the House of Representatives last month and called on the Senate to enact legislation to include a guest worker program and a path for illegal aliens to gain legal status. ..."We are extremely disappointed with the proposal that passed the House last month," said...

LULAC gets unaccustomed questioning - 01/14/06

I don't know how many times I've seen articles from the "so-called" "liberal" media featuring unopposed quotes from the League of United Latin American Citizens, MALDEF, NCLR, and similar racial power groups. The "reporters" become even more transcriptionists than usual when dealing with these groups, and I don't think I've ever seen a reporter call them on their obvious lies.

AJC: "House immigration bill crosses line" - 12/30/05

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution has a canard-packed editorial opposing HR 4437 here. Since it's a stock editorial such as the ones offered by the WaPo, discussing it in depth would be superfluous. However, they do include this: Members of organizations that teach English to immigrants or provide social services might be subject to jail terms, according to Jerry Gonzalez, executive director of the Georgia Associa

Urgent action needed: strengthen HR 4437 - 12/15/05

Rep. James Sensenbrenner, Jr. (R-WI) has proposed H.R. 4437, aka the "Border Protection, Antiterrorism, and Illegal Immigration Control Act of 2005". It contains some strong provisions against illegal immigration and a (probably deliberately) weak provision or two. The last might indicate that this bill is actually a trojan horse designed to make massive illegal immigration legal and help pave the way for a guest worker scheme.

"Labor's Hurricane George" - 10/26/05

From Froma Harrop: New Orleans offers a quick study of Bush labor policy in action: On Aug. 29, Hurricane Katrina strikes, causing widespread destruction. Four days later, President Bush commits $10.1 billion of the taxpayers' money to rebuilding New Orleans.

New Democratic Party slogans - 10/25/05

"Give us a chance, OK?" "Socialism doesn't necessarily imply Communism, you know. Please, read this pamphlet." "Only a few of our members want to reclaim Mexico's Lost Territories for that country. Most of us don't have a position on that yet." "Vote Democratic to Stop War and End Racism" "The People's Struggle against the Hegemonic Oppressors will not be Thwarted!

The West Wing, Vinick, Minuteman Project, illegal immigration, and clueless liberals - 10/10/05

On last night's show, The West Wing's crack writers featured Republican candidate Arnold Vinick (Alan Alda...???; NYT: "doing his fabulous mean-guy act"...???) proposing a "guest" worker plan in order to either get the "Latino vote" or hamstring his opponent, Matt Santos (Jimmy "Jiminy" Smits).

Will illegal aliens get voting rights because of corrupt Republicans? - 09/10/05

The Santa Barbara News-Press article "Latinos feel let down by governor" by Melinda Burns contains the following quote from "Carmen Herrera, an organizer for PUEBLO, a Santa Barbara-based group that advocates on behalf of the poor": "The governor has always said he does not support immigrants, and he never misses an opportunity to remind us of that... I don't understand why. He, too, was an immigrant once. He has been through what many of us have been through. But he has forgotten...

Wellington Webb: all power to the People of Color! - 08/21/05

Wellington Webb is the former mayor of Denver. He also started that city's illegal alien sanctuary policy that was in the news recently.

Bush, Big Business to join forces, oppose wishes of American public - 07/24/05

The L.A. Times has a two-pager on Bush's latest attempt to open the borders: "Immigration Rising on Bush's To-Do List". He's created a coalition called "Americans for Border and Economic Security" headed up by U.S. Reps. Cal Dooley (D-Hanford) and Dick Armey (R-Texas): The effort is designed to help Bush take control of an increasingly contentious debate that has threatened to split the Republican Party and undermine its outreach to Latino voters... A guest-worker program is favored by many Latinos and by businesses, many of them major GOP donors that depend on a steady flow of workers...

Pro-illegal immigration groups gather, are ignored - 06/04/05

Dan Stein reports: A coalition of illegal alien advocacy groups including MALDEF, CHIRLA, SEIU and several dozen protestors holding signs demanding amnesty for illegal aliens, held a news conference on the steps of the Los Angeles City Hall this afternoon... After the formal press conference, FAIR media direct

Jesse Jackson, MALDEF creating "human rights" group - 05/20/05

Disturbing news from the Reverend's latest junket: On the heels of a meeting with Mexican President Vicente Fox over his comments about American blacks, the Rev.

"Analysts say racism unrecognized" - 05/19/05

The Dallas Morning News article "Analysts say racism unrecognized" gives a bit more background on Vicente Fox's recent comment that Mexican illegal aliens do the jobs "that not even blacks want to do". President Vicente Fox's controversial comment about blacks in the United States is typical of a Mexico that fails to recognize its own racist attitudes, even as skin tone and economic success move in near lockstep, analy

Jesse Jackson and MALDEF go to Mexico - 05/19/05

Jesse Jackson shows exactly what type of person he is. When he first condemned Vicente Fox's remark that "[illegal aliens do the jobs] that not even blacks want to do" I (to a very minor extent) thought he might actually try to do some good.

Our cheap labor supplier to tour Arizona, make trouble - 03/08/05

MEXICO CITY - A group of Mexican senators is heading to Arizona to investigate the effects of Proposition 200 amid growing fears in Mexico that other states will copy the measure. The senators plan to meet with Mexican diplomats and migrants, Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon and state Attorney General Terry Goddard, said Domingo Clavel, technical secretary for the Senate's Human Rights Committee... Clavel said the senators also plan to meet with groups that campaigned against Proposition 200, as well

What are John & Ken thinking? - 03/06/05

L.A. political activist Hal Netkin wants to know. Why are KFI's John & Ken supporting Bob Hertzberg for mayor of Los Angeles? Isn't he on the board of MALDEF, the Ford Foundation-funded, pro-Mexico organization that has continuously supported illegal immigration? MALDEF helped block California's Prop. 187 and they tried to block Arizona's Prop. 200.

Does Walter Moore stand a chance? - 02/27/05

Despite an all-out attempt by the Los Angeles media to deny that he exists, does Republican candidate for mayor of L.A. Walter Moore stand a chance of getting into the run-off? See "Will Los Angeles Choose Moore... or Opt for More of the Same?" for the wishful thinking. If someone has independent indication that Walter Moore is about to stage an upset, please post it in the comments.

Hats off to the New York Immigration Coalition - 02/26/05

The New York DMV is trying to prevent illegal aliens [1] from getting New York driver's licenses. If you've been reading the New York Times or the New York Daily News or press releases from various organizations, you might have been confused into thinking that they're trying to prevent all immigrants from getting licenses, but that's not true.

"Hertzberg vs. Villaraigosa" - 02/21/05

In a Sunday editorial, the L.A. Times [1] says, "...the people of Los Angeles would be well served by a runoff election between Bob Hertzberg and Antonio Villaraigosa...", Yes, indeed.

"'Save Our License' may face state probe" - 02/16/05

Emphasis on the "may." From the DailyNews: The Secretary of State's Political Reform Division has ordered Save Our License, a group opposed to driver's licenses for illegal immigrants, to refile all its committee documents and submit all its campaign finance data. Meanwhile, a group representing Latino and church groups across the nation this week filed a formal complaint with the state Fair Political Practices Commission, saying Save Our License willfully violated campaign finance laws...

Hertzberg gets Riordan endorsement in race for L.A. mayor - 02/11/05

From this: Former Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan endorsed the mayoral campaign of Bob Hertzberg on Thursday, saying he favored the former state Assembly speaker's plan to break up the Los Angeles Unified School District. Riordan, who now serves as the state secretary of education, appeared on KFI-AM's "The John and Ken Show" and praised Hertzberg's plans for education and traffic, including a platform

MALDEF getting "moral support" from Mexico - 01/31/05

The earlier post "Mexico may ask international courts to block Proposition 200" discussed Mexico's latest plans to interfere in our laws. Mexico's Foreign Secretary said "We are seeking all the legal opportunities that exist, first using the legal capacities of the United States itself" as well as a couple other prime things. His statement prompted me to ask whether they're involved in MALDEF's various suits against Prop. 200, and the AZ Republic got out their teaspoon and did a little digging.

Mexico may ask international courts to block Proposition 200 - 01/26/05

Maybe it's time to start constructing a 100' high wall: Mexico may turn to international courts in efforts to block a new Arizona law limiting services to undocumented aliens [sic], Foreign Secretary Luis Ernesto Derbez said Wednesday. He said in an interview on W Radio that Mexico might take such a step after it has exhausted all possibilities under U.S.

Racist liberals? Isn't that an oxymoron? - 01/19/05

Since most "liberals" would jump to defend the people who made the following quotes, is there any reason not to call those "liberals" what they are: racists? MARIO OBLEDO - (1998 Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient and former head of Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund - MALDEF) "California is going to be a Mexican state, we are going to control all the institutions. If people don't like it they should leave."

MALDEF turns attention to most popular provisions of Prop. 200 - 01/19/05

Like an evil Energizer Bunny: PHOENIX ? Opponents of Arizona's new immigration law ? stymied in their initial court challenges ? are taking aim at the law's election mandates, claiming they'll virtually eliminate voter registration drives and place too many obstacles in front of minority voters... "It hurts minorities, particularly Hispanics and Native Americans that do have a language barrier," said Democratic Rep. Steve Gallardo... A separate objection filed by MALDEF said the polling-place identification requirement amounts to an illegal poll tax because low-income, minority and elderly...

Bush's Open-Borders nominees - 01/17/05

Michelle Malkin discusses recent nominees Gonzales and Johanns. I was considering writing something similar based on the comments I left on this thread (redstate.org/story/2005/1/15/94511/6703): From the Border Patrol union: White House Counsel Alberto Gonzales, President Bush's nominee for attorney general, got the backing of a group that promotes driver's licenses for illegal aliens, no immigr

Dude, they're just here to do the jobs Americans won't do, dude - 01/17/05

One of the top 100 most influential newspapers in Southern California, the Hermosa Wave, reports on the recent kerfluffel involving illegal alien day laborers in Redondo Beach. It continually uses the phrase "anti-immigrant" and "illegal" only appears twice. One instance of the latter is in a quote. Normally, I'd just ignore inconsequential reports in inconsequential newspapers, but it does have this absolutely hilarious bit: Thomas Saenz, one of the MALDEF lawyers arguing the case on behalf of the day laborers, said that in his experience at least some anti-immigrant sentiment is usually...

Gosh, what could the race hustlers be worried about? - 01/14/05

MALDEF - the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund - continues trying to block Arizona's Prop. 200. Apparently the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals - surprise! - has turned down MALDEF's request for a preliminary injunction against 200. At the same time, MALDEF appears to be attempting to complain to the DOJ about Prop. 200 violation the federal Voting Rights Act. Their reason?

"[AZ] solicitor general: Enforce 200 now" - 12/15/04

I can't comment on all the machinations involved here and what they mean, but: Attorneys for the state want a federal judge to let Arizona begin enforcing the provisions of Proposition 200 next week. In legal papers filed Monday, Mary O'Grady, the state's solicitor general, said nothing in the voter-approved initiative conflicts with federal law. She told U.S.
