Maine GOP adopts Tea Party platform, and it's semi-sane - 05/10/10

The Maine GOP has adopted a very tea parties-friendly platform; you can get a PDF with it here. I've only seen the tea partiers do two smart things in all the months I've been covering them; this is - in some ways - the third smart thing. In other ways, it's more of the same libertarian lunacy with a fillip of Randroid extreme insanity. First, some of the insanity/loony/libertarian: Espouse and follow the principle: It is immoral to steal the property rightfully earned by one person, and give it to another who has no claim or right to its benefits... ...Promote energy independence...

Sen. Susan Collins was back in Maine earlier today (link) [She] doesn't consider the stimulus plan to be a perfect one, but she felt it was much more important to find a compromise and get money out to people quickly. She also acknowledged that her vote has not made her popular within her own party, but she said, that doesn't bother her. "My obligation is to the people of Maine," Sen. Collins said. "And they didn't send me to Washington to sit on the sidelines. They want me to try to solve problems, and they want me to work in a bipartisan way." Collins said the stimulus plan will not work...
